Hello, I'm planning to buy a mechanical keyboard mainly for typing, not for gaming. I enjoy the sound that mechanical keyboard makes, I don't know much about it but know there's a few types, there's a DIY shop that specifically sells DIY customized mechanical keyboard called KEEBS Project, is it a good idea to go there and customize one ? Anyone got any experience with that shop or any other recommendations ? Thanks.

I’ve just been to physical store, are the switches’ brands like razer / chery MX / MMD etc all the same in terms or spec and quality ? And the only difference is in how it sounds ?

Thats the reason why I said go for modular. Just buy the switch and test it yourself. Some branded ones uses their own design. Be careful. Only buy MX compatible switches.

think u wanna research more about mech keyboard and its different switches before jumping in too fast and getting confused. start from simpler ones e.g.

there are just too many switches to choose from e.g. cherry, gateron, kailh, TTC (I like their scroll wheel encoders), outemu and so on. virtually nobody chooses razer switches, unsure if they even sell the switches separately though.

to put it simply, u should consider the types of switches (clicky/tactile/linear) + operating force (actuation force and also the full pressed force). some like 40g (light force needed to register a key stroke), some like 60g (more force needed to register a key stroke), some like some others. all depends on personal preferences. in terms of sound it's a combination of factors, one being silent switch (usually always linear), then keycap type (ABS vs PBT does make a difference) + lube + dampener (optional) etc. more experienced ppl can chime in.

depending on how deep u wanna go into the rabbit hole and get poisoned, u may make own custom mech keyboard. costs between rm600 to beyond rm1k per keyboard. can let other experienced people to make them for u as well. can also ask said experienced people to guide u which kind of switches, frame, PCBs u want and possibly based on their experience they may recommend u certain good kinds. can have hot swap PCB as well. I'm pretty sure u may have a friend or two who are extremely into custom kbs, can tarik them and ask.

if u instead looking into buying full set of custom kbs there are many shops in MY which do exactly that. I know of a few e.g. mecha malaysia (got physical shop), MKB.MY and kapco

if u look into razer, look elsewhere cuz u specifically mentioned not gaming. same goes to steelseries

I see, thanks for the advice. I'm not going to jump into the rabbit hole of the world of mechanical keyboards, all I want is a decent mechanical keyboard that will lasts me. I went to KEEBS Project's physical store and tested it, so far I like tactile and I love the sound and feeling of Holy Panda V2, so I might just go with that switch, which manufacturer does Holy Panda belongs to ?

different people have different opinion about switch..ask 2 or 3 friend about this and u can choose your own..for me i use razor ultimate 2013..cherry mx red..old version

I would say.. I am using both the K6 Pro (65%) and the K8 Pro ("full sized")
The compact one is great but you have to get used to the Fn modifiers when needing function key, a bit mafan
I prefer the full sized layout of the K8, however the tactility of the K6 Pro is better (due to smaller pitch?)
