actually you just dodge a bullet from buying & continue using OLED iPad Pro M4.

because that particular display tech suffers from BURN IN defect.
It WILL happen, sooner or later. keyword: WILL.

so just stick to LCD MiniLED for now, or wait until Apple decided to use microLED (which they didn't proceed last year, not sure why), which has the advantage of superb image quality of OLED minus the burn in.

i am still rocking my iPad Pro 12.9 M1 5G bought since 2021 by the way. Just thought to have its battery replaced since the Battery Health is like 72% now LOL

I think for Apple devices should not need to worry, Becos the first oled device which is iPhone X, until now I still did not encounter the issue of this.
And for m4 oled iPad, it has two layers of oled display so it should have even less worry for this.

Only issue is the PWM.

In the market for a new IPad now as my 2018 IPad Pro battery could only last 2-3 hours of YouTube viewing. It’s still snappy but I’m just lazy to charge it for almost 2 years but then only using it 2 years before have to charge again.

Comparing between IPad Pro M4 and IPad Air M2, the price difference is RM2k. Does it even make sense to buy the iPad Pro M4? In fact IPad Pro M4 price + RM500 could get you two IPad Air M2.

I’m leaning towards getting the IPad Air M2 unless there are convincing argument to go the other way.

For 2k more, the iPad Pro M4 gets you...

M4 chip vs M2 chip

Face ID vs Touch ID

4 stereo speakers (2 on each side) sound vs 2 speakers (one on each side of iPad)

USB-C port with support for Thunderbolt/USB 4 (as opposed to some USB 3 with 10gbps support on the Air)

New "Tandem OLED" Ultra Retina XDR display on the Pro with seemingly thinner bezels; ProMotion and Nano-texture option (only on 1TB and 2TB models) with a higher peak brightness of 1000 nits (SDR) and 1600 peak (HDR) -- WHILE the Air remains with the same Liquid Retina LED display with 500 nits max brightness that remains the same as last generation.

Allows you to get the Magic Keyboard case that's new with the newer trackpad and aluminum design (the old one/the one that supports the Air does NOT work with the Pro)

Thinner design and lighter weight (0.98 pounds/444 grams on the Pro compared to 1.02 pounds/462 grams on the Air)

Storage amounts - Pro starts at 256GB at $999 and up to 2TB while Air starts at 128GB and up to 1TB

ProRes video recording on the Pro (may be possible on the Air with third party apps, I'm not sure)

LiDAR Scanner

Silver and Space Black color options compared to the Airs having four (those being Blue, Purple, Starlight, Space Gray).

Both have the 11" screen size (though the Air is technically 10.86" diagonal as it shares the same panel as previous iPad Air that was a 10.9" screen).

I have the same problem too, but I am on an older iPad Pro 2017. The iPad still going strong except battery life and doesn't support the new iPadOS 18. sad.gif

It depends on your usage, if only for media consumption, I think Air is a good choice.

yeah the OLED thing was a big debate here with the iPhone X and now pretty much all of us use devices with OLED screens, it’s not the big deal it was once made out to be.

Importantly is find a an iPad that suites the needs of individual.

If budget is not a constraint certainly between air and pro, pro is a no brainer choice.

For me I am opposite, I just returned the iPad Pro m4 and an I am buying the iPad mini 7 Becos it suites my need while I am on the go.

When I am at home, I really do not need to use iPad Pro and unlikely I want to bring iPad Pro out to use.

Importantly, I do not need video editing or photo editing etc. iPad Pro screen is oled which is good but it does not fit my needs.

If Apple comes out an iPad mini pro or iPad Pro mini next time, it will be perfect.

purchased ipad pro 11 M4 on saturday, when unboxing in the shop, the ipad unable to switch on, the shop plug in the charger and can power on, check battery cycle was at 1 count......

bring back home and left it charging for 3 hours, after that totally unable to power on.

Bring back to the shop this morning and the technician check and informed the ipad is DOA and replace a new unit for me.....

tested the new replacement unit can power on and battery is at 86% and battery count is at 0....if he give me a flat ipad again, will reject and ask for another unit......

first time encounter a DOA device from Apple......

so if anyone purchase a new unit of ipad in the future, if the unit unable to power on after unboxing, please reject the unit and ask for another unit........

First unit manufacture date June 2024 - unable to switch on - battery cycle count = 1

Replacement new unit August 2024 - 86% battery when switch on - battery cycle count = 0

I’m curious about the screen protector you all use with the Magic Keyboard. I’ve heard that tempered glass might prevent the keyboard from closing all the way. Do you have any recommendations?
