i'm using unlocked (duh!) iphone firmware 1.1.1

whenever i saved a number in iphone with a international prefix, the name doesn;t show up when the person calls.
eg.

Ah Seng - 012-xxxxxxx

if i save it as +6012-xxxxxxx, iphone won't recognise Ah Seng when he calls me.
anyone got the same prob?

bloody iphone is starting to piss me off....so many design flaws.

update:
found a solution @ http://iphone.fiveforty.net/wiki/index.php/AppSupport
thanks pspfan.

It is not a design flaw, you are using it based on an iPhone made for the American market , so the numerical designation is based on their's as well. Since you made the jump to use this here, this should be accepted as part of the things you either have to bear, or you mod the respective .plist. Next time, look into the product and see what are the things you have to accept before spouting your complaints and whinings. Things like this can simply be rectified or avoided, rather than complaining here.

Most of us iPhone users here accepted the fact that the iPhone is made for the American market, hence those preferences you see on the current iPhone. We accepted the fact that we need to modify it to make it work as per our norms, and this is most important. The iPhone works right out of the box for the American market, and to make it work to our market , certain modifications have to be done. You wouldn't be as whiny as this if you were he one doing the unlocking, or if you explicitly know what you are getting into when you are getting an iPhone.

So please, instead of spouting "bloody iPhone design flaws" and whatnots, think of WHO this iPhone is designed for before you make such ignorant comments.

Wait for the local launch if you want it to work out if the box, but don't come back here asking WHEN the local launch is because nobody can answer that for you, only Apple knows. The probability and logical deduction of when and IF Apple is going to launch have been discussed ad nauseum already.

My point exactly, but the inquisitive ones here like to base their purchases on something as uncertain as "hope".

I can bet you a bushel of apples that the question on when Apple going to release the iPhone locally will pop up within this month.

aiyoh, y u so protective over the iphone? i just want to ask a question, u know then tell me, don't know then keep quiet lah. give me one big lecture like my mother. and yes, i do believe its a design flaw because the US guy is going to the have the same prob once he starts roaming in malaysia. and btw i did unlock the phone myself.

anyway, not here to start a fight. got the contacts showing right and that's what really matters. thanks again bro pspfan.

Go to modmyifone, search the forum, there is a guide on how to modify the plist. Basically you need the iphone to recognize at least 9 digits of our local phone number format.

You buy the phone, you have the rights to whine, regardless is valid or not.

You came into the thread with the intention to entice a debate yourself, you could have word it nicely instead of whining. A simple "how do you get the contacts to show right" would be just fine here, instead of your first post here.

If you want to ask a question, just ask one, instead of whining about it. Like my little brother only crying for milk.

If you want to whine about it, whine about the right reasons. The next person we're gonna see is someone who whined why Apple didnt include 3G and multiple SMS sending in the iPhone. Trust me, we've got that already, and we all know WHY Apple didnt do that.

I got into a problem, i Googled the solution. I search for the answer at the appropriate places. Whining about it wont make the answers come to me. rolleyes.gif

By the way, the American here, wont be here a long time, so it is a mere temporary annoyance. The moment he gets back to American soil, the "annoyance" goes away. Unlike those who bought it to be used PERMANENTLY outside of the States. Like you.

wah u got quite a bit of aggression in you huh? do u go round telling everyone how to get on with their life or is it just for me?

is it going to kill u to admit its a design flaw? if the american experiences some annoyance in malaysia, means apple shld improve the phone.

His annoyance is TEMPORARY, yours is PERMANENT, since you are using it outside of its intended territory.

Apple iPhone has lots of design flaws, this is not one of them. If you complained about no multiple SMS sending, i'll be waving that complaint banner with you, my friend.

Dont do that. He is entitled to his own opinion. It is just that if you complain about valid reasons to complain to, i am with you. For something as trivial as this, it should be solved either by looking at the right place, or asking it here WITHOUT the extra whine.

its not rocket science to solve that prob. no need to make it sound so serious like "PERMANENT annoyance". capital letters somemore. chill out dude. if u have the same "permanent annoyance" that's making you so angry, y don't u follow the link i added on my first post.

peace out.

hey, no disrespect intended. if any shown, i apologise in advance. but don't u think its a bit extreme to use examples like "little bro begging for milk".

i'm really grateful someone came up and pointed me to the right direction. otherwise i might have spent alot more time trying to google for answers.

anyway the patch worked like a miracle, everything including overseas calls are showing up perfect.

If you know that you dont have to be a rocket scientist to solve this, why did you add, and i quote:-

QUOTE

Just to make your post extra hot and spicy, is it? Or are you soliciting a different kind of response than just another "call for help"?

It would more than fine if you worded it as a "call for help", but that quoted statement of yours are inviting others to question why you post it as so.

So, if it is not rocket science, the solution should be easy no? Instead of wasting your energy posting that, couldnt it be spent on finding the solution, AND adding your discovery here into the iPhone thread, so others could benefit from it? You dont have to add the extra cheese, crackers and WHINE, just to make your post look extra good.

Added on November 4, 2007, 4:00 pmIm sorry too if my posts seems a bit direct, but we have been getting so many posts that asks questions that already had been answered, it is getting on the nerves of people here. You can simply do a Search in this section of the forum, for those answers, or links provided in the iPhone thread will lead you to it. In fact, your question too, about the contacts not appearing correctly, too have been addressed before in iPhone thread V.1, a simple search would have revealed it. Many here would either have ignored the question if it had been asked before, or simply point to the right direction with a single link, like what pspfan did. But my gripe with you is your post i quoted before.

And i too have my rights to post my opinions about your supposed displeasures. Touche!

Like you said yourself, it would be more productive to find a solution and share THAT solution, rather than sharing your WHINES. Everybody can benefit from a solution, the ears and eyes bleed from having to listen or read a whine.

My language? Was it even THAT colorful in the first place? I didnt remember using the word "bloody" in the first place, but i distinctly remember YOU using it in yours, first post even.
