I have a 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander with Apple Carplay. Some apps will run fine from Bluetooth but others (inc Google Maps) require a cable connection to show the relevant display. Cable is obviously needed for charging too.

Carplay runs fine on a standard Apple USB to Lighning cable (iphone XS Max running ios 17.4.1) but I can’t seem to find an Apple cable longer than 1m which is causing problems with where to put the iphone. So, can anyone advise if Apple do a longer cable (1.5m is ok) or if any other USB to Lightning cable is recommended? I have tried several cheap options from Mr DIY type of stores and they tend to be fine for a couple of months but then stop talking to the Carplay. I am also concerned that they might be damaging the Lightning input socket on my phone.

Any suggestions?

Thank you.

U need a MFI certified cable. Branded ones from Ugreen or Baseus do make longer ones.

Hey!

So, dealing with cable length in your car can be a real pain, huh? As far as I know, Apple doesn't do Lightning cables longer than 1 meter. But don't sweat it – there are some third-party options out there.

Brands like Anker or Belkin make longer Lightning cables that should work fine with Carplay. Just make sure you're getting one that's certified by Apple to avoid any compatibility issues or damage to your phone.

I get the temptation to go for cheaper options, but those Mr DIY type cables can be a bit dodgy. They might work at first, but they could crap out on you or mess up your phone in the long run.

So yeah, investing in a decent third-party cable might be worth it for smoother Carplay action. Just check the specs to make sure it's compatible with your setup, and you should be good to go!

Yeah, the Anker ones are pretty good, especially the ones with the additional reinforcement near the head. Easier to grip and plug.
