GC like 8800 and 2900 generate tons of heat ...

issit possible to convert them to cooking or boiling ?

Yes you can put frying pan on it. But have to put cpu vertically. Mom also happy.

You could use thermocoupling to reclaim the energy like how RTGs do.

i used my side-panel fan to suck the hot air out directly from my GC parts, to unfreeze food, sometimes ice-cream(when ice-cream too cold, the paper wrap around it r hard to take out, some times stick at there), unfreeze hot dog, or sometimes room too cold then let ur GC run benchmark or torture test, let it generate ton of heat...

Hahaha.. you know... there ARE cheaper and more effective ways to unfreeze your hot dogs rather than drawing another hundred watts running 3dmark to do it. tongue.gif

ya u may tongue.gif , let the hot air flow through some heat receiver or heat generator then convert back to electrical energy. save ur $$

just wonder, gc chips improved a lot nowdays and the die size also decreased a lot. but still using higher wattage and stress PSU a lot. this is different for proc where processing size decreased a long with power usage...

I don't think it is feasible now. Wait for next generation computer parts that generates more heat i.e. not only heatsinks that are needed on GC and CPU AND mobo, but also on harddisk and sound card and DVD-ROM. At that time, you'll probably have enough heat to heat up the whole house...... that is if you're not in the tropics.... whistling.gif

also known as the reverse of Peltier technology... use heat and cold to generate electricity... same principle that long distance some satelites/probes used to generate electricity using nuclear radiation and coldness of space...

large amount of business/corporate servers are located at greenland and other nothern countries for the cold.. conserve energy... but they have not used to generate energy..

Countries like Malaysia can boast solar power generation .. if the gov establish it...

p.s. any record if game on the former highest peak in South East Asia.. G. Kinabalu... use WiMax tech to connect to the internet..

I was thinking of using the heat to regenerate power for the rig but then i realized that it may not be viable in a mid-tower.

Wastes even more power if you ask me.

Yeah....but for all practical reasons, it is worthwhile? Especially true if you lug that thing around to LAN Parties.

well....computer components are getting less efficient due to the wasted energy, ie. heat being produced and released into atmo

well...if u wana use the comp as heater or defrozer, then, that's inefficient too! u wasted the energy to crunch ur graphics card to do 3dmarking that u dont need at all...a 500W heater produces way more heat and inefficient than ur 500W comp running at full cap laugh.gif
