QUOTE(lawliet88 @ Jan 30 2024, 01:18 PM) New sohai rule la, any non prc treated like 3rd class They're improving, more tourists friendly nowIirc hotel is one of it , then subway/train buying ticket also same, local can do "tng" non, have fun queuing I just back from china, I don't use any cash, everything paid just like local. For TS, I suggest you don't bring your parents to use subway since they can't walk far distance, very crowded. Just use taxi or their ehaiing, this is what I did when I bring my parents jalan2. |

QUOTE(tankerbell12345 @ Jan 30 2024, 01:11 PM) You are asking two questions there. They increase a lot of restrictions over foreigners since COVID. Many cases Malaysian went there, book hotel on Agoda that said can allow foreigners then suddenly reached there say cannot stay. Imagine reaching there midnight then drag your luggage to find new hotel that can take you. Whether they like foreigners like Malaysian. They look down on us even Chinese ethnic. Not all like that but big percentage do. |

Very simple to add Alipay app (use your bank ATM card from here) - that gives you all the Cashless access and privileges of a local. You can then use the Didi app inside the Alipay app and don’t worry if your Chinese reading is not too good the app also perfect function in English.
As said above doing subway with elders can be very challenging - the subway system is phenomenal but also very busy and a lot of walking at interchange s. Taxis and Didi is cheap and effortless - much better option. |

If you can read Mandarin, use Ctrip to do hotels and local ground tour bookings. You can filter by price, room size, distance from subway, open to foreigners, laundry facilities etc. It’s much cheaper than using trip.com which is in English. All payment is thru Alipay (tng & credit card) or WeChat (credit card).
Extra useful tip - most hotels provide free washing room (laundry) with free detergents too!. Super convenient because you don’t have to pack so many clothes for your trip. |

QUOTE(Twins10 @ Jan 30 2024, 03:24 AM) Bring my aging parents to Beijing first time. They can't walk far so hotel must be close to subway. BroBeen searching around. Booked holiday inn express 10 nights rm3800 a room, it's free cancellation . Looking for a cheaper alternative and found many local hotels rm150-200 don't accept foreigners! Lucky didn't book n prepay or else burn rm2000. Anyone can recommend which hotel they stayed before? Found ibis, near tiantandongmeng station but rooms really bare n small.. similar to tune hotel Johor. Thanks in advance. I might be going in apr.. wanna share notes? |
