Hi All Sifus,

Can please advise advise which one of the builds below is more worth? Both are priced at RM4k, quoted by a PC shop.
I don't have gaming requirement but if can I also want a rig that is more future proof abit..thinking to use like 5 years at least. My only top and must have requirement is only QUIET and LOW HEAT.

My activities on a PC are mostly within the internet browser, MS office...My monitor is 4k monitor though.

And, I also know getting separate parts from shopee may be cheaper but I want to save hassle saje so just build from a PC shop la..claim warranty also easier haha. Your advice to improve the build is also appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Don't do gaming but putting in RTX3060 or 4060 for what? Do you plan to do gaming in the future or something? If not just get some XX50 line card, maybe even GTX1650 if can find it.

Also, that Intel system can be upgraded in the future if you ever needed more CPU power. Can swap to a 14th gen Intel while keeping the same mobo. The Ryzen system already end of the line, need a new mobo for Ryzen 7000+

Ditch the liquid cooler, pointless.

Don't buy so expensive GPU if you are not gaming. Buy cheap one or even used one within RM1k and upgrade later if you want to play games.

Buy newer processor/motherboard. AM5 is newest Zen 4 from AMD which means you can use the same motherboard until at least 2025. Last time AM4 to AM5 took 6 years to change. If you buy latest Intel today you will need new motherboard for next year model already, i.e. no upgrade path.

Buy 1tb for your SSD, no diff in price between 500gb and 1tb. Ditch the HDD, waste money only now.

The Kingston NV2 ought to be upgraded to a better SSD
Like Kingston KC3000

Liquid Cooler is just wasting $, get a decent tower air cooler and you'll be fine

And that PSU is in the F tier, replace with something better

You better be careful before you just by a computer without a GPU. Not every CPU has integrated graphics. Both CPUs in your post don't have integrated graphics.

For intel, any CPU that ends with F, like 12400F doesn't have an iGPU. For AMD, iirc only CPUs that end with g will have iGPU, like 5600g.

For office rigs, just pick what you want. DDR5 motherboard and 32GB DDR5 is a lot more expensive for small performance gain.

WOW memang is sifu..I tried to search up all these parts, I think this is just all I need..got iGPU, got built in wifi mobo, and its less than RM3k..Let me try to ask that shop whether he has all these parts

Thanks!

Update: the PC shop has all these parts except for the casing..they dont even have the Tecware Fusion that another Sifu above suggested. Is there anymore nice casing can introduce?

If not gaming and 4K is only for office work & internet, i5-12400 iGPU can support HDMI 4096 x 2160 @ 60Hz (60FPS) so just make sure the CPU has iGPU (no 'F' behind the name). For AM4 the only CPU family with iGPU is with 'G' behind the name. Get these and for your use case, really no need a dedicated GPU.

As for case; Tecware Nexus Air (ATX) or Nexus M2 or Forge (MATX) or else maybe can share here what they actually have.

First off, I'm sorry if I hijack this thread. But rather than opening a new thread, I think maybe I can tap on this and ask for advice as well.

It's time for me to upgrade my PC as well since it's been almost 10 years, most of the parts starts failing. My budget is around 4.5k.

My use case is almost similar to johnsonxray. I'm using it mainly for light gaming, Photoshop and Illustrator stuff. I also download tons of stuff so storage is quite important.

I'm planning to just go Lowyat and get the parts that was recommended in this thread and get them to set it up. The price I got it from C-Zone. If there are better ones please do recommend.

Core i5-14600K - 1459
Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE - 129
MSI B760M-E - 569 (Any difference between B760M-E & B760M-G?, I use LAN mainly so maybe no need for the more expensive Wifi version)
Corsair Vengeance LPX (3600) 32GB - 389 (RM20 difference only, I suppose 3600 is better than 3200)
Samsung 990 Pro 1TB (with Heatsink) - 609
MSI A650BN - 229 (Is Coolmaster 650W MVE Gold recommended? - 399)
Montech Air 1000 Silent - 209

Total:RM3593 (or RM3763 if getting the Coolmaster PSU).

Was thinking to get 2 Seagate Barracuda HDD, so another RM978. Or should I just get external hard disk instead?

Grand total will be RM4571, still within budget. Any idea or suggestions? Thanks in advanced. notworthy.gif

This is my current setup for reference. So any new parts will be a massive upgrade.

When you say failing is that include the GPU? Light gaming but you did not spec in GPU? Or you reusing that GT630, but bear in mind that GPU is no longer supported with driver updates?

Photoshop and Illustrator stuff these days do rely on GPU power so a current GPU will also help to speed up your productivity on top of gaming. Do consider to add this in.

As for the spec;
That mobo has crap VRM for the CPU and it will thermal throttle. Go for the better (but pricier) MSI Pro B760M-A (it may only have the Wifi version)

This mobo also has M2 SSD heatsink so you can forego heatsink version for that 990 Pro, save a few bucks.

If you not getting GPU or even up to a 4060Ti that MSI PSU will do just fine, another option is FSP HV Pro 650W 80+ Bronze. If want peace of mind that Coolermaster MWE Gold is one tier above these 2 so its a bit better in quality.

And why 2 HDD since it will cost more, heat more, and more sound & vibration than a single large HDD.

Thank for your reply. Good points raised for my consideration. I’m really out of touch with the tech stuff in the last ten years, the specs I put there is based on what I read in this forum.

From what I read, the new generation integrated graphics seems to be able to handle things just fine so I opted for a CPU that has that. Not too sure if it is able to handle the applications such as Photoshop or illustrator, hence my question. Alternatively, I could opt for a CPU without the integrated graphic and just get a cheap something like COLORFUL GT 1030 2GB (RM399, C-Zone). Will it be a good idea?

As mentioned, my PC is almost ten years already, a few parts have failed over the years, PSU, MOBO, and recently the HDD. I’m afraid it might no survive until the end of the year. Surprisingly, the GPU still survived after 10 years and RAM is still good. But then it’s really time to get a new one which can last me a few years.

Thanks for the suggestion on the MOBO, will definitely get something better as you suggest.

Ad for the HDD, it is mainly to store files and torrent… critical stuff are backed up on Cloud. Can’t afford to get NAS solution, also should I say that I don’t really have a good understanding how to set it up. Maybe can consider in the future.

Ad for the HDD, it is mainly to store files and torrent… critical stuff are backed up on Cloud. Can’t afford to get NAS solution, also should I say that I don’t really have a good understanding how to set it up. Maybe can consider in the future.

Intel iGPU only good for office work & Quicksync video encoding/streaming, otherwise for gaming it is shit vs Ryzen APU particularly the newly launched 8000G series. I wouldnt reco any of the xx30 GPU for any sort of gaming. Modern games these days demand a lot more but it depends on what you play.

4TB HDD is quite affordable but if your want more perhaps a 8TB HDD will be better than 2x4TB

Thanks for the advice. Perhaps I need to clarify a bit, my version of light gaming mainly consist of some online games (or boardgames that I purchased from Steam), I don't play any 3D games. My son plays mainly Roblox and Minecraft, I suppose the integrated chips or a cheap GPU can handle well. The games works fine on my existing 10 year old PC with GT630 (it was one of the better ones 10 years ago biggrin.gif ). I think any newer GPU in the market now would be a big upgrade, my only concern is the reliability of this COLORFUL brand. Been out of touch, those days I don't think I have heard of this name, if anyone can shed some light it'll be great.

As for the HDD, thanks for the recommendation. Just a noob question (price from Viewnet), NAS 8TB Toshiba - RM799 vs ENTERPRISE SATA 8TB - Toshiba - RM1059... Is it worth paying extra for the Enterprise SATA? My main concern is reliability.

If low end dGPU works for you, I would still suggest get GTX1630 at least. Why? Cuz its newer released last year so you get longer driver support.

NAS stuff better you try ask in NAS tered https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2931469

Imho if reliability is most important which can affect your work, you should only be looking at Enterprise gear and perhaps a branded OEM professional PC.
