So i just changed from maxis fibre to unifi home but my ping is so high ranting.gif

Speedtest with ookla (Maxis) - Below 10 ping
Speedtest with ookla (Unifi) - Around 20 ping

Gaming with Maxis 60-70ms ping only
Gaming with Unifi 80-100ms sometime 200ms

Some people may say the ping is still okay , but as a competitive player it feel so much different ! I am playing FPS game and the movement feels so clumsy and my bullets travel speed slower than before bye.gif

I already filed a report and technician came to my house to check and he say nothing wrong and he cant do anything rclxub.gif doh.gif

Extra info : Now using FiberHome modem provided by Unifi and a Maxis Kaoan AR2140 router. The reason why i use maxis router is because i get more speed from unifi own router sweat.gif

Let me guess, you are using wireless instead of network cable.

Maxis generally has better international routing, even when operating under TM’s infra

Unless you can get TM to fix their routing, nothing much you can do

TM only has good international peering to Asia region, anything beyond is a hit or miss in my experience

Maxis generally has better routing to international services such as NA/EU region

My Valo experience on SG servers says enough about TM’s routing in Asia region whistling.gif

People need to learn the concept of routing instead of making assumptions and thinking that internet is working somehow by magic.

I tested in office before decided to change my home wifi , Unifi in my office working fine and more stable (speedtest below 10ms and game ping 60-80) than my maxis at home and my office is just next Taman to my Taman , so this near can result that routing so bad ? cry.gif

actually u need intel nic gaming mobo + asus gaming router + 2gbps fibre optic connection to play competitive online...(sarcasm)

by using isp provided router to gaming u think the online level of play is very low and the players are trash is it? that may be true but at least have some respect by using at least tplink router

Wot..?

Intel nic yes, but you're not doing sustained data transfer, competitive game is RTT/Ping based, realtek is not good by any stretch of the imagination, but in game, you will not be able to tell most of the time, realtek is bad mostly during sustained workload

"Gaming" router IMHO is just a marketing gimmick, yes a better router can provide better experience in something like gaming. But you can achieve the same results with QoS tweaking, AX55, AX72 can will work just fine
TM's own Fiberhome/ZTE router works decent enough, unless you also have such as other high bandwidth application running in your private network, the measly CPU can handle gaming packets just fine.

Speed isn't the full picture and doesn't determine once in for all for a better gaming experience. You can have a big pipe but if your routing is trash it's the same shit
Imagine if you're using a Mustang running on the highway at 120KM/h, but you're using routes that's NOT the highway, like small roads, detours, you still reach the destination slower.

Only thing I can think of affecting results is CGNAT with Unifi 300Mbps and below, unless TS is using that, it's just TM routing being shit and Maxis routing being more superior

That's partly true. Apart from having better specs to handle higher load, gaming router is mostly better QoS. They handle loaded latency better and have ways to prioritize VOIP so things like Discord will be smooth even when you're gaming.

But once you get to this point, you'll need a pro gamer and a good PC to notice the difference.

However, full-cone NAT does result in slightly better consistency for certain games and that's normally only available on gaming routers.

There is different during ADSL, I confirmed with "TM WiFi", but unifi, no such QoS spotted yet. hmm.gif
As long as the IP range is same, the routing will be the same.

Routing, is that controllable by the end user like us?
If it's not, and somehow affects the speed/ping, people will be having assumption that the internet service is bad...

But unless TS also has other users doing heavy workload on his network it shouldn’t really matter no? Like torrenting, Netflix, etc etc

Yeah, there’s point of diminishing returns, unless you’ve been a pro gamer all your life I doubt that changing to a high end router would make a difference, at most just placebo, that’s assuming if TS is not using TM’s original router lol

Very interesting, never knew about Full Cone NAT, have you personally tried it and compared? Interested to hear a perspective from a user that knows their stuff

Try checking your IP in your router, if it’s 100.x.x, then CGNAT, if not then public IP

If CGNAT, you can maybe rant to TM but that’s basically screaming to a wall
If not CGNAT, you can let TM know and they MIGHT or MIGHT NOT acknowledge it, and that’s bad routing issue

YMMV

No, ISP controls routing, BGP specifically it’s called

TM controls it on their AS network, and they have the final call on what route they choose

You can try to rant to TM but unless it’s a major issue impacting their network, they most likely won’t do shit smile.gif
