viewsonic and ibm have introed 3840x2400 22 incher in year 2000 or so...
it is for professional medical, engineering, 3d modeling, and so on... so it is a rehash of the same tech.. probably same panel as well.. with maybe with slighly improvement.. would need dual dual-link dvi for 40Hz refresh rate and above for the bandwidth and to stitch/sync (high end Quadro and FireGL card only) ... Maybe HDMI 1.3 will provide the needed bandwidth... but no one has implimented a transmiter and receiver yet capable of it yet. Probably display port coming in 2008 will be able to do so. b.t.w with the old 22 monitors... the panels have a slow refresh rate, I think 40ms..... and because of the high dpi it is prone to dead pixels.. the old monitors could also run full res. with one single link dvi if you drop the refresh rate to 12Hz or so.. or run at 1920x1200 res @60Hz. the cost for the old ones just about rm 6k to 10k... 3840x2400 is too huge for a 22" LCD.
1680x1050 should be just nice for a 22". |

With current cards, and 2d apps at full res. at above 40Hz need dual dual-link dvi outputs with framelock and a genlock (high Quadro class cards)... 3840x2400@24Hz ..any cards with one DL-dvi output .. 3840x2400@12Hz.. any graphic card with sl-dvi output.. .. graphic must have at least 128MB RAM |

Not a practical idea. Everything will be so small and if you want to play games with acceptable frame rates on it's native resolution, you'd probably need a tri-SLI 8800 series cards!!!
My friend had a notebook with 15 inch screen with a native resolution of 1600x1200. Haiyooooo..... really tiny tiny text and icons..... |

for non texts intensive apps and not for games ... too slow refresh rates.. as well as split implimentation of dual input prevents most 3d games..
there is quite a large yahoo user group of the IBM T-221 ... the first 22incher at 3840x2400. |

What do they use this LCD for, BTW? the monitor (ibm t-221) have been out for 7 to 8 years.. apps as stated in my post #5seen and touched one ... closed to owing one... the high res.. not that bad... just have to sit closer... more info on a narrower viewing angle... no need to pan your head from side to side... Another related link of this 22" monitor Daily Tech
QUOTE Unfortunately, the other specifications for the display aren't nearly as interesting as the resolution. The brightness is only 235 cd/m2; most high-end displays feature brightness in excess of 300 nits. The contrast ratio is 300:1 and the display can produce 16.7 million colors. Viewing angles are simply abysmal at 120 degrees horizontal and 100 degrees vertical. How come the contrast ratio was only 300:1 |

Seeing their locked hardware requires "specialized" price hiked graphic cards available only through their chains. what does this thread have to do with spaces and stacks? (or multiple desktops or whatever you wanna call it?)Leopard's spaces... stacks.... long time existed in Linux OS Added on November 3, 2007, 4:13 pm Another thing,... enabling SLI outputs through one connector only... in no way does a single vga/DL-DVI connector carries enough bandwidth for 3840x2400@40Hz(or higher, at 48Hz/60Hz)... What im saying is, a screen with high pixel densities is really good for viewing pictures, but everything else like text becomes too small. Resolution independance lets you enlarge elements of the user interface without compromising quality. In other words, fonts and menus can be enlarged and be displayed say at 72ppi on a 200ppi monitor. As far as i know, leopard has it built into some programs already, but it has yet to be implemented system wide. Im not promoting OSX or anything. Heck, im using an IBM, but you gotta realize that this is probably the way of the future. I dream working on a 1000:1 200ppi monitor for photo postprocessing... Perhaps in future, ultra high dpi screens would be the norm... but before that could be so, OSes must be able to upscale the user interface first. Hence the importance of resolution independance. |

most games can go... 3840x2400... but at very low frame rates... the problem lies mostlly is bandwidth through multiple vga/dvi ports.... display port coming early next year solves this with a single port
