Scenario:
Already existing autogate system power by main and battery backup.

Goal:
To have the autogate system powered by Solar and battery backup.

What I understand is I can get a solar panel and solar charge controller to charge the battery.
25W panel with 10A PWM charge controller would suffice. The issue is now how can I do it.
Anyone done this before? Care to share how?

Add another diode in parallel to the existing one on-board so it can select whichever source that is present. All the gate controller in the market lacks a proper charging mechanism, it just apply the DC voltage higher than the SLA battery so it will charge continously and hence most battery kaput quite fast like a year or so.

Conventional auto gate board open slower on 12V DC.

Diodes. You need diodes to isolate the charging circuits

I was wondering why my battery kaput after a year or two, so that's why.
Do you know of any instructions or diagram? Would get some help from a competent wireman around here but unfortunately I haven't encounter one.

This is true though.

Haha..been in that situation twice so far. Did not expect the battery gone kaput so soon so went back home and found blackout in the area and my gate won't open. Lucky not with family so can panjat pagar setel.
So the battery backup can't use larger voltage?

Use lithium instead of those gel type, last almost forever because autogate uses very little power. Already ordered a 12/24V board meant for solar power to test. If ok, will update here later.
