I recently ordered my ROG Ally and am eagerly awaiting its delivery. In the meantime, I thought it would be beneficial to establish a dedicated club here, as I haven't come across any existing discussions on the ROG Ally.

It's running just fine for my needs. I bought the 2023 version, not the 2024 Ally X. Initially, I faced a few issues, but everything is smooth now.

Here are the modifications I've made:
1. Installed a 2280 SSD adapter.
2. Upgraded the original 512GB DRAM-less SSD to a 2TB KC3000 NVMe SSD.
3. Replaced the original backplate with a JSAUX Transparent Back Plate (to fit the upgraded SSD without modifying the original backplate).
4. Performed a clean installation of Windows instead of using ASUS Cloud Recovery.
5. Installed the 2024 Ally X drivers on my 2023 Ally.

None of these modifications void the warranty, and after doing step 4 and 5, everything is working perfectly.

Which model are you considering—the 2023 Ally or the 2024 Ally X?

Also, remember to register your Ally with your ASUS account after receiving it. This will extend the warranty by an additional year, giving you a total of 3 years instead of the original 2.

Was actually considering the Ally X with all the latest upgrades but in fact I just placed an order during 10/10 sales.

I assume for X version step 1 to 3 is not necessary but step 4 seems to be a good idea. Is it the normal window reformatting?

Steps 1 and 3 aren’t needed for Ally X.

It’s pretty much like reformatting, but I added an extra step by doing a secure erase on the SSD with Parted Magic. After that, I set up a USB installer for Windows 11 on my laptop to proceed with the installation.

1. MyASUS
2. Armory Crate SE

Additionally, it’s recommended to have a Microsoft account (e.g., hotmail.com, outlook.com, or live.com) ready.
While a local account can still be used, signing in with a Microsoft account is the optimal choice, as it allows you to lock the device to your account for enhanced security and accessibility.

Yes, just checked with seller few days ago. Still haven't received the stock yet from their supplier, current status still the same. However, the system will automatically cancel the order if no progress after 4th Nov.

If you're not in a hurry, you might consider canceling your current order and wait for the ROG Ally 2, which is expected to launch following the release of the Ryzen Z2 Extreme, projected for Q1 2025

My order already been automatically cancelled by the system itself. Well, seems like I'm not going to get my Ally anytime soon.

I see that some store has restock d in shopee such as Asus ROG Mall but the price still quite pain at RM4,399 (RRP RM4,299) prior voucher.

The stand behind not my preference after using Jsaux mod case (except top part alignment issue)

Must say Ally X has its strong point but at the same time also having some minor issue too.

The Command Centre still need to improve as sometime it just stuck there when i'm summon it out and won't go away XD

I noticed that the fan noise is quite noticeable even under Silent 13w and idling on table with both running at 4800 (L) , 4600 ® RPM.

Ally so far so good and been playing gamepass a lot (i have XGPU sub).

So far Ally X is superior than my OG Steam Deck LCD model but certain game i still prefer to play on steam deck cause that 40fps and low TDP.

I always try to set those games playable 60fps at total 18~22w consumption that can last me 4 hours gameplay / charge.

Same here got rejected, I presume most probably due to different region unit.

Seems like Ally X quite picky on 100w charger ?

Just bought a Baseus Desktop charger <Link> and Ally X is behaving weird.

If battery care mode on with 80% above, Ally X can bypass charging and activate 30w turbo mode but the charge wattage like showing 1w only.

If battery care mode off with less than 100%, Ally X will connect and disconnect charging and repeat until i unplug the USB-C.

* Tested with differ 100w cable - Ugreen & Baseus resulting same issue


I have another 100w Ugreen dekstop charger but doesn't have this issue, hmm..
Original 65w charger also no issue (obviously )

I’m also using the 100W UGreen charger with my JSAUX docking station. I found that a 65W charger isn’t sufficient when charging the Ally while using the docking station, as some of the power is drawn by the docking station itself, leaving the Ally unable to charge. That’s why I opted for a 100W charger.

Regarding your BASEUS 100W charger, it’s likely not providing sufficient voltage or amperage, which could be causing the issue you're experiencing. Could you share the link to the specific BASEUS charger you're using?

It has both:

1) 20a5v = 100w
2) 20a3.25v = 65w

I not sure what is the issue though but when i check reddit, seems like Ally X is quite picky on 100w charger and Asus also make some changes in Bios to somehow "reject" certain charger

I just updated my ALLY to Windows 11 24H2.

I haven’t tested it with games yet, but I noticed something: the idle RAM usage seems slightly higher compared to 23H2.

On 23H2, it typically stayed around 3.5GB, but after the update to 24H2, it’s now sitting at roughly 4GB.

What’s interesting is that my ALLY is really barebones—I’ve removed a lot of the bloatware that comes with Windows 11, and I don’t even have Microsoft Office installed.

Hopefully, the RAM usage stabilizes and drops back to 3.5GB after a few days.

Interesting, mine is with all stock running the latest Win11, the usage now is at 5.8GB (after freeing up memory using the MyAsus program could get 4.7GB).

A clean install works wonders—no unnecessary ASUS bloatware except for MyASUS and Armoury Crate SE.

So far mine also running vanilla Asus Windows 11 out of the box which initial setup and windows update already give me 24H2.

Not sure about the idle memory of mine, maybe will check it once i get home.

Yesterday released the new AMD driver that support AFMF2 but no matter how i check and restart, it just won't appear in both MyAsus app or Armoury Crate app.

I end up download from the Official Site and manually install.

You guys punya when device idling, how does the fan noise or fan blowing sound like?
