BYD Seal Malaysia estimated pricing
According to the chatters within the industry, the price of BYD Seal in Malaysia will be around the region of RM200,000. This means the new EV will compete directly against the Tesla Model 3.

The Seal has previously been sold in several right-hand-drive (RHD) markets such as Singapore, Thailand, Australia, and New Zealand. Based on those markets, we expect that SDM will be offering the new EV in three different variants including the base BYD Seal Dynamic as well as BYD Seal Premium and BYD Seal Performance.

BYD Seal Malaysia specs

Let’s start with the base BYD Seal Dynamic model which is equipped with a single 150kW (201hp) electric motor that also produces 310Nm of torque. This rear-wheel-drive (RWD) variant can go from 0 to 100km/h in 7.5 seconds.

Then BYD Seal Premium variant takes things up a notch by having a more powerful 230kW (309hp) electric motor with 360Nm of torque. The extra firepower helps reduce this variant’s sprint timing to just 5.9 seconds.

Last but not least, there is also the BYD Seal Performance which is the only all-wheel-drive (AWD) variant in the family. This model has a total output of 390kW (523hp) as well as 670Nm of torque and can go from 0 to 100km/h in just 3.8 seconds.

When it comes to battery, BYD has chosen to fit the base Seal Dynamic with a 61.44kWh battery pack. On the other hand, both Seal Premium and Seal Performance are equipped with a much larger 82.56kWh battery pack.

Hence, it is not surprising to see that Seal Dynamic has a much shorter WLTP-rated range of 460km than its higher-end siblings. As a comparison, the Seal Performance model has a range of 520km according to the WLTP standards while the Seal Premium offers a WLTP-rated range of 570km.

Another factor that separates these three Seal variants apart is their charging capabilities. While all three of them come with a 7kW onboard AC charger, the DC charging support for the base Dynamic model maxes out at 110kW – much lower than its Performance and Premium counterparts which can go up to 150kW.

Seal is:

- Faster than Model 3 0–100
- More premium interior fittings than Model 3
- 360 camera instead of rear + LaneWatch-style side cameras
- Actual gear lever easier to do parallel/side parking where you need to go between R and D frequently (some instances of people swiping the screen thinking they went into R but still in D and hitting cars on highland Model 3)
- Actual signal/indicator stalks and not on the steering wheel

For that car I only will pay RM150k because that's already RM40k more than China's starting price of RMB 166,800.

Yea unfortunately some people are brand snobs. I think there'll come a day where the Chinese OEMs are well-regarded in the automotive world. In the past, western countries also looked down at Japanese carmakers when they first entered the scene, and look at where they're at today.

This isn't /k so please keep your snark out of it. The takeaway I got from watching the vid is my own, not Mat Watson's. When he looked at the build quality and how the seats were, the Seal is more comfortable even though the Model 3's seems to be a bit more roomy. Acceleration performance the Seal was a lot quicker off the line but the Model 3 catches on at the end of the quarter mile. For city driving the Seal likely feels a lot snappier despite weighing 200kg or so more.

The only thing I hope is Seal is cheaper than Model 3, but BYD doesn't have the AP-free advantage Tesla has, so they'll likely be priced neck-to-neck here.

Snark? You are the one trying to misrepresent the video. Matt clearly says his conclusion here that Tesla wins, and yet you posted his video and said clearly BYD wins without even having the courtesy to say that's your own personal opinion.

didn't watch the video but was he comparing seal performance and m3 extended range? it will be a fair comparison for acceleration if tesla plan to intro model 3 performance

thumbup.gif all good bro, now back to discussion about car.

Brand is still brand like it or not. Tesla is way more prestigious than BYD. Proton has the same issues since Wira and Waja, 60k can buy full spec Waja/Persona so why spend 80k to buy kosong Vios? T and H brand ma. Like it or not is a very big factor in car buying in Malaysia, otherwise everyone will be happily driving Perodua Axia, Axia already have all the features everyone needs.

Yeah, Chinese brands need a bit more time and some positive track record to improve public perception. Japanese manufacturers used to be looked down upon by American and European carmakers during post-WWII era, but look at where they're at today.

I do think the Chinese brands stand a bit of a chance because unlike ICE where engine and gearbox combination play a huge role (what the Germans are great at), for EVs driving feel more or less feel quite similar, so it's more a matter of suspension and chassis tuning.

A lot of it is patent though, they can't really sell in places like Australia or EU because they violate patents.
Take my X70 as example and the 1.8t engine in it. The engine is carbon copy of VW EA888 engine. It is exactly the same that I can use VW/Audi oil filter for my car. They can sell here and in China no problem because our IP protection is weak and in China the courts will side with China company no matter how bad the violation is (like the Muji case where Muji lost).

In the case of chassis tuning, they are not very good at it. Proton beg them for years to let them tune those X-series cars but they refused. Now only they let Proton tune, otherwise X50 will be lambasted because the original ride was very bad.

Can confirm it is a stupid PITA and simply not ergonomic to use.

I can get the car as early as end of this month as soon as I make up my mind. Funny you should mention 2 month wait for performance. Last night I was at the pre-launch function and almost every BYD salesperson mentioned the performance may be jerky for daily drive and too throttle-happy and may not be comfortable in traffic jams. They all recommended the premium for overall best satisfaction. I thought nothing of it but my brother felt they were bashing the Performance and promoting the Premium - he even guessed that they may have short ordered the Premium and cannot meet demand so they are trying to convert customers to Premium. I was also told privately that they brought in a bunch of Dynamics which they last minute decided not to launch locally because it may kill off Atto3. The price would be 150k plus. In the next few months they will be offering this variant quietly to get rid of ordered stocks of Dynamic.

I booked the car 2 weeks ago, paid 5k. Till now not yet decided to go for long range or performance. Also not decided black or white. When paying deposit, I put as long range white but can change anytime.

Now looking to sell off my 2022 Civic E!

Dude I know this ain't K or finance section but you risk losing alot of money changing cars like changing hand phone. Why not wait a little and gauge the future of EV?

Unfortunately I didn't get to test the 3.8s model sad.gif, however I find the RWD a bit underpowered to my liking. Maybe its the way the accelerator is being tuned, perhaps it isn't a linear pedal response.

If the Dynamic has some stocks here, that one is really a good deal IMO!

OK went to test drive both the Performance and Premium. The Performance was fun but I think soon the novelty of 3.8s will wear off so I went for the Premium in white. Will collect the car day after tomorrow, Saturday afternoon.

Hence why i only tested the Performance version... Premium version acceleration will be just like my current ICE.

3.8s is for when you want it to perform, regular drive just drive normally lah..

I just drove from the showroom to IrisPro and then went home. Had to go to PD....the Seal would have been perfect but had to carry bulky stuff so had to take my 4x4! Just came back today. Probably tomorrow onwards I will get to drive and report back here.

I only installed IrisPro's cheapest tint below rm600 and put on a mirror look tint for the sunroof for additional 200. Not hot at all even without the tint but I did it anyway. I don't believe in ppf and going to extra lengths to take care of the car as I believe the car is supposed to be at your service. Not the other way around.

It's only about 50km (-10%) less range. But with 200 more bhp (+150%)

The seal U doesn't come with performance variant else that would a perfect high performance SUV for people in rural area.

Not everyone's into outside charging. I personally will never ever use public chargers unless I am going on a 600 plus km trip. Looks like my rm800 Gentari vouchers will be collecting dust.

I charge at home. Overnight I have 10 to 12 hours so just trickle charge. I am quite happy with my Seal and for me there is no turning back to ICE. Now looking forward to a BEV 4x4 truck!

based on current ev roadtax... which will be revised lower, and

based on performance model... which if you want 0-100 < 4s, you should rightly pay for it biggrin.gif

How are they expecting everyone to adopt ev if their roadtax is 4 digits.

Lowered powered EV

Waiting and see lol

Don't worry bro, prices will get lower and lower and lower. Batteries have a finite life span, so EV are like perishable goods. If got 9 years old EV stocks, maybe they will even give it away for free to prevent any unfortunate incident at their stock yard later. Now China got so many EV stocks, no place parking EV, millions are sent overseas to park at other countries depot.

What is happening in China, has already began to happen in other countries and it's a matter of time, the same will happen here too.

Wait let me find the EV fire data from a certain country.

The last time I created a thread asking which car park in KL had EV Charging Stations, as I wanted to avoid these car parks. I remember calling my insurance provider and discussing about the Luton car park fires, although I didn't get the information that I wanted but what is certain now, in other countries that have adopted EV as the future BS, insurance premiums are going through the roof because of EVs. Even my insurer don't not provide cover for all EV, only Tesla at the moment. But that will change, if the risks gets to high.

Not to mention, lawsuits are increasing in tandem too. 😊

I don't know mate, if 4'x4' fire blankets are provided EV Charging Stations to be use in case of an EV fire, do you think we are heading in the right direction ? WTF even came up with that dimension ?
