A 32-year-old man, a resident of Johor Bahru, works in Singapore with a salary ranging from 4000 to 4300 SGD (including overtime and all allowances).

Currently single and not planning to marry, he resides in his johor bahru parents' house where his room is very small.

However, he also rents a room in Singapore because commuting daily between Singapore and Johor Bahru is exhausting.

On his days off,(not every week,it depends ) he returns to his house in Johor Bahru from the rented room in Singapore.

Now that his brother is married, and both his brother and sister-in-law are Singapore permanent residents (PR) living in sister-in-law johor bahru house, his brother plans to buy an HDB flat in Singapore.

This way, he can continue living in the Johor Bahru house since his brother and sister-in-law have no intention of residing at his johor bahru house.

He is considering purchasing a double-storey landed house in a gated and guarded community for around 650k MYR.

Is his decision correct?

SG salary is twice our salary, provided same field of job opportunism.

For example, RM3k jobs in Johor = S$1.7k jobs in Singapore. smile.gif

Yes.

Jb economy is for those malaysians that work in sg.

Deputy Minister of Trade, Investment and Industry Liew Chin Tong told CNA that the federal government was acutely aware of the issue and that it has been vying to drive wages up in the southern state.

"Every morning, tens of thousands of Malaysians on their motorbikes head to Singapore, at 4am, 5am.

They are working in jobs that pay S$2,000. That is partly because in Malaysia, wages are very low… probably a third of the pay they earn in Singapore and in terms of currency conversion, there is a huge gap.

“So it makes a compelling case for ordinary Malaysians to work in Singapore. In Malaysia, we will have to push wages up by attracting higher investment into technology, automation and digitalisation,” said Mr Liew, who is also Member of Parliament for the Iskandar Puteri constituency in Johor.

Correct?

"Everything has become more expensive – from meals to general expenses. Those who live and work in Johor Bahru are facing significant challenges."

"Malaysians working in Johor Bahru receive salaries that are not even comparable to those in Kuala Lumpur."

"Public transport is virtually nonexistent in Johor Bahru."

"It's unfortunate for Malaysians working in Johor Bahru as they have to endure the high cost of food and housing. Prices are driven up because many Malaysians living in Johor Bahru commute to work in Singapore, where salaries are higher."

"Thus, the high cost of food and housing in Johor Bahru disproportionately affects them."
