The new Mini EV is built in China by GWM anyway. In essence, Chinese car companies can conquer the British market by just buying over old British car brands and reviving them. MG is a good example. After all, British car buyers have zero pride. They have nothing left to hold onto except the brand names, which is why they continue buying JLR which is owned by Charlie Chapatti or Lotus that is run by Kung Pow Lee, all whilst deluding themselves into thinking they’re still “buying British”. Rest of EU hard to say, but UK no problem because Brits are shallow as sh#t.

I think by far the reason for GWM Ora models' poor sales achievement are two

1. Retro Designs just makes them too niche. There is a reason why VW Beetle were discontinued and never made it mainstream in its second life. Ditto for Mini, that just decidedly becomes niche.

A niche design in a mass markets can have hard time taking off. The novelty just wore out very fast. Beetle before ending it's life was very niche, MINI these days are still niche

Fiat 500 also have limited popularity.

Retro designs works better with pricier and luxury market

Remember 4th gen Hyundai Sonata that has peanut-shaped headlights bear more than a passing resemblance to those on the 2001 Mercedes-Benz C-class.? It was stealing sales from many just by its look but it also have short-lived popularity

XIAOMI has followed this footstep with their first EV and has becomes an instant hit.

To go main stream, you have to have mainstream car designs that would be a lot more timeless, think Corolla, think Golf, they are sedated and boring but they sell and have long model shelves lives

By and large BYD and MG has followed these footsteps. And there is no shame in it as even Peugeot 308 has copied Golf while remaing some of its signatures like lion claws and fangs. MG4 is golf like in many aspects while have its signatures. BYD has its sea creature theme but their look are still very mainstream.

2. EV are new tech, and buyers wants a more contemporary and more importantly utilitarian products.

Tesla's frunk is a good example, it sets a gold standard because of it, where many has started to expect EV with it.

EV must breaks value chains, it is a money losing games with loss leaders strategy must be applied before you can make money , that is why it has better be having longer shelf lives

3. GWM has better luck with their SUVs and pickups they should invest in those products becaise they have a better reputations with them. Unfortuntely Europeans wants them less, so they will have better luck here with TANK 300

They should meanwhile think how to crack North America

there are only 16 showroom in Malaysia.
Many are just a showroom. Owner need to find service center for regular maintenance services.

People feel inconvenience to travel far for scheduled service.
Example Semenyih, Kajang owner need to go Puchong for car service.

EVs don't really require service. Those mandatory service (like BYD:) are milking your historical service anxiety. Service should be on need basis and this in reality is few and far between. How many service centre does tesla have?
