Hi all,

I'm looking into getting the reolink video doorbell. Initially i thought of just getting the poe version but the wiring would be much of an hassle. Decided to go with wifi (not ideal, but sweat.gif ). The specs on the doorbell says 12-24VAC 50/60Hz or DC 24V. Any idea how I can achieve the 12-24VAC 50/60Hz power supply from existing wiring? 24V DC is doable but i feel inside of the wall will be messy.

Anyone has installed the same doorbell?

Wifi version will have messy wiring, it's just a matter of how messy you find it acceptable. You will need a 24V / 12V AC relay / transformer, or use a 24V DC adapter, perhaps you can use the cavity in your mailbox to do the wiring if you're in a landed dwelling. For condos perhaps you can place an enclosed shelf underneath or on top of the doorbell to hide the wiring, doubling as shelving. Just be careful to not using wooden shelving to prevent fires.

This is why I went with the POE version, just a single wire and stable connection.

Also a suggestion, here's a rain cover that can be 3D printed. Must have in our thunderstorms (if you're in a landed dwelling)

Really would like to go the poe route. called the technician and looking to get an estimate on how much would it cost.

For stepping down the voltage, do you think something like this would be okay? this steps it down to 24V DC.
LED Driver 1
LED Driver 2

Else, I would likely need to get this Doorbell chime with transformer and use it to power the doorbell.

Thanks for the 3D printing link. Can I know if you printed your own or used a service to print it?

Thank you.

I'm not familiar with wiring doorbell to AC sadly, but based on the spec the LED driver does 24V 0.5A required by the Reolink unit so on paper it should be fine.

The doorbell chime with transformer is probably the safest as it is what's commonly used in most households for decades.

I had my friend 3D printed the cover for me, as he has a 3D printer. I only sent him the files. Note that the 3D cover has two versions, you'll need a different version if you plan to use the angled base, so choose carefully.

not sure if i fully agree. for example, my place has a regular door bell already setup. So i can simply replace that for this reolink doorbell, to get power easily, then use wifi to get access to it without fuss. Whereas had i gone poe, i need a poe+ switch (which i do), but then have to plan the cabling to route it to my network server rack, which is way more work than just simply using the transformer install method where for me the wiring is all done already.

if you plan to use ethernet wire, may as well go poe.

but if not, then the transformer is the way to go. this is what i opted for, the wifi model (black).

there is a new third option, where power wiring is not possible, so it uses a battery instead.

reolink doorbell is good but there a few gotchas to be mindful of

1. continuous recording doesn't work if you setup as wired
2. continuous recording only works for sd card, nvr, or hub. no luck with ftp.
3. if you use ftp, you cannot playback using the mobile app. so what's ftp good for then? basicaly just backing up only. If you want to playback videos, you need to use sd card, nvr or hub for that.
4. the white and black versions are diffferent. white has 3:4 and black is 4:3 The white does parcel detection, the black doesn't.
5. the hub station PRO is the one that can install hard drive. The older NON PRO hub, cannot. shopee said they'll have stock in 3-4 weeks for the pro sweat.gif

people said it's been a while, so expect a new doorbell. but ces 2025 arrived, but did not see any new doorbell cam, so....

one thing i wish reolink doorbell had, was the dual cam which Eufy E340 has. Because this is how it should have been, for better package detection. Some would also argue that reolink is getting old because they don't have facial recognition and those fancy software features yet.
