hi all, i got a quote for a basic pc which come with Lexar 2.5" sata ssd NQ100 - 480GB, may i know is this a good brand and reliable?

Lexar is a known brand once owned by Micron USA but sold to China's Longsys long time ago
NQ100 is QLC DRAM-less drive without HMB buffer, that's why it's cheap

better go find other SSDs with DRAM, or if DRAM-less (cheaper), must have HMB

There is a reason why their only giving you a 3 year warranty when decent NVME SSD gives 5 years as standard.

when it comes to data it really depends on your ownself peace of mind
cheap ssd so if u use as primary storage for important pc files then pandan muka la if blow up

me myself use cheap ssd for cctv recordings, once full goes to long term storage HDD

if die die want 2.5" SATA, then Crucial MX500, TLC + DRAM (small 512MB DRAM though), 1TB <RM300

Stay away from Sata SSD. Opt for nvme nowadays.

Can try transcend, it's affordable too.

So many brands and models better than DRAMless trash. Just ignore them.

I've had bad experience with Lexar microSD card, but cant say the same for their SSD. Lexar ssd is not particularly cheap though. For the same money, just get kc3000 or transcend 250h. No brainer really.

Adata S70 Blade or Legend 960. Both without Phison controller.

The price is good though, reliable or not is unknown, even reviews don't have reliability reviews untill the ssd breaks down. But usually China brands should be good. China is home to many tech companies

Stopped reading at this. Too many shabby job if you even bother to read the real user feedback from China, ranges from swapping part without changing model, controller stopping responding, sending different thing to reviewer to closing down company to escape from warranty.

The general rule starts with the mid range and pick from those manufacturers who also make the NAND flash themselves.
Toshiba (Kioxia) - Inventor of flash memory, but not really selling consumer product here in mass amount. More commonly found in OEM machines.
WD - Sandisk (under WD) works with Kioxia in the same manufacturing plant.
Micron - Sells consumer product under Crucial brand
SK Hynix - Bought over Intel's SSD business and rebranded as Solidigm. Still sells it's own product to OEM under SK Hynix though.
Samsung - Typically overpriced for the same amount of thing from other brand.
Kingston - Not a flash manufacturer, but runs a large volume and has a lot of bargain power to flash manufacturers. Does occasionally release some crappy low end products but they do work if the user is just doing ordinary use cases.

SATA :
There isn't much choice for manufacturer to invest in new controller since everybody is moving to NVMe.
First line choices : Kingston KC600 / Crucial MX500.
Second line choices : WD Blue SA510 / Samsung 870 EVO

NVMe :
Plenty of choices but going too high end is pointless since it requires you to have new platform (i.e. PCI-E 5.0) to take advantage of the speed. They also run fast and hot, but in turn you don't really feel the difference with mid range unless you do suiciding amount of data transfer everyday.

First line choices : Kingston KC3000 / WD Black SN850 -> Make sure your board has heatsink for it or just buy the heatsink version if it doesn't interfere with other parts.
Second line choices : WD Blue SN580 -> Low power + low heat version, runs acceptably fine.

Okay you got a point, but not all China brands are bad, Lexar is not a chapalang back lane brand. As long as it doesn't cost an kidney, it's worth a try, if scared China brands then go with Taiwanese brands. Those western brands price are higher Abit.

What people didnt tell you :

1) SSD lifespan only count WRITE operation. Not Read
( other component lifespan still depend build quality )

2) If you are average user, + use cloud storage alot. +

3) You have high amount of RAM

Cheap for a reason. It is scary to think how did they sell something way cheaper than even the original manufacturers themselves.

The Renegrade? An expensive SSD. The board heatsink will be fine.
Pro tip : Just get SN580 and call it a day. Performs identical to high end SSDs on routine tasks.

Upgraded KC3000. Just slightly faster.

Lexar used to be premium CF card manufacturer, now dono, now seems like tom dick and harry can come out own SSD

i have a kingston fury renegade 2TB
it runs cooler than many NVMe SSDs out there due to its graphene heatspreader
other than that virtually no difference (fury renegade has slightly higher peak read speed and TBW on paper, zero real world differences)

no experience on this brand. perhaps it's capable of selling both shit and good products. saw some cheap SSDs from them e.g. Ace A55, those are entry level SSDs identical to NQ100
I've also noticed that sometimes they have 2 different versions for the same model and same capacity
for example, XS70 2TB has a Phison E18 controller + Micron 176-layer TLC NAND, then all the sudden they changed it to an inferior InnoGrit IG5236 + YMTC 128-layer TLC, which performs worse than the Phison + Micron combo and has higher failure rate due to the InnoGrit controller

SP is one of the more recent & capalang Taiwan brands, its only USP is that its dirt cheap compared to others but better than obscure China brands. It also has drives in the insane high capacity, ie 4TB & 8TB.

Why its cheap? Cuz they carefree mix & match parts which can lead to huge difference in performance. Thats the reason why their website refuses to specify what type of controller (or NAND) they are using, or even whether its TLC or QLC.

Of course! Lexar used to be American now they are Chinese owned. Their just milking the Lexar brand name. Stay away from them.

Well. My phones are Chinese oppo realme, my portable ssd are Chinese SSK brand, so far so good for me. Price & performance also good quality
