This applies also to porting in from one telco (postpaid) to another telco (prepaid).

Because they’re pushing their user base to be on postpaid. That time when I want to change from Hotlink Postpaid to prepaid, the retention team called me and offer this and that if I were to remain on postpaid. But when want to convert from prepaid to postpaid, they will quickly convert it for you.

You on which telco? My experience switching from postpaid to prepaid, CelcomDigi was rather smooth. Apply online, then they will send new sim card to you and port out process is very quick.

I think postpaid ARPU is higher than prepaid. Money talks.

Well, who said it is difficult to port from postpaid of another telco to prepaid (different telco)? It can be done at centre or online. Except sometimes you meet those deeler who are chasing after commission that they try so hard to sign you up for postpaid.
Have to be firm and know your rights.

Postpaid to postpaid also difficult.

Previously I moved from enterprise postpaid to consumer postpaid need to wait 3 months from Maxis. After 3 months then only move to consumer postpaid but the rates too expensive and not economically viable.

So, I decided to MNP out to U Mobile (cheaper and mostly KV all the time). That also need to wait 3 months because just moved to consumer postpaid. When finally time to MNP out, Maxis required all SIM cards under the family to reply YES. At the same time, they also sent out promo SMS which looked exactly like the porting out SMS. If replied YES, the MNP will fail and contract extended to 1 year. Fucking sneaky.

I gathered all 5 lines in 5 phones on the table and replied YES to porting out. Within 5 mins, no more Maxis and hello to U Mobile. After 20+ years with Maxis, good riddance to bad rubbish!

That may be the case but I think telcos shouldn't put up artificial barriers to prevent customers from doing so

As a consumer, I agree.

Despite the hurdles, it’s not impossible to do.

Me (hotlink sabah rm18 60gb)
Mom, wife, son (digi kuning rm25 40gb)

Like I said earlier, telcos are putting up artificial barriers to make it difficult to convert from postpaid to prepaid

Our consumer rights are protected.

We can always seek redress via MCMC CRP Portal if we face issues with conversion

Is this against the law? If yes, must ask govt why they're not taking action.

At present, there is no law governing the conversion of postpaid plans to prepaid but if the customer feels he is being unfairly treated in doing so by the telcos, he can always seek redress via MCMC

That's what I mean by making things difficult. Not that we CANNOT convert tongue.gif
