The race for the “world’s best airport” crown has been a two-horse affair in recent years, with Doha’s Hamad International and Singapore Changi leading the pack.

This year the title has switched, with 12-time winner Singapore being edged out of the top spot by its Middle Eastern rival in the Skytrax World Airport Awards 2024.

In a strong showing for Asia, Seoul Incheon bagged third place – also being named 2024’s most family friendly airport – while Tokyo’s twin facilities of Haneda and Narita took fourth and fifth spots.

Hong Kong airport saw a significant boost, up 22 positions to 11th place after the city shook off its Covid-19 hangover and passenger numbers rose.

Once again US airports were nowhere to be seen near the top of the table, with the highest ranked, Seattle-Tacoma, slipping six places to 24.

Europe continued to have a strong showing, with Paris Charles de Gaulle, Munich, Zurich and Istanbul all maintaining positions in the top 10.

In other moves:

New York’s JFK fell five places to 93rd; LaGuardia rose from 57 to 33

Melbourne remained the top ranked Australian airport, steady in 19th place

London Heathrow jumped one spot to 21st, while Gatwick was up seven to 48

Japan’s Okinawa was the biggest climber, from 199th to 91st position

Being someone in JB, i prefer fly from Senai anytime more than Changi. Changi charges $50+ SGD airport taxes. if not because there is no direct flight from Senai, i wouldn't even consider flying from Changi.

one of the good things about changi is the food is quite affordable
its not overly more expensive than food outside of changi

To me, Changi Airport deserve. I haven't have chance to visit Doha's Hamad International Airport, so I won't comment about that airport. But, I had visited Changi Airport, and have good experiences.

KLIA don't deserve. Compared to Changi Airport, KLIA just rubbish.

Changi airport can still won the best airport awards after the opening of terminal 4, I believe the shortcomings of terminal 4 did not affect much.

Terminal 5 is under construction. According to news report, the terminal 5, when completed, allegedly will be larger than all 4 existing terminals combined, and will be one of the largest airport terminals in this world.

Probably that's why T5 is being built. That is going to be massive, iinm bigger than the current 4 combined.

Honestly, KLIA is very depressing now. Probably 40% of its open spaces are ‘under construction’. Toilets are badly managed. Not to mention the restaurants choices are sad… even the WH shops has so few choice of sandwiches vs other airports and their sandwiches looks bad for its prices.

To me KLIA is like stuck in the past... shops and facilities lacking, toilets are crap. Food are expensive and lack variety... just a true reflection of the country state.. stagnant and regressing

One thing I like about changi. Despite being one of the busiest airport you won't feel it.

Immigration check and everything is automated. Its a breeze. I really love that.

Especially if you use Suite or First Class immigration access from T3 or T2. Really private.

bro...that one way beyond me la. I only go to PPL at T4. lol

T4 is also where Cathy Pacific takes off... their noodle bar at the lounge is actually quite good, but unfortunately no showers.

T4 is really small but very straight forward, not much walking. I like it because the baggage check is right after the immigration. not individual gate

No,(past 2-3 months) lately all my flight from kl full screening for all passengers upon arrival at the gate. They set up like 5 to 6 lane wirh xray and scanner. Not when you depart from the arrival hall.

Not last week when I flew in from Indonesia. Occasionally they do check when I fly in from Malaysia but funnily it’s usually when I travel budget air. If I fly SQ or MH, it never happens. I will be flying to Europe in 2 weeks time, will look out.

As a frequent flyer with SQ, I can categorically confirm that our carry on bags have never been stopped for scans prior to immigration clearance.

Obviously everyone will be scanned prior to boarding but that is a different story.
