When people say Asus routers are good, they mean of those Broadcom-based models like -68U, -86U, -88U and few others as well its variants.
Other than those models, you are overpaying for very old but proven, or just nothing spectacular MediaTek chipsets just to have 'Asus' name slapped on it. You can get the exact same or even better chipset for less with tplink.
