AceCombat reporting in!!!

Today is a good day to do some benchy and oc stuff,so i decided to go and meet up my sponsor and get a Palit 8800GT 512MB 256bit version.
Palit is a well known brand which most of their products are highly overclockable and selling at bargain price.

Firstly,let's look at the shining box. brows.gif
user posted image
from the box we can see that it's just as big as those previous model that made by Palit,and Palit just replace the old green color box to a shining green color box.

Then,let's us look at the accessories that bundle together with the display card.
S-Video,VGA to DMI converter,molex to PCIE converter,Driver disc,user manual and a game.
The game that bundle together is Tomb Raider Anniversary drool.gif

Rock and Roll babe,here comes the all new G92 8800GT from Palit,it has a katak hijau on top of the heat sink and it's a layer of sticker,the card got some weight.
user posted image

As for the rear part,it has 12 screws locking the heat sink fan.the PCB is nVidia reference green color.

Alright,after a simple introduction,let's move on and install the card into a pc spec as below:
Intel Core 2 Quad Extreme QX6700 Kentsfield B3 stepping
Asus Maximus Formula bios 0505 rev1.02g
Crucial 10th Anniversary 2*1GB DDR2 800MHz 4-4-4-12 (i standardize it)
Enermax Infiniti 650W Modular PSU
Western Digital Raptor 10k RPM 74.3GB
Cooler Master Stacker STC-T01 with a 200cfm fan blow directly from intake into GC area.
Driver: nvidia forceware 167.26

Let's move on,the machine is started!!!

Once the pc started,i installed the driver that bundle together with the GC,it's forceware 167.26,and i installed the Direct X 9.0c that bundle with the driver too.
and then i'll be using Riva Tuner 2.06 as the GC overclocking tool and CPU-z and GPU-z to confirm the spec of the hardwares.
Let's move on to the GC temperature.

user posted image

for a single slot high core and memory clock speed GC,an idle temperature of 59c consider very good already,riva Tuner shows that teh GC is at the stock speed.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Overclocking and Benchmark Section:
--------------------------------------------
First run of the GC,
whole rig remain stock speed except the ram.
Processor:Intel Core 2 Quad Extreme QX6700 @ 2.66GHz
RAM:800MHz 4-4-4-12
GC:Palit 8800GT core/mem/shader 600/1800/1500MHz
user posted image
It's ready to go!!!
Temperature status:(600/1800/1500,stock)
59c idle
82c load
The temperature for load is a bit rclxub.gif
and here it comes,the result for stock condition,unbelievable!!!!
user posted image
Second Run of the GC
Quad @ 2.66GHz
RAM @ 800mhz CL4
GC @ 650/1900/1625 core/mem/shader
It's ready to go!!!
user posted image
Temperature status:(650/1900/1625,OC-ed)
59c idle
84c load
and the result is here:small improvement.
user posted image
Third run of the GC
Quad @ 2.66GHz
RAM @ 800mhz CL4
GC @ 700/2000/1750 core/mem/shader
On the mark!!!
user posted image
Temperature Status:(700/2000/1750,OC-ed)
60c idle
85c load
and the result is here ya!!!
Suprisingly,this Palit 8800GT is not the highly overclockable card as we expeted from Palit,anything beyond 700/2000/1750 cannot pass the 3DMark06,even 705/1005 also failed the test cry.gif
After found out that this Palit 8800GT is not really overclockable,i kinda disappointed.
i chose Palit because i wanna oc kaw kaw,but now only can oc a bit,maybe due to new technology,and they are not yet used to it.
so nevermind,i MAX out everything in order to get the highest score that i can get from the rig.
and now i oc become like this:
QX6700 @ 3.6GHz
RAM @ 960MHz
GC @ 700/2000/1750 core/mem/shader
and teh result is.........MAGNIFICENT!!!! flex.gif flex.gif flex.gif
user posted image
And this is the benchmark for 8800Ultra with :
QX6700 @ 3.7GHz
Asus P5K-Deluxe
OCZ Flex 2*1GB
Western Digital Raptor 36GB
Asus 8800 Ultra @ 684/2268/1647 core/mem/shader
RM920 Palit 8800GT-------------------14949 points
RM2699 Asus 8800Ultra---------------15412 points
Price different:RM1779 sweat.gif
Points in 3dmark06 different:463 points sweat.gif
teh different is only 463 points when both come to oc,and not to mentioned that teh 8800Ultra rig is much more faster than this 8800GT rig,previously i did the 8800Ultra in LYN 3DMark06 database.
and one ultra=3x8800GT and i believe that a single 8800ultra cannot pawn 8800GT in SLi and if u have three PCIE slot,why dont u just put 3 units since their total price is only a single 8800 ultra?
Let's move on to disassemble the GC.
It's time to take off teh heat sink and see what is inside the babe rclxms.gif
take off teh heat sink,the first thing i noticed is,teh core is much smaller than 8800GTS,GTX and Ultra,
but the layout of the ram and chip is almost same,take a look.
The ram of this Palit 8800GT is made by Qimonda,no wonder 2000MHz only sweat.gif
user posted image
next,move to the heat sink,a giant copper base heat sink is located at the middle of teh heat sink fan and there is a lot of thermalpad for the ram chip.
the temperature that i shoed u guys is teh temp that uses stock thermalpaste.
user posted image
Quality of component,as u expected froom Palit,standard quality component,but it looks tidy if arrange like this,just the thermalpad they never cut it nicely. vmad.gif
user posted image
Lastly,the core,G92 exposed and it looks like this,nothing so special,written down made in taiwan and code G92,sorry my camera too suck,cannot zoom and macro it cry.gif
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

So,this is the end of my short review and benchmark and overclock of Palit 8800GT,sorry if my thread is messy,hope those value is useful for u guys.

Nice job. Hope to see that little mascot again next time.... laugh.gif

Don't be too disappointed at the max OC. I think that's the max OC for these 8800 series cards (at stock cooling), although the GT has a new core with the rams supposedly rated at 2 Ghz.....

So what's the retail price? smile.gif

P.S. Ask somebody to sponsor a nice digital camera la..... just make sure you don't torture it too!!! sweat.gif

this is not a messy review lah bro, very nice and understandable though.

looking at the benchies and the price of this card really makes me tempt to buy... aihhhhh, really wondering how it's gonna be like if this turns to SLI mode, must be superb and surely affordable for getting the satisfaction..

very good review and thanks for the result in 3dmark06.....seems that nvidia is throwing the whole price = performance standard to the wind. most GTS, GTX, Ultra owners sure cry now over their expensive investment smile.gif. ati had better have an ace up their sleeve with the upcoming 3800 series.

when's the benchies for the latest games?

anyone can test it with the HR-03?

Thermalright HR-03(not Plus)、V2
Apack GX815、GX810
Zalman VF900、ZV9、VF1000

does that mean we can put in the Arctic Cooling NV Silencer 5?
