I came from nothing (Never ride motorcycle)... My experience was, I bought a 250cc(Honda CB250R)...
Then after a while, upgraded to bigger 660cc (Triumph Trident 660).
If you have the budget to play around, my suggestion is to go with 250cc first (a cheap second-hand bike).
During this time, you'll practice managing the clutch, balancing, cornering, maintaining the bike, and learning to handle it.
Why a cheap 250cc? because the expectation will be, you'll surely drop the bike multiple times. Hence, won't hurt your pocket and heart much. Also, from the savings, I suggest you spend more on your gear during this period (such as a full-face helmet, riding jacket, riding boots, gloves, etc...)
Once confident with the handling, you'll get the feeling of riding the 250 bike like riding a kapcai, easy to control, confident to corner. This is the sign that you are ready for a bigger CC. (My case, I up to 660cc).
Anyway, congrats and good luck with your new bike. :-)
Just sharing from my 2cents as beginner rider. :-)
