It is said that the journey from KL Sentral to JB Sentral will take three hours and 30 minutes. Once completed, one can take the ETS all the way from JB to Padang Besar at the Thai border.

Only during peak hours, which is only early morning and evening, total of around 4 hours only. The rest of the day still 1 hour frequency.

The new frequency starts tomorrow, we will see if KTM will get service disruption during the first time.

You obviously have not travelled up north using ETS especially to Ipoh? That route is constantly packed and my in-laws as well prefer taking it as they are free to walk in the train, use the restrooms and have more freedom.

You must be king myvi or vellfire fast n furious type of driver on PLUS Highway. KL - JB is about 350km so non-stop driving should take about 3.5 hours.

I think some folks here mistaken ETS with Komuter.

As is ETS up north also has different classes. Some make more stops than others.

The only time I experience slowdown was from Ipoh to KL sentral, signalling issue so one section they had to go slow

The much-awaited Gemas-Johor Baru electrified double-tracking rail project (ETS) is set to transform Malaysia’s public transport sector to greater heights.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said the project would have direct economic and social impact on the country, especially to those in Johor.

As Malaysia strived to achieve the advanced economic status, he said the nation must have an efficient integrated public transport system.

“When a prime minister of 22 years did not give priority to the development of public transport, it has resulted in chaos.

“Too much focus was given instead to passenger cars, causing bad traffic jams.

“This happened because the (public transport) system used (under the said leader) was not integrated,” he told a crowd of more than 3,000 people at the groundbreaking ceremony of the Gemas-Johor Baru ETS projects yesterday.

Recently, ETS broke down and passengers had to wait 4 hours uncomfortably. Could be one off case, but that kinda scares people.

I love the KL-Butterworth ETS journey. Always feel very happy when getting off the train to walk to the ferry because the familiar sights, scents and sounds of that wonderful island awaits me. I've felt very much at home in Georgetown since I was 11. Maybe I should look to buy a condo there smile.gif

ERL runs on standard gauge 1435mm track

KTMB is inherited from the British era metre gauge 1000mm track

We are probably among one of the fastest operator on metre gauge already

That’s partly why we couldn’t operated faster rail services as it is physically limited by the tracks

Agree 100% on wider LRT coverage on island and mainland with reasonable fares. If it can be included in the Mutiara Card program, it would be a great help to lower-income rakyat as well as those who would not want to drive/ride. At peak times the Rapid Penang buses to Paya Terubong can be very packed... I feel sorry for the older passengers, but on the bright side I've seen many give up their seats(myself included) to them and the disabled.

Yes, they should get the new trains. Over the years train technology change a lot, modern electric trains are very quiet these days. But depending on the tracks also. If the tracks they build and maintain good then the trains can be very quiet also.

Actually hsr is the best, fast, smooth and quiet. Meglev only technology sounds good but the ride is quite rough.

Bro, unless you drive a Ferrari or Lambo at 180km/h without stopping at all, there is NO WAY you can make it at under 3 hours.

The best I did from KL to JB was 3.5 hours, AND that's not stopping about 140km/h.

KTM’s ETS service extends to Segamat, Johor – July 1
KTM’s ETS service extends to Segamat, Johor – July 1

KTM has released a teaser for its ETS train service in Segamat, Johor which will start on July 1 this year. Currently, the ETS is from Padang Besar in the north to Gemas, Negeri Sembilan in the south, so this would be the first time ETS is available in Johor.

In September last year, it was reported that the Gemas-Johor Bahru electrified double-tracking rail project would be completed by 2025.

“This whole project needs time to complete as it has been delayed many times, especially due to Covid 19, but now it’s on track.

We hope this project can be completed as soon as possible so that it can connect Johor Bahru to Kuala Lumpur and all the way to Padang Besar,” transport minister Anthony Loke said in September 2023, when the project was at 92% completion.

The Gemas-JB EDTP project is 192 km long and has 11 stops crossing 4 major districts in Johor, including

Segamat, Kluang, Kulai ,Kempas before terminating at JB Sentral.

It is said that the journey from KL Sentral to JB Sentral will take three hours and 30 minutes.

Once completed, one can take the ETS all the way from JB to Padang Besar at the Thai border.

Yup, ets or electric trains is the way forward. Less pollution, more safe, and timely. Using bus or cars, chances you can get stuck somewhere, an get into an accident.

ERL runs on standard gauge 1435mm track

KTMB is inherited from the British era metre gauge 1000mm track

We are probably among one of the fastest operator on metre gauge already

That’s partly why we couldn’t operated faster rail services as it is physically limited by the tracks
*
If wanna go faster we need bigger track gauge. But i am talking about noise. ERL seems well insulated compared to ETS. Even if u entered once u can spot the diff. ERL looks high end while ETS mcm komuter je. Haha. Unless bcos of track gauge, we have limited option for better train set. 😅

actually, if 3hr 30 min, I will just take flight to JB. only u all tokok about plus highway. at least i can walk around the airport rather than stuck in sardine can for 3 hours 30 min (assuming no delay or any technical issues).

it is funny that a lot still compare rail to road like this is the era that using steam engine in trains..

Actually you can ask pilot to directly landing at your house entrance, that one more efficient compared to lobbying at airport kan?

ETS or Plane has it advantages.

ETS
1. Value for long-term time/cost expenses.
2. More convenient, no need queue up for check-point, no need transfer here and there.
3. Averagely more faster door-to-door destination.
4. Festive season no price hike like airplane does.

You know, we last time naik keretapi lama biru aircond. Before before that bertingkap.

Zaman baharu ETS.

Tak sampai sampai to Johor states pula. Good to reach Johor akhirnya.

Maybe we need another 100 years only can match Japan rail from South to North at reasonable 1-2 hours. Even Taiwan pun boleh, Malaysia ketinggalan jauh.

Bro, unless you drive a Ferrari or Lambo at 180km/h without stopping at all, there is NO WAY you can make it at under 3 hours.

The best I did from KL to JB was 3.5 hours, AND that's not stopping about 140km/h.

Once RTS is connected, i think the cost entering Singapore could be cheaper than flight ticket per way. 3.5 hrs from KL-JB, then about half hour from JB to singapore.

Take flight also slightly the same time require.

ETS RTS need some commute time expenses.

*
You are probably referring to the older ERL trains.

Old ERL trains are built by Siemens and that's EU standard. tongue.gif

New ERL trains are built by CRRC and it has a very similar feel with the ETS (KTMB class 93) that's also by CRRC.

Couldn't disagree that the older ERL trains are nice and it's exactly like what trains are in EU.

QUOTE(Roblox Malaya @ Apr 21 2024, 11:24 AM)

If Pak Lah did not cancel the EDTP project by Tun M, we would already have double track elelctrified railway from Padang Besar to JB much earlier and probably at cheaper cost of 14.5 billion.

It is said that the journey from KL Sentral to JB Sentral will take three hours and 30 minutes. Once completed, one can take the ETS all the way from JB to Padang Besar at the Thai border.

Why so slow though? Too many stops?

If drive can reach in <3 hours.
*
If you follow the speed limit, it will really take approximately 2.5 hours non stop to complete from Skudai tol to Sungai Besi tol.

If you add rest. +30mins.

If you want to factor in the damn jam after Sungai Besi to KL City area, +30mins to 1 hour.

3.5 hours are reasonable

Add on: vavi jam from Skudai toll to 80km will slow down the traffic lot.

Gemas to KL is around RM32.

Current price of JB to Gemas is RM21.

I guess it will below RM80.

But even around RM60 is considered quite good.

Midnight - what is speed limit? the aim is nothing more 2.5hours to complete it.

Day time - quite sure on good days cause distance and speed doesnt lie. But these days, there is rarely a good day on daytime driving in Johor first 80km. So if observe speed limit, sure exceed 3hours.

If it is JB side, it is easier cause most of the ppl is like within 30 mins to the skudai toll.

But i do acknowledge the waiting time in train station will take up more time.

so 3.5hours train is not longer exactly 3.5hours train.

to be honest, alor-setar and butterworth lane is kinda fast.
one hour if i recall.
but problem is not much seat, some expected to stand up of course. but anyway its an option if ETS ticket sold out especially when close to long weekend, raya, cny etc.

The KTM network in Johor macam so hard to implement and deliver the ETS project. Since my primary school time I had been told we would be upgraded with double track ETS but until now I am already in my early thirties it is still 'coming soon.'

Another government source told ST that the current delay is due to YTL Construction’s inability to complete the technical aspects of the electric feeder line at Segamat’s Genuang Railway Station, which has prevented the overhead line from being energised.

A new deadline has been set for April 2025. YTL Corporation and the Ministry of Transport (MOT) did not respond to ST queries about the delays.

It already goes through Kluang, but not the rest. Can't be helped....this track is from British era...can't change unless want to build an entirely new route....i guess that's what the proposed HSR is supposed to do.

It really shows how unattractive the train service is for most Malaysians to ditch their cars.
During the Raya holiday season how many lives are taken on the road, because of so many rubbish drivers on the roads, yet people still have no choice but to drive thanks to the still-growing public transportation services.

Imagine many of us can spend more time off when riding the train Balik Kampung.... and reach Kampung with bus served as the first/last mile connectivity, practically even as a family of 5-6 people this is actually workable compared to driving which risks getting killed by incompetent drivers, who knows?

Why ETS train is so slow?

KL to Butterworth, just about 300km needs 4 hours. Sitting onboard for 4 hours is really long waiting and bored.

If you drive, also taking 4 hours.
