EDIT: issue resolved on 26/1. Update here https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...ost&p=109036246

Hi, wondering if anyone can advice.

Last year in June, my car's tail lamp was broken, sent to SC to get quote, was given quote, I said I want to settle via cash. I did consider claiming insurance but decided to go cash route, but purchased my tail lamp from another SC.

My insurance expires in the day after tomorrow, so I was about to renew it online, only to discover that my NCD is at 0% (supposed to be 55%)

I am wondering what went wrong? Did the SC file an insurance claim without me knowing? I did specify that I wanted to settle by cash, but ultimately did not go with them.

I tried contacting my insurance company, but they are closed at this hour and are on holiday tomorrow. Not sure if anyone here has experienced similar issues? I am worried SC submitted a claim. I did not sign anything I did not receive any parts.

What can I do?

Check with them tomorrow. If they cannot give satisfactory answer, report polis.

what does their receipt states when you pay ?...

was there no information of insurance claim?...if not....so, why the reset?.

it's obvious something fishy is happening in the SC....

someone might take your car /photo them...claim the insurance, and charge you the actual fixing price without claim then....

hence, you need them to clarify there is NO insurance claim done from their end, as well as to determine from the insurance company...why.
date/item needs to be specific...before you take any police/legal action.

To clarify, I sourced my tail lamp from normal shop and had them install. Paid in cash, they are not related to the original SC I sent for quotation.

I have whatsapp chat proof that I am not proceeding with insurance claim.

It's a luxury car so the insurance premium is a very high amount, the NCD value is high, hence my anxiety.

I have never claimed motor insurance before, does this process normally involve signing of any documents? Because I obviously did not sign for anything

Try check with few website/provider first.

Sometimes the provider database/connection got issue.

Example, try etiqa shows 0% but then try takaful ikhlas got 55%.

Me last time check at site A shows expired january (wrong) then try site B shows june (correct one).

Can also check ncd at few websites example
https://www.fincrew.my/en/ncd-checker.html or https://www.mycarinfo.com.my/NCDCheck/Online

usually, there is a panel workshop elected to do the work, and there can be a police report if it involves another party with your damage.

even if the workshop/Insurer Agent were to make a claim on your behalf , you should be notify first abt the NCD issue , ie it would become ZERO the following renewal.

speak to your Insurance Agent tomolo morning , and if it fail to resolve it, go make a Police Report abt this issue

That's shocking and leceh. That's why I always renew mine whenever the new quotation is available (usually 1- 2 months before expiry). Also to avoid system cock ups.

Some insurance like Etiqa got the Drive-less-save-more rebate, any disadvantage to renew earlier?

Its weird cos insurance has a minimum claim amount. U cant just claim rm1000 , has to be a certain threshold before they allow to claim but workshop will usually kasi adjust and make damages more so can claim more.

Insurance and road tax can renew 2 months prior.

Don't tell me you are planning to drive a car without a road tax tomorrow?

Anyway I suggest you to go ahead with the renewal first.

Then only claim back from the insurance company once they reinstate your ncd

Yeah ultimately I need the car to be fully insured.

But is it a realistic outcome that they will reimburse the difference?

Yea they will, just like when you claim NCD when you transfer your NCD from a used car to a new car.

Anyway I don’t think you have any choice here. This will likely drag on as the insurance company need time to check the chronology of the case. You cant drive without insurance and road tax.

Issue resolved. Called them this morning 8.30AM to ask what's up, they said will check with supervisor, but supervisor not in office yet.

Due to technical glitch from their part, there was a claim file opened and they cancelled, but the NCD was still locked by them.

12PM got a callback, said to submit proof that the other car I hit i settled outside, sent whatsapp conversation via email. The lady on the phone said it would take 2 weeks for investigations and that I need to purchase at 0% NCD first and claim prorated rebate later.

Full disclosure, I was very anxious over it and I demanded the matter be resolved by today itself or I'd file a complaint. Heard back from them in 30 minutes along with a screenshot that my NCD is 55%.

What a waste of my thaipusam holiday.

Just a suggestion.

Remember to get official letter from current insurer and keep records esp if the screenshot is only insurer's internal records (vs PIAM's master record).

This is because if you when you change new insurer or NCD transfer for buy new car (new insurer may rely on PIAM's master record).

I had to go wild goose chase when I changed insurer.

BTW is this insurer Alxxxz ?
