I recently ordered my ROG Ally and am eagerly awaiting its delivery. In the meantime, I thought it would be beneficial to establish a dedicated club here, as I haven't come across any existing discussions on the ROG Ally.

QUOTE(kioko126 @ Oct 7 2024, 12:50 AM) Hey, planning to get one soon. How yours going thus far? It's running just fine for my needs. I bought the 2023 version, not the 2024 Ally X. Initially, I faced a few issues, but everything is smooth now. Here are the modifications I've made: 1. Installed a 2280 SSD adapter. 2. Upgraded the original 512GB DRAM-less SSD to a 2TB KC3000 NVMe SSD. 3. Replaced the original backplate with a JSAUX Transparent Back Plate (to fit the upgraded SSD without modifying the original backplate). 4. Performed a clean installation of Windows instead of using ASUS Cloud Recovery. 5. Installed the 2024 Ally X drivers on my 2023 Ally. None of these modifications void the warranty, and after doing step 4 and 5, everything is working perfectly. Which model are you considering—the 2023 Ally or the 2024 Ally X? Also, remember to register your Ally with your ASUS account after receiving it. This will extend the warranty by an additional year, giving you a total of 3 years instead of the original 2. Was actually considering the Ally X with all the latest upgrades but in fact I just placed an order during 10/10 sales. Here are the modifications I've made: 1. Installed a 2280 SSD adapter. 2. I assume for X version step 1 to 3 is not necessary but step 4 seems to be a good idea. Is it the normal window reformatting? |

Steps 1 and 3 aren’t needed for Ally X.It’s pretty much like reformatting, but I added an extra step by doing a secure erase on the SSD with Parted Magic. After that, I set up a USB installer for Windows 11 on my laptop to proceed with the installation. This post has been edited by sHawTY: Oct 12 2024, 07:49 PM |

QUOTE(kioko126 @ Oct 29 2024, 12:01 AM) Just collected all the voucher available that day and apply it during check out. My final price is at around RM3.4k, your price also considered not too bad then. Hey bro, how come your last time delivery period can be so long eh ? Mine supposed to be pack for delivery by 30/10, left few more days shall see if there is any update later. Placed 10.10 but 20 days time frame. Mine placed on 10.11 but default 18.11 which only 8 days. I wish seller can adjust the time frame again to a bit longer. At least can get the console within time frame better than auto cancel by Lazada. |

The stand behind not my preference after using Jsaux mod case (except top part alignment issue) Must say Ally X has its strong point but at the same time also having some minor issue too. The Command Centre still need to improve as sometime it just stuck there when i'm summon it out and won't go away XD I noticed that the fan noise is quite noticeable even under Silent 13w and idling on table with both running at 4800 (L) , 4600 ® RPM. So far still no sound from the RM200 steam wallet redemption This post has been edited by TongCN: Nov 28 2024, 09:36 AM |

Seems like Ally X quite picky on 100w charger ?
Just bought a Baseus Desktop charger <Link> and Ally X is behaving weird. If battery care mode on with 80% above, Ally X can bypass charging and activate 30w turbo mode but the charge wattage like showing 1w only. If battery care mode off with less than 100%, Ally X will connect and disconnect charging and repeat until i unplug the USB-C. * Tested with differ 100w cable - Ugreen & Baseus resulting same issue I have another 100w Ugreen dekstop charger but doesn't have this issue, hmm.. Original 65w charger also no issue (obviously |

QUOTE(TongCN @ Dec 17 2024, 01:25 PM) SNIP I’m also using the 100W UGreen charger with my JSAUX docking station. I found that a 65W charger isn’t sufficient when charging the Ally while using the docking station, as some of the power is drawn by the docking station itself, leaving the Ally unable to charge. That’s why I opted for a 100W charger.Regarding your BASEUS 100W charger, it’s likely not providing sufficient voltage or amperage, which could be causing the issue you're experiencing. Could you share the link to the specific BASEUS charger you're using? Here’s the link to mine: https://my.shp.ee/x92TmKG This post has been edited by sHawTY: Dec 17 2024, 05:36 PM |

I just updated my ALLY to Windows 11 24H2.
I haven’t tested it with games yet, but I noticed something: the idle RAM usage seems slightly higher compared to 23H2. On 23H2, it typically stayed around 3.5GB, but after the update to 24H2, it’s now sitting at roughly 4GB. What’s interesting is that my ALLY is really barebones—I’ve removed a lot of the bloatware that comes with Windows 11, and I don’t even have Microsoft Office installed. Hopefully, the RAM usage stabilizes and drops back to 3.5GB after a few days. |

I also went ahead and removed some of the pre-installed Microsoft bloatware to keep things lean: Note: You may need to use elevated PowerShell commands to remove some of these apps. 1. QUOTE(TongCN @ Dec 17 2024, 01:25 PM) Seems like Ally X quite picky on 100w charger ? Just bought a Baseus Desktop charger <Link> and Ally X is behaving weird. If battery care mode on with 80% above, Ally X can bypass charging and activate 30w turbo mode but the charge wattage like showing 1w only. If battery care mode off with less than 100%, Ally X will connect and disconnect charging and repeat until i unplug the USB-C. * Tested with differ 100w cable - Ugreen & Baseus resulting same issue I have another 100w Ugreen dekstop charger but doesn't have this issue, hmm.. Original 65w charger also no issue (obviously QUOTE(sHawTY @ Dec 17 2024, 05:25 PM) I’m also using the 100W UGreen charger with my JSAUX docking station. I found that a 65W charger isn’t sufficient when charging the Ally while using the docking station, as some of the power is drawn by the docking station itself, leaving the Ally unable to charge. That’s why I opted for a 100W charger. After not using that charger to test again for since 17th December 2024, today plug in and test and magically it works :\Regarding your BASEUS 100W charger, it’s likely not providing sufficient voltage or amperage, which could be causing the issue you're experiencing. Could you share the link to the specific BASEUS charger you're using? Here’s the link to mine: https://my.shp.ee/x92TmKG Dunno what magic or any update that trigger Ally X to receive the charging. As far as i know middle only has the AMD driver and the AI sound driver thing update. The rest only daily Windows defender definition. sHawTY liked this post

The Legion GO S sounds impressive, especially with the Z2 Extreme chip, 32GB RAM, and dual fans. I always prefer handhelds with a dual-fan setup over a single fan—cooling is such an important factor.
As for the ASUS ROG Ally 2, an AMOLED screen and 32GB RAM would be amazing! Hopefully, ASUS delivers. Zotac Gaming Zone's handheld is definitely unique with features like the built-in camera and touchpad, but the single-fan setup is a letdown. Better cooling would’ve made it even more appealing. |

My ALLY shows an "insufficient power" message (though it still charges) when connected to the JSAUX docking station with the UGreen 100W charger. However, when I plug the UGreen 100W charger directly into the ALLY, the message disappears. Weird, right? By the way, how’s everyone enjoying their ALLY X? What games are you currently playing? I’m in the middle of The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria—having a blast so far! Although I do wish I had a bigger screen to play on. Here’s hoping the ALLY 2 will have a bigger screen (AMOLED would be a plus!) while keeping the 80Wh battery from the ALLY X. I’m already saving up! kioko126 liked this post

QUOTE(sHawTY @ Jan 17 2025, 09:32 AM) My first impression after half a day with ally x.Claw is pretty much a 1st gen product. Msi Centre M is barebones and the interface is not 'gamerlike' eventhough its a gaming device. Claw is squeky on the bottom half of the device if you grip it thightly whereas ally x feels sturdy. Claw is larger and feels a bit heavier compare to ally x eventhough not that much weight differences because of ally x compact size. In terms of FPS i only test one games that is wuthering waves. Yes that game took over my life. Haha. WUWA is not optimise for AMD because you can only toggle FSR on and off. Whereas on intel you can toggle settings for XeSS intel version of DLSS ai upscalling. The performance is on par between intel and amd but the TDP for claw is almost 40W most of the time and on the ally x is generally lower. I can barely play 1 hour on the claw. On ally x more than 2 hours is not a problem. sHawTY liked this post

The new AFMF 2 doesn't impress me at all btw cause the ghosting issue when pan left and right as well as Frame Rate very not consistent since it still depends on actual FPS must be 45fps above so now just stick to FSR 2.0 (else FSR 3.0 if available) sHawTY liked this post

I like take off the case to clean it and jsaux case is bit hard to take of at the trigger part. You can try lossless scalling on steam just rm19.90. If dont like it can get refund. They update the frame gen to version 3.0 couple weeks ago. Use rivatuner to lock the frame rate so u dont get frame spike that can cause lag. |

So far still ok on the current setting of my games with manual TDP But as a user coming from Steam Deck (i still own it), sometime really think Ally X consumption really quite high even with similar setting. My tales of graces F remastered in steam deck 720p can consume only 7~9w overall usage but Ally X with similar setting and 9w TDP but the consumption is 13~15w. |

More CPU & GPU cores & faster ram compared to steamdeck. For ex. My msi claw also use more power to run games compare to ally x at the same settings. I play hoyoverse and other gacha games so steamdeck is no go for me. The only OEM can do is to switch to more power efficient chipset like msi did with claw 8 that use lunar lake. Just ordered the UGreen 200W GaN charger: https://s.lazada.com.my/s.KhzQI
After vouchers and coins, I got it for just RM145.76! Can’t wait for it to arrive — planning to put it through its paces by charging my ALLY and laptop simultaneously. Since both the ALLY and my laptop only draw 65W each, I should still have plenty of headroom to charge my iPhone and iPad at the same time too. This will also be the highest wattage charger I own so far. What about you guys? What charger are you using with your ALLY/ALLY X? ![]() This post has been edited by sHawTY: Apr 29 2025, 09:49 AM |

In theory, it should’ve been the perfect one-charger solution—but since it doesn’t support 65W charging on a single port, I’m back to carrying two: the UGreen 100W for my ROG Ally, iPhone, and iPad, and the original 65W Lenovo charger for my work laptop. So while it helps a little, the dream of traveling with just one charger is still out of reach. And yeah… I just can’t bring myself to trust those cheap brands like ROCOREN or LDNIO. |

My combination right now still 100W ugreen charger + 65w Baseus Powerbank 20k mAh.And yeah… I just can’t bring myself to trust those cheap brands like ROCOREN or LDNIO. Then one Momax 100w travel adapter : Momax Link The output can out 65w single from C1 Dunno why the pricing now so expensive, i bought mine in year 2023 at RM179 only after discount. |

Not sure what I did, but I messed up my Windows 11 taskbar. Now it’s way bigger than usual and nothing I’ve tried seems to fix it.
Guess I’ll just wait for Windows 11 25H2 to be released to the public before doing another clean install. Damn it. |

i'm torn between Rog Xbox Ally X and PS5 pro, i wanna play AAA titles like expedition 33, forbidden, FF XVI, FF VI remake, DOOM and Phantom Blade Zero (next year).
one i'm eye-ing on Rog because of high performance handheld device than i can only game at home. I would like to know Rog can last how many years before next upgrade? but 1 thing i know PS5 pro can last me another 5 - 6 years without upgrade. i'm not keen to buy a PC anymore due to upgrades that i need to make every 1 - 2 years. |

Although the pre-order is available, you can only pre-order the vanilla version of Xbox Ally, not the Xbox Ally X. I'm so disappointed.

QUOTE(chtan @ Oct 5 2025, 06:39 PM) I think they have just corrected the ordering page. I was able to pre-order my ROG Xbox Ally X with the bundle set together now. Why does it say 1TB + 1TB?The XBOX ALLY X only comes with a single 2280 M.2 NVMe slot, no? |

CPU : AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme GPU, TSMC 4nm ✔️
24GB LPDDR5X on board ✔️ I remember Doom Eternal need more than 16GB of system ram, my older AMD lappy could not even run the game even on 640x480, which is ridiculous. Hopefully the storage can be swapped, if 1TB soldered = GG, have to bring portable SSD lol |

Yes, i don't think the 680M cant run the games, the laptop gaming capability is limited by the system ram, it's soldered 16GB, used it for almost 2 years and sold it off, 16GB too restrictive to do anything.Just received my pre-ordered gift but the sling bag is still missing and will be ship out later. ![]() I might get the old version or wait for discount lol, not in hurry, another question is does it support charge limit? Lenovo support 80% charge limit, this one is very important if wish to prolong the battery life. |

hi everyone, i have been using steam os on my rog ally since day 1 without any issue.
so yesterday i decided to revert back to windows in order to use game pass. i did the cloud recovery, updated everything through the armory crate and everything went well. but once i started playing game, the volume & power buttons stopped working. i have to shut down completely and switch it back on for the volume & power buttons to start working again. and it will again stopped working after i started playing game. anyone faced this problem before? any ideas how to solve it. i think it is software related since it work if i shut down my ally and switch on again. |

I'm on Singapore most of the time, GPD does not have official reseller yet,https://gpdstore.net/product/gpd-win-5/ For ultra-portable I will still choose legion and Ally. Off topic a bit, I've been using my R7-5700U for many years, most of the time the performance was unsatisfactory due to slow CPU, games like ZZZ i can't even runs smoothly at 720p lol that's what i though, until i added one 140mm fan at the bottom of the unit, the slowness is gone, it pretty much running thermally throttled most of the time... I had R7-6800HS lappy as well, also badly thermal throttled. I don't know how hot ROG ally or Legion will run, but definitely will add cooling unit on it. |

I went to store few days ago checking out legion, I think i will get legion go, it might be bulky but the large vent with good airflow means it wont get throttled easily. Xbox Ally X i have not seen it physically yet. |

I don’t think so, as the ROG Ally is a PC, not a console. However, please note that if you purchase the unit from China, the warranty will not be valid with ASUS Malaysia, as they typically do not accept RMA requests for overseas units—even if you are willing to cover the costs. That said, if you frequently travel to China, this may be less of a concern for you. This post has been edited by sHawTY: Yesterday, 11:19 AM |
