endless malls and traffic jams.

at 1point everything felt so artificial . nvr into much social life anyway .

sometimes ayam do think of just selling all stuff and moving out to some remote place at other states outside KL

anyone worked in KL and successfully move away from the city to outskirts? when finally u able to do so?

somehow the cost of living in my kampung almost same with KL, except rental still cheap, and the salary offer at my kampung is quite low compare to KL. To survive, I has to stay at KL, else I need to makan papa mama.

I never like city life to be honest.

Last time, I do like going to city. Going to shopping mall etc.

But as I'm getting older, I watch a lot of Minimalism videos, I don't feel like purchase anything that I don't need. I already change my mindset when it comes adding stuffs to my home.

Dah jarang turun KL eventhough I live in Selangor. There's everything I need at here.

It's true. The traffic are the most draining point for me.

I was at Penang and JB for the past few years and i went back residing at KL last month.
The jam here are the fucking exhausted me.

15mins(8km) distance you need to ready 1hour gap for the car commuting.

Because you are not used to embrace the boredom in your life.

Your brain always want to keep stimulated and crave for entertainment.

People that live in village, they already used to embrace the boredom. They can live without shopping mall, viral eating places and other stuffs. They find other kinds of entertainment to entertain themselves.

My commute inclusive of dropping of kids and picking them up is about 1-1/2 hour one way. Some days coming back takes 2. But my wife is 5 mins away from home so as long as one of us dont spend too much time comuting i'm fine. Also jams arent that bad when you have your kids in the car. You can spend time catching up

Soon all my kids will be in primary school which is walking distance so i can reduce my journey to under an hour since i dont need to drop off and pick up from taska.

I used to commute with car to work. It was hell tiring. 9km journey takes me an hour. I was mentally drained and stressed out. When my FIL handed one of his motorcycle to us, I switched back to riding to work.

I have been riding for about 10 months now (work commute only) and it was absolutely alleviating my stress.

I've now switched jobs to somewhere closer to home but the commute would take me 45 minutes for a 6km journey. I continued riding and it only took me 10 minutes or less.

I am here thinking, why don't more people ride motorcycle like how it is in Jakarta and Thailand for work commute, it is genuinely less stressful.

Yeah me too, home to work only 20km. No jam 18-20 mins can reach by car but normally got jam takes 1 hour. Decided to ride to work too, less than 20 mins only.

Ditto.
Moved back to Sarawak in 2015, and never looked back since. Best choice ever for me due to personal circumstances.
Occasionally will drop by in KL for works purpose, visiting friends/relatives, or for satisfying retail needs.
Other than that, I prefer moderately busy life in Kuching, though life here is slowly increasing in pace due to the ever growing city post covid.

now they are doing the same thing to taman melawati where i live. even now oso traffic is a standstill .

so many proposed condos back there near the green areas. in 10-20 years it will be near unhabitable as the sheer volume of ppl

deswai me now is saving for an exit plan to retire away from KL . even ipoh or some suburbs in Sabah is gooding.

job opportunities in smaller towns rather hard to come by
unless the some huge infra project coming up or factory move

currently staying in a small town
takes me 20 mins to cycle, drive 5 min, moto simpan kat opis gi bank kemana
ada gunung nak panjat
good food sana sini
nightlife boleh laaa but confirm not as hebat for young ones
mak ayah bini tak brapa jauh
janji gaji hujung bln

That is nice. I wish I had the same chance as you. When single I've worked a few stints in cities like KK and Tawau , Sabah for few years. I find it not as bad as KL . The town is a bit slow , yes. But It kinda grew on me . For Sarawak, I've heard Miri is also not bad?

More and more job opportunities are available throughout Sarawak lately. Due to booming of new industries here, such as hydrogen, microalgae, renewable energy and etc.
Miri is a nice and clean city too, around 300k population and adjacent to Brunei. Pace is slower than Kuching.
From Miri can easily drive to Sabah, through Brunei and Limbang.

For Kuching, we may not have the largest malls and most popular retail franchises, but we have alot of heritage shoplots, museums, kampungs, beach, mountain, caves, rainforest, river, and cultural elements to enjoy.

City living is not for everyone. If you cannot take it, suggest you move out before it takes a toll on you.

Also, why the need to go to malls? Just go somewhere over the weekend and enjoy it.

Go outside of KL, go to Janda Baik, go to Genting, go to Bentong, go to Sepang/Morib/Tanjung Sepat, go to Seremban, go to Melaka, go to musuem, etc....

*
Most of the jobs in Miri/Bintulu are oil and gas related...Not that diverse in terms of job opportunity..

If you are not in oil and gas, susah ler....

I also prefer city as it is more merrier especially for foreveralone but only if the people is friendly and can be friends easily but Malaysia people hard. Friendly yes but friend hard. Jakarta people there easily make friends if you are conversational in their language. Just few trips there and we even exchange phone number already.

mine is as good as it gets, can play games at 25 ping.

It is 10 minutes to the beach, at the foot of a mountain, near national parks.
There's literally a crocodile warning signs in my village, that is how close we are with nature.

5 minutes drive, there's a hypermarket, clinics, ATM, pet shop, petrol station, bengkel, barber, wet market, food court/mapley and so forth.
The only problem is there are no banks and post office. City center is 15-20 km away.

traffic jam wearing you down? you all need to ditch your cars and take public transport. last mile connectivity? walking ~15mins is normal.
door to door time is about the same no matter go back early or late.
if tired at work, just go home straight. if got energy, can window shop first.

I understand TS. It's not that we want to stay ultra remote area like Sungkai, Segamat for someone saying it's going to be boring.

No it's not.

I WFH fully but I still live in KL due to purchased commitment i.e. mortgage, etc. Me and wife plan reach 45-50 we will move somewhere that:

- Sub-Urban with good quality environment
- Internet Access
- Convenient in terms of accessibility i.e. Hospital, Malls, Hawker food Pasar etc

So since me and wife born in North Malaysia, we are deciding either Ipoh, Batu Kawan, or Alor Setar.

Also TS, since I WFH, i can tell u my experienced staying outside KL like 1-2 months. It is amazing man. I felt my body feel refreshed, living outside KL, people are not so individualistic, you can talk to random people etc and I like the energy.

And you should too.

coz southern part of KL has no more lands

the master plan is to stretch the urbanity northbound all the way up to Rawang

with the direct access to Setapak via SPE, very soon Setapak would be like Subang area, and TARUC would be as upkar as Sunway uni

People that live in village, they already used to embrace the boredom. They can live without shopping mall, viral eating places and other stuffs. They find other kinds of entertainment to entertain themselves.

Traffic jam not an issue, use motorcycle and drive during off peak.

Malls? Don't go to that normie shit. Greenery? I live in the suburbs, so it's quite peaceful, just sounds of birds. Mostly stay with kafir, so it's very peaceful too.
I give u tip, find the highly kafir populated area and you will have peace of mind

If the first thing to headache when go out is traffic jam, how can you live peacefully?

I left Setapak for good after 9 years in KL. I found that the place getting more jam as time goes by. Even with the LRT, the place is simply too congested.

Since i am a very indoor person, fun was never an issue in hometown or city.

envy u. Ipoh damn a lot of unsold properties. My wife friend from Ipoh can buy good township house facing the lake 300k only.

It's crazy how the society pressure u to leave the house join the jam spend $$$ to "enjoy life". I prefer to stay at home give me peace and quiet. eat when hungry. Everyday chicken rice or chapfan also i wouldn't mind. But me and u seems like the minority. Majority cannot be happy unless they go out of the house to join the crowd.

Quite agree because even my siblings also beh tahan but for people who love to follow their own schedule and peace is somehow important for you, Perak is that kind of place. Night life is minimal, either exercise, drink alcohol, kiukai, gamble or grow plants. When I was in KL, I went out every single night for yamcha and wondered why I couldnt save money hence I decided to leave the bubble because I couldnt see where I will stand in the future living a life like that.

Getting in commitment is good like buying property or taking loan for business but when the property price breaking the ceiling in kl, I rather save more than half of that money which is 300k to 500k for a corner lot landed or kampung baru house lot sized at 40x90 in Ipoh.

In fact I get to spend more time in that property which I am paying way lesser compared to paying high installments and live minimal hour in minimal size property.

Just my 2cents, at least I can spend more time on my wellbeing.

If one lives sensibly within one's means, and does what is possible to mitigate the less-desirable effects of city life, it can be quite pleasant.

Those who spend like a duke, keep up with the joneses, and overindulge on wine, women and song are probably at the point in time where they're eagerly awaiting and gasping like a fish out of water, for payday to arrive.

I have a customer, him and the residents are still fighting a case even after 6 years, why? Team keris had a project where it supposedly a guarded area but funny thing is, theres a private road build right through this 'guarded area' which link to the palm estate on the other side of the project where the palm estate is.

Another customer moved out due to his 1 year old property's ceiling came crashing down. Whoever want to buy Perak's property, best to avoid this developer.

Im now looking at the progress of residential properties for Silverlake project, since 2017. Already songlap a lot by delivering minimal result.

Lesson is avoid developers who only develop pocket lands and Team Keris in Perak. Thank God Jeffrey Cheah is developing Tambun.

I guess nobody understands how Capitali$t Economic$ actually works. You must have constant development or else the MONEY stops.

That's why Ipoh will eventually lose ALL its hills. That's why KL goes from single layer flyover to double flyover to triple flyover....etc.

Anyone played Age of Empires before? Once the resource is depleted, it's THE END.

Picture it like a slow cancer.

I've been in a similar boat, feeling like everything's just too artificial sometimes. While I haven't made the move myself, I've heard plenty of folks who've left KL for the outskirts and they've never looked back.

tired working in KL with jam. Need ride MRT, also tiring but healthy, getting 6k steps per day. End up take job at Miri instead, 30 minutes max at peak hours jam.

Friday and Monday are WFH so usually flying back in KL Thursday night, back to Miri with AA at 6am flight on Tuesday straight heading office

Need to take care of elderly fader. initially though I thought it will be ok to stay in KL since have fond memories of childhood home. after 4-5 years of enduring this jam and seeing that its not going to get better, hence this tered.

If actually no responsibilities left I would have long gone somewhere else . Maybe i'll choose somewhere like quiet like dungun, terengganu . Or any part of borneo side. But a man can dream ..

I'm the other way round.
Office in KL stayed in Nilai before. Exhausted due to travelling daily.

Bought a house within 5 - 10 minutes from office, solved the issue.
Yes not peaceful but at this point of time dedicated life for work so decided to take this path.

Once retired maybe will move further from city like Janda Baik or any beach area for quality life before death.

During non-festival days or when the school holidays are over, these areas slowly turn back into ghost towns.

“We have towns where all or almost all are senior citizens, the place is not growing anymore.

“The biggest factor is that there are no economic drivers or job opportunities to maintain the youth,” said Malaysian Research Institute on Ageing (MyAgeing) senior research officer Chai Sen Tyng.

“It is so bad in some areas that they would only look forward to the weekend visitors when families and children come to visit.

“On the weekdays in rural areas, there is practically nothing there,” he said.

no.
KL is a good place with lots of shopping option.
if u are rich (not billionaire kind of rich) and stay in smaller town, there are many stuffs that are just not available. heck even connectivity to KLIA for oversea travel is a pain in the ass.

ada gunung nak panjat
good food sana sini
nightlife boleh laaa but confirm not as hebat for young ones

never reveal too much on the net

so lets just say it's this small southern town called Labis
which is soon turning into an almost "UNLIVABLE" condition
soon it'll become a Tangkak watch n see

why?
this town sits on the main trunk, Road 1
the amount of traffic that passes right smack through this town is way too much for the locals to handle
some form of revamp on the town planning is required to make moving around more sustainable
at the moment now the roads (with a flyover) are being upgraded and am hoping this will ease the congestion a lil

what normally happens when you widen roads?
you simply get nothing but more traffic
the congestion not only remains, but generally gets much worse

where you're from btw

lets take Bekok
one solid town too
plenty of potential
got mountains
hutan
very small town though
cut off from the main line
but i hear there's a road on the way linking it to Paloh which will then change the course of travelling within central Johore to a much greater experience
