QUOTE(zzzxtreme @ Nov 23 2011, 12:30 PM) Hi guys, I'd be visiting tokyo early december If you don't plan to buy JR Pass, get SUICA, works like our TouchnGoDon't plan to use the weekly pass. so using Hyperdia's website, it says I have to change lines to reach my hostel. Do I have to buy tickets separately for different lines ? Added on November 23, 2011, 11:31 am why are you spending so much time in osaka ? u should only spend 2 nights there, and more times in kyoto |

QUOTE(stimix @ Jan 13 2012, 12:51 PM) Now better..You scare me wth the RM700 bullet train ticket earlier ..phewww.. Stimix, Still looking for alternative way reaching Tokyo during Midnite. Current best - Limousine bus - Y900. but to Suitengmae station /Tokyo Inland check-in Terminal.. If wanna stay in budget hotels mostly Asakusa area..At midnite..dunno what alternative if lomousine bus stop at Suitengmae station..peningggg.. Not sure whether anyone mention this before, actually there are arranged tours by JNTO to various spots around Japan (cue Hakone/Fuji tour). Can't remember how much it cost, but definitely not costing a leg or 700/pax. Great guide and Eigo service, includes food and a Shinkanshen travel experience. Definitely worth it; they did something for me till this day i can't forget. The tours depart from Hamamatsucho bus terminal, which is quite near to Tokyo Tower and Zojoji. You can get more information there and all JNTO offices (a big one in Shinjuku Metropolitan Office Tower). |

QUOTE(stimix @ Jan 13 2012, 05:14 PM) Shinkansen now secondary to me after experiencing almost similar bullet train in China haha...I'm more towards family budget travel /family backpacking style & hate those travle agents style arrangement ..I hate their time limit on each location and for those rubbish gem stores/ food factory utlets..like no limit wan or having min 1 hr limit when we finished within 15min I think there are some cheap accommodation around that area. Yup, from there you can take JR and Keihin Tohoku line. Hmmnnn anyway, you give me another idea..stay 1-2 days near hamamatsucho station which is the last stop for Haneda Monorail right? The tour im taking about is organized by the Japan National Tourism Organization aka their government body, not agent tour. Trust me, they go to great lengths (oh so typical of Japanese hospitality) to ensure you enjoy the tour and freedom to roam around. Sometimes, to those who don't understand moonrunes or even JLPT level4ers, touring around suburbs or countryside can be a big culture shock and hassle. Ok let me put down in details (have i not done this already? lol): 1. Board the bus at Hamamatsucho Bus Terminal. Bus travel is another eye opener. 2. Stop by Fuji Hotel resort (can't really remember the name, it's very famous) for lunch. 3. Travel to Mt. Fuji station 4-5. They let us walk around for 1-2 hours, which is more than sufficient to be honest. 4. Travel to Lake Ashi for boat cruise. Another 1 hour for cruise on a beautiful lake. 5. Travel to Mt. Komagatake for cable car. You can see Mt. Fuji in postcard view on your way up. Then, another 1-2 hours for hill viewing, which is again more than sufficient. 6. Board bus back to Odawara eki and board the Shinkansen from there. We actually had 45mins-1hour for picture taking of the bullet train. Talking about impeccable schedule management by the tour agents. All the above done in 1 day, which is more than enough time to walk around. If you intend to stay longer in Hakone resorts/additional plans, they actually provide free bus ride for you to return to your hotel/resort. |

QUOTE(drcoolz @ Jun 24 2012, 01:21 AM) Bro, i have been reading through japan thread from page 1. Seriously 5k is sufficient for 8days japan trip? Cuz im going soon on Sept and i have no idea how much to bring in. Im still a student and i dont have any credit card. The money to bring is giving me dilemma. Wow it's been sometime i last visit this thread.May I know what is the weather there during that time. Do i need to wear thick clothes or casual wear will be sufficient. Please advice Yes, 5k is definitely enough if just around Tokyo and strictly frugal. If you read around, i've posted my itinerary and cost breakdown a couple of times here. September should be still warm, but you may want to get a light jacket for the incoming autumn. |

QUOTE(drcoolz @ Jun 24 2012, 11:22 AM) Thank you for your advice. Another question, My travel location is from Osaka > Kyoto > Tokyo. Would 5k still be enough? Actually, im going to Korea for the first 3-4 days then to Japan for the remaining of a 10days trip. Is 5k still enough for this trip? 5k alone is not enough even for Osaka > Kyoto > Tokyo. Your shinkansen ticket alone cost RM500. Wait, unless you are willing to do Survivor 101 |
