The weakest element I think is Michelle Monaghan, who has this wide-eyed, blank-faced expression 90% of the time.  4.5/5

Incidentally, I just got Lehane's Shutter Island today, along with Brave New World, which until today I thought was banned here. Couldn't find it anywhere for a long time and today I saw 6 or 7 copies at Borders.

WTF? I thought she was solid in Gone Baby Gone and I can't wait to see her in Trucker. I love her! Love her!

Any coincidence it's out when the movie's coming out soon...

I've not watch Whiteout but I frankly can't wait to see it.

Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs - 2.5/5 The most unfunny and unentertaining animated flick I've seen since Shark's Tale.

You mean since Ice Age 3.

Ice Age 3 was decent. The animation was brilliant, liked the variety in the environments but must admit, it got a little stale. Much better than this.

what is triangle?

which trailer did you watch? there's one three and a half minute and a 2 minute one. i liked the extended version, looks good. cameron's track record is good enough

have no idea what u are talking about. so u saying PJ's KK is the KK of our generation? I have to disagree respectfully. The sense of awe is lost for PJ's KK since we have seen so much of him from TV spots and everything but when we first see a T-Rex or Bronthosaurus, it's awe inspiring

indeed

havent seen it

i liked new moon

agree. good observation on bale.

(500) Days of Summer - I am truly convinced that this is the best film of 2009. I haven't seen a film that has taken me on an emotional roller coaster as much as this. It has one of the best soundtracks of 2009, the best usage of music in a film this year, the best on-screen couple, it breathes fresh air into the stale romantic comedy genre with two of the most memorable sequences (You Make My Dreams Come True and Expectations vs Reality) and while it's easy to marvel at the beauty of the film in its cinematography and its acting but to experience a film that connects with the viewer (i.e. me) is a something rare and special.

I don't know what ratings I gave this initially but this is a 5/5 for me.

EDIT: I think Zooey Deschanel was robbed from a Golden Globe nomination. Sandra f***ing Bullock?!

I didnt like it that much. Sure, almost everyone feels connected to it, but at the end it didn't leave anything behind for me. What did it show me that I didnt already know? What was the point of the movie?
*
What? Seriously? I mean, you ask that question after every movie you watch? I could pinpoint 100 movies that showed me things I already would know about but that isn't the point, is it?

Terminator Salvation: Director's Cut BD - An extra 10 seconds or so worth of Moon Bloodgood warrants a Director's Cut makes this the most ridiculous Director's Cut of all time. But back to the movie, it's a trainwreck.

QUOTE(QuickFire @ Dec 27 2009, 06:12 PM)
What's the point of showing you what you go through when you break up? There are the witty, hippy dialogue, little quirky details and cool soundtrack all of which I enjoyed but those are merely embellishments to a movie which I feel tries and wants to be a realistic break-up movie that makes a point but what point, I do not know. All movies have a point. Bruno's point was to sicken you and make you laugh at the same time. Wanted's point is to have some OTT fun. This movie's point was maybe to show you what a realistic break up and post-break-up is? Sorry but I dont find that interesting enough. We experience that enough. Either you have gone through that and the movie adds nothing new, or you havent gone through it and you feel disconnected form the movie.

While we're at it I think the best soundtrack is The Boat That Rocked or Inglourious Basterds.  tongue.gif

Unfortunately I didn't have much fun watching Wanted but that is where (500) Days of Summer aces it for me. It succeeds in making me feel in and out of love throughout the whole movie which I would think would be the point, if you would call it that, of the movie. I don't see how you can take out aspects of the movies that you like and say it'd be a lesser movie without these aspects because like it or not, it is part of the movie and it's these little details that make or break movies for me. Take away the B-movie dialogue and preaching from Avatar and it would be a masterpiece but it's not. Does Bruno add anything new from what we have seen Borat? Does it make it a lesser movie because we've experienced the same feelings from Borat? I don't think so. Interestingly, you say that the movie adds nothing new but I've seen a lot of aspects of the film that separate it from the average romance film - the dance number, the animation, the split screen expectations v reality scene, the characters breaking the wall and addressing the audience and well the back and forth storytelling through the 500 days of the relationship.

I would love to watch more movies that could make me feel these sort of feelings more and a lot of romantic comedies try ever so hard to make you feel different feelings at different times and most of them fail miserably so it's refreshing and rare to have a movie that succeeds in making me feel a flurry of emotions. This is one of the rare films I love to watch and rewatch just to go through and revisit their relationship again.

*f*** me, I'm blabbering...but I just <3 this movie.* tongue.gif

I don't think that's the reason why he didn't like the film. He seems to want to know what was the purpose/lesson from the film and I don't think there is one other than to show the audience how a relationship is remembered and to perhaps make us feel what it is like to be through a break up. But of course, it's just mere speculation on my part.

you liked it, noob?

Ah that explains it laugh.gif My girlfriend hates Tom because she thinks he's useless. Girls, what do they know about boys like Tom?

How is Tom useless? He's just an idealist who believes the world goes round with love. Of course I'm being defensive because while Tom worships The Graduate, I worship The Apartment and Casablanca.

Well, from a girl's point of view, acting childishly when you can't get over a girl is considered weak.
*
the f***? she's cold blooded! he did get over the girl, it just took time. besides, the expectations v reality scene was the killer blow. I mean he was recovering already and then when he met her on the train and she invited him over, he thought of it as a false dawn. sad.gif

Jennifer's Body - the whole movie and only ONE line was funny and it relates to Wikipedia in which I nearly choked on my dinner with crumbs all over my laptop.

Apart from that - horrible film.

The Happening - 9/10

After The Village and Lady in the Water, I had ZERO expectations but thankfully, this is nothing like those movies, it is more similar to my favorite Shymalan film - Signs. If you can get pass the fact that the cause of 'The Happening,' I think you'll find a thoroughly enjoyable horror film.

If it is any justification as to why I have given this film such high scores, it is because I can sit through this having watched the same film before and still feel on the edge of my seat and thoroughly entertained.
