The funny thing about the way that TM did their "DNS(IP) hijacking" is that it didn't affect the laypeeps who were not using 1111, 8888, 9999, AdGuard, OpenDNS or Cleanbrowsing.

If one was on, say NextDNS, nothing of note has happened.

Digi's and Maxis' port 53 redirection, on the other hand, was much more effective. btw Digi 4G is still redirecting.
*
U Mobile still hijacks well known servers (Cloudflare, Google, Cisco OpenDNS)
Others like Quad9 are unaffected

Celcom (TuneTalk) still has port 53 hijacked entirely

It's a Sunday so I'm still willing to give them some time to undo this...

Interesting. Maybe this piece of info is not so well communicated as they rather push to subscribe internet. If house with elderly parent who doesn't really use the net, means they buta buta pay just to get landline.
*
Yeah, they also suggested Unifi first

after explaining that its just my grandparents living there and there's no use for internet, then they offered this wireless phone plan

granted, I also knew that this plan existed from another relative so I would have asked for said plan if they didn't try to offer it

How much is the plan monthly?
*
Continue paying the same price as whatever you were paying before

(my relative is paying a lot more for some reason that I did not look into)

urrrghhh.... just realised that Android is using DoT, so it will be vulnerable to TM's hijacking.

iOS is using DoH GET, so it's working.
*
Actually, Android Private DNS does support DoH

Problem: it only supports well known servers

those well known servers? Cloudflare and Google only
Never heard any more updates after that

https://security.googleblog.com/2022/07/dns...in-android.html

I personally just use a client like Nebulo or RethinkDNS

Can I get my own ONU or disable remote access to the one tm gave?
I can log into it and see all the details, I can set another one up no problem I think?
*
Depends
You could but you gotta make sure it behaves as expected
For <1Gbps
Get any old Huawei/FiberHome/ZTE (depending on region) that was once given out in the past and configure PLOAM stuff correctly
But if you're looking for 2Gbps solutions, Anime4000 sells configured solutions

Remote Access, they got like 3 ways if it's the D-Link
TR069, OMCI, or the always on IoT Module of the D-Link
On the others they still got those 2 other ways

Thanks for answer brother.
So basically it is not allowed, but if we match settings then they don't know. If I get TM Support to come fix anything, I should swap back to stock modem.

If I disable every TM backdoor on the current modem, or my custom modem, will TM not become suspicious? Or do you guys disable all that?

After the last month, I am disgusted and I need them out of my home network and out of my access to free information.
*
If you want to be completely not reliant on their equipment, then Anime4000's solution is probably the one for you

QUOTE(iCare @ Sep 10 2024, 03:49 PM)
Just want to share some info regarding this matter because I already saw the current internal pdf for the current offer. Some nice and polite TM staff from TM point showed me.

The 300Mbps RM99 (excl. tax) and 1Gbps RM159 (exl. tax) are part of Tier 3 and Tier 4 offer. TM made these Tier 3 & 4 offers specifically to counter offer Maxis or other customer that want to switch to other ISP.
I saw only 300Mbps and 1Gbps on the table for Tier 3 & 4. Other speeds are left blank, means no offer.

I saw some keynotes below the table stated that after 2 years contract finish, The Tier 3 & 4 offers will auto change speed meaning 300Mbps will become 100Mbps for the RM99 (excl. tax) and 1Gbps will become 500Mbps for the RM159 (excl. tax) packages respectively. So that is the catch for Tier 3 & 4.

For the Tier 2, it is the normal SWU we already know about. For example , if 300Mbps RM129 (excl. tax) will be reduce to RM119 (excl. tax). But this Tier 2 package will come with the postpaid Unifi mobile plan RM39 (excl. tax) per month and you have to pay first month whether you want to use it or not and can cancel it after the 1st month. And also includes the free 6 months and new router.

I don't read the whole pdf so I don't know the further difference in detail between Tier 3 and Tier 4. Maybe some TM staff in here can shed some light if they want to expose themselves  tongue.gif

So thats it, choose wisely before making any decision.
*
Fair enough, since I'm pretty sure Maxis's RM99 for 300Mbps promo will increase price after the 2 years

but again, just jump again when contract is over tongue.gif

wow, so .2 is better ka? Block malware.
*
Yeah it's a service to protect from some malware
it is certainly not a replacement for an antivirus

consider also Quad9, 9.9.9.9
they also offer Malware Protection

but personally, adblocking is a better tool at preventing virus in the first place
so, an adblocking dns like Adguard Public DNS is an option

Kind of off-topic, but after the recent DNS incident, I'm trying to find a router that can run a VPN.

So far looking at Ubiquiti Ultra Cloud Gateway. Will probably use my old Archer C9 as a wireless AP. Would that be ok?

I'm guessing no issues running it with TM Unifi?
*
Maybe consider GL-iNET Routers as well? They have an official store on Shopee
Consider the Flint 2

their routers are advertised as VPN routers, supporting OpenVPN and Wireguard, their firmware is based on OpenWRT

Otherwise I think the latest Asus routers also support Wireguard

or there are also other routers that could be flashed to run OpenWRT

But since you've mentioned Ubiquiti, consider Mikrotik as well, though not cheap

Anybody here who is on 1Gbps package can get 999Mbps download speed on speedtest?
*
Ok you mention you got upgraded to 1Gbps
what Modem did you get, is it the black D-Link?

If no, then your modem probably has a max speed of Gigabit Ethernet = 940Mbps max

if yes, and assuming you used Double NAT or Bridge (this mode has a bug of randomly dropping to 300Mbps max) to connect to your TP-Link's 2.5Gig WAN Port

It is mentioned you have a Gigabit Ethernet Port
and the only ports left on the TP-Link are Gigabit as well

so again, 940Mbps max

If you have an advanced high end Wifi 6 client, maybe can pull over the 940Mbps barrier, but hard

anyone knows if Unifi Plus Box can be repurposed with mainstream linux distros? don't want those restrictive distros with limited OS packages.

eager to use it for mapping unsecured DNS from dhcp LAN to secure DNS, through IPsec tunnel..

i don't think Play store have app capable of performing the above intent upon every reboot (after power restore).
*
All I know is the 1st gen Unifi Plus Box is a rebranded Skyworth LEAP S1 with the MicroSD Card Port deleted
powered by an Amlogic S905X2, with 2GB RAM and 8GB of Flash
also rebranded as the MECOOL KM2 and STRONG LEAP S1

There is little info out there beyond like

Does anybody know if the ip redirection is still in place?  When I do ipconfig /all.. the DNS still points to 2001:e68:542f:2d04::1.  The DNS in my router is set to 1.1.1.1
*
that's your IPv6 DNS

Please check IPv6 settings on the router

The ASUS routers that support Wireguard seem to come with a feature that can separate VPN connection from non VPN connection (VPN Fusion), so I might be looking into those more.
*
Just looked into it, interesting

GL-iNet has more simpler options, you can set it for example so some MAC Addresses bypass it
https://docs.gl-inet.com/router/en/4/interf.../vpn_dashboard/

but no "multiple vpn connections for multiple different devices"

I do like the Flint 2 more as a package, but my main issue with it is that the Shopee seller is overseas and not a Shopee Mall certified store.

Mikrotik, Ubiquiti and ASUS are all available locally, making warranty claims much easier in the event of DoA or any other issues.
*
fair enough

it is their official store despite not being mall (ps, shopee preferred/mall sellers have to pay more fees)
and yeah it is coming directly from them from HK so it will take some time
you can see it is linked to from https://www.gl-inet.com/where-to-buy/

Hi Sifu,

I got a TP-Link Deco X50-5G router and im getting my unifi installed soon. They will probably provide me a D-Link router.

Is there any way I can make use of my TP-LINK Deco router? Bridge mode?
*
depends on the plan
if below 1Gbps you may be given skyworth/fiberhome/etc 2 in one

if above then D-Link

all of them should be able to be bridged but there's no proper guide written down properly
have to search the forums for it

if black D-Link, there is a chance of a bug where the speed will drop and get stuck at 300Mbps

after bridge, just setup PPPoE as usual on the Deco

also VLAN may be handled by the 2 in 1, cant remember
so you may need to set no vlan on the deco

Anyone using the 1Gbps Unifi Biz package here?

was told by TM tech last time their 1Gbps need to use some sort of 2in1 device where it will do the authentication there, and won't work in bridge mode from our firewall
I enquired further he also cannot answer

got such case kah? hmm.gif
*
Not sure about business but home Customers get a D-Link DPN-FX3060V

There is a bridge mode but some users face a bug where the speed drops to 300Mbps and never recovers
