Hi. I just recently had in hand 2 sticks of 32GB DDR4-2133 RDIMM Ram
I've tried them on my pc running with X570 motherboard and R9 3900x but didn't manage to boot up. I guess not compatible even though the motherboard support ECC rams.
Since they are not easy to get, so i guess will try to see what i can do with them before letting go.

I really appreciate for any suggestion for best pc or workstation setup that i can come out with with these rams within the budget around 3-3.5k.
I mostly do 3d modelling and rendering.
Maybe can start with motherboard which maybe compatible. I've been searching around but mostly support EEC UDIMM.

Thanks in advance.

Just sell them wink.gif The component cost to drive them is too expensive.

Motherboard vendor doesn't spend time to add the support on consumer level board since normal user doesn't need it. So your choice is either :
- Decommissioned server -> You don't get modern single core performance
- HEDT -> Will experience some performance lost at the 2133MHz and cost ridiculously high that doesn't really justify for such purpose.

RDIMM is in Epyc territory, no way would be cheap. With such niche Im also doubtful there will be much demand in 2nd hand market, even tho these stuff are not cheap when new. Good luck!

I have made a price check on server parts before, I found some used parts on taobao that can support Registered ECC Ram, eg
- Xeon Gold 6133 with SM X11SPL-F for RMB4100
- Xeon E5-2680v4 with SM X10SRL-F for RMB3400
- EPYC 7xx2 wiht H12SSL-i for RMB5550
- a stick of 32GB registered ECC ram costs RMB200-300

The cheaper option would be going with older Intel Xeon platform, but they would be less efficient. EPYC platform is powerful, gives you lots of cores and PCIE slots but the price is crazy.

The cost to upgrade to these server grade parts are huge. Often need to swap the entire system. Then you need to factor in the total power consumption, electricity cost and heat & noise if you want it to run 24/7.

Compatibility issues can be a pain. Since you're into 3D stuff, you'll want a good setup to make the most of those RAM sticks.

For a motherboard, you'll need one that supports RDIMM RAM like yours. It might take some searching, but you can find them. With your budget, you should be able to get a decent motherboard and other parts to go with your RAM.

Just remember, for 3D work, you'll also need a good CPU and GPU, so balance things out. And don't forget about storage and cooling!

I believe ddr4 registered rams work on X99 systems. just pair with some affordable xeon and a old x99 mobo

Any Ryzen 59xx or recent gen i9 will tapau such ancient system at far lower power draw & much faster performance. Not worth going so far back in computer ancient history.

Not worth the effort & money just to save 2 sticks of RDIMM. Now if he was donated an old Xeon system and he only needed RAMs to make use, that is another story...

Thank you for all the response icon_rolleyes.gif icon_rolleyes.gif . I've done some searching and found used X99 motherboard as suggested. Gonna use the setup for 3d modelling, pairing with my old GTX 1080. Should run well for the task i guess. Not going to use for gaming.

Hey,

You mentioned that you run 3D modelling + rendering and wanted a workstation. The last company i worked for was a A/V media solutioning company (that runs tons of rending and video editing content) and just so happened they closed down not too long ago aftermath of covid period era. being one of their creative editor, they asked my help to find buyer for their desktop workstation.

i have taken the workstation desktop apart and wanted to sell piece by piece.
if you're looking for mobo, ram, GPU (Nvidia P6000), and many others. There's huge ass LED TV,
imacs and all the Visual equipment support system hardware you name it.

items are in super great condition and super UNDERUTILIZED, due to almost NO project/business. Owner purchased them back in 2021-2022, and i can send photos to you or can come over to have a look (which ever convinient)

i can be reached at xlr8.xlv@gmail.com, or via whatsapp / call at; 013-2777697
i dont really answer unknown numbers, would appreciate it if you could send WhatsApp beforehand.

glad to be help.

Those RAM sticks are solid, but RDIMM can be tricky with X570 boards. Check if your BIOS is updated; that might help. For a budget build, consider something like the ASRock Rack X570D4U, which supports RDIMM.

It sounds like you’ve got some nice RAM there, but I get how frustrating it can be when it doesn’t boot up. For your setup, I’d recommend checking out workstation motherboards from Supermicro or the ASUS Pro WS series that specifically list RDIMM and ECC support. When I built my workstation for 3D modeling and rendering, I went with a Ryzen Threadripper, and it made a huge difference in performance. With your budget of $3-3.5k, you can definitely grab a solid CPU, a good GPU for rendering, and enough storage to handle your projects.
