That's a resource hungry games, might as well get an Alien series or Acer Predator series... maybe Asus ROG series.

Usually I don't mix work laptop with gaming laptop, I rather have them separately. Because work is where my income comes from...

and Games usually is where I spend... hahaha

Also its good to have 2 laptops, in the event your Gaming laptop crashes due to some updates, there will not be any impact on your daily work.

Just my POV... cool2.gif

Games just for kids to use when we are not using the laptop during weekends. priority still for office work that don't lag when work with multiple file (excel/powerpoint/outlook).

Are you the kind of person who goes to KFC specifically to eat Coleslaw or to go to Dominos specifically just to eat their spaghetti? If you are, then get the Honor laptop.

If you're not, then do yourself a favor by purchasing a laptop from a reputable laptop company such as Dell / HP / Lenovo.

For 3k, you're looking at 13 or 14" screen, i5 chip, 500gb ssd, 8gb of RAM, windows license and Iris igpu. For Ms OFFICE, just get the yearly subscription for RM3xx and share with 6 others. Dirt cheap.

3k there a couple of choices, but don't expect Valorant to be played at Ultra settings at unlimited FPS, you're probably looking at medium settings, no AA, no filtering and FPS hovering around 30 fps.

Or if you are willing to take the risk, get a used 2 to 3 year old gaming laptop, u can find them on Carousell... i'm sure those come with 3xxx series GPU ,16gb ram, i7 with good core/thread count and even a 1TB ssd.

Thanks for the comment.
The priority of the laptop is office work (excel/outlook/powerpoint) and I already bought the reputable laptop brand HP (KO) , Dell and Lenovo i'm still using and both give me problems as stated above.

Valorant (example) is just for casual game for kids, not that they going to play for competition etc. My current all 3 laptop (Acer, Dell and Lenovo) the kids still can play the game without any issue and all of them cost below 3k when I purchased.

For the new laptop. I'm seeking advice for the current brand/model that suitable and I do understand people don't mix gaming and work laptop together.

Honor Magicbook X16 2024 came in my mind because I notice those use the Honor Magicbook X14 and provide quit a good review and personal comment. If anyone that felt Honor is not up to the mark, can advice alternative?

Since priority is on Work purposes, I would suggest you go for branded like HP, Lenovo, Dell or Acer. Reason being they have Service Centre in KL & their support are also reputable. If you are able to opt to extend to 3yrs Warranty with Onsite support then it will be better, but still your choice.

As for Asus, Honor, Huawei, MSI, etc. they are also good in terms of products & services but you have to take your chances because they are new in the market and reviews says they encounter good but some encounter bad. So its a 50-50 chances... hahahaha...

As for myself, I would still preferred branded not because of the brand name but because of their maturity in the market, stability of their systems, good technical support with experienced engineers.

You should considered the following criteria's :-

1. Availability of Service Centre.
2. Location of Service Centre.
3. Warranty Period.
4. Availability to extend the Warranty period.
5. Availability for Onsite support.
6. Public Reviews of their Support & Services.
7. Public Reviews of their Products (specific model is preferred & not generic).

Hope this helps... cool2.gif

Thanks. Apart from Honor which I am looking into. I also notice Asus Vivobook 15 (intel chip) in the range of 3k with 5 years warranty from harvey Norman.

Is 16G ram and "HUGE" different from 8Gram in terms of running excel/outlook/ppt?

Any other laptop recommendation from HP or Acer (I skipped Dell and Lenovo as I already have 2 that give me problem) with similar spec? Below are the spec from HN.

Processor
Intel Core i5-12500H Memory
16GB DDR4 Storage
512GB PCIe NVMe SSD
Graphics
Intel UHD Graphics Screen
15.6-inch Full HD OS
Windows 11 Home

A huge excel file (many formatting, many rows) can reach a few hundred MB in size easily, and does benefit from 16GB RAM. From my experience outlook and ppt don't need 16GB RAM

Excel eats up memory like no tomorrow. If you work on huge (really big) Excel file, min is 16 GB ram. 32 GB is better. Working on Excel files exceeding 150 MB size!

Any laptops will/can have issues. Just deal with it. Mostly (from experience) is battery issues. Dell, Acer, Asus, IdeaPad, Legion, HP, Thinkpad, semua more or less same issue. Am now using HP, those cheap ones, parts aplenty and cheap, readily available.

There are no such thing of enough RAM... LOL... laugh.gif
But 16GB will suffice for now.

As you've put it, might as well give Honor a try & also since its a bargain for you. Heck you might even able to review it & give feedback after a few months use... hahaha...

Hope this helps... cool2.gif

Dear All,

Thanks . Family opt for Acer.

Regarding Honor/Huawei. It seems all inline with dcheah comment that getting the replacemant part will take time. Thus, we avoid that for time being.

The Honor Magicbook X16 2024 sounds like a good pick, especially for schoolwork and something like Valorant. I’ve used an Honor laptop before, and it handled everyday tasks really well, plus the build quality felt solid for the price. If you want to compare, maybe look at the ASUS TUF series—they’re known for being reliable for both gaming and work. Just make sure whatever you get has at least 16GB of RAM and a decent GPU so you’re not stuck dealing with lag down the line.

Dell quality down the drain and price not competitive anymore. Buy ASUS and Lenovo only
