Lotus's / Pasar Pagi = B40 ?

People here really think like this? More proud of buying groceries at Jaya/Village Grocer than Lotus's?

Lotus's can easily get fresh vegetable and fruit if shop early, right timing, etc. And also, most important is how the food is prepared and cooked.

NSK variety is quite weird, some common stuff in supermart you don't find it there.

Like example the Gardenia Numee yellow noodle they don't sell one, I like it because it wasn't that salty or u can say less yellow from the Alkaline? Maybe someone can help describe this better. And oddly Laksa Pendek only sold with 1kg size.. I also find myself hard to find fried tofu (not those tofu pok that is sponge like inside)

For the rest of the stuff really cheap but could be too bulky for small household.

Jaya and Village is more convenient.
Better quality fruits. More civilized people. More imported stuff.

I wanted Heinz or Hellman's mayo but lotus got only lady's choice and longkang brand only. Instant noodles also all the rubbish brands/flavours.

I do most of my groceries at Village - espeically the meats and vege. Fresh and good quality.
and no crowd. can shop in peace, no stress.
The price isn't very far off from others.

if not I just go to Aeon. their vege and fish and meat fresh also.

In my life i shopped at NSK twice only.
went there because NSK is nearby my condo dulu dulu.

But cannot lah, the quality of the fresh produce - meat, chicken, fish, vege. cannot.
and i don't even dare to buy the chicken and fish there. the smell and the huge ass lalat sitting on it.

Different "tier" of supermarket will have different brands even though they are selling the same thing.

NSK tier = generic / non-branded
Aeon / Lotuss tier = Well-known brand
Jaya Grocer / B.I.G = Imported Brand

i can shop at jaya grocer at 5pm and the vege still looks fresh to be cooked for dinner.

I hate lotus supermarket. So stupid the management. Really laidback attitude. Casher not many open yet they want to split to cc/cash. The grocery department damn shit the vege berserabak all kena molest kaw kaw. Stay away from the fresh milk, the fridge not properly maintained so if u buy farmfresh type the probability of it going stale damn fucking high. If u want to go u need to make sure u go as soon as they open. Feels like they whole day the staff's job is to place stuff on the isle then they goyang kaki until night.

fruits definitely you can't find the better ones in Lotus. you have to go AEON/Jaya Grocer/Village Grocer.
fresh veggie AEON now can fight their fresh2go range of veg are as cheap and in fact the quality confirm better.
What i hate most in Lotus you can't get quality, clean eggs. they only sell their own range of lotus chicken hence i need to get them from AEON/Jaya most of the time.

Compared price at jaya grocer and wet market which supposingly cheapest and fresher. I'm wrong. The vegetables and fish almost matching jaya grocer's price.

I'm not into organic stuff or Australian milo, Just a regular marketing for cooking ingredients, it's slightly pricier than aeon those, but because I don't have big family to feed, actually not much different.

Actually, go those wet markets are more for T20.....fvcking prices are towards yahudi level these days.

At Penang,
Village Grocer vegetables, meat & fish are higher priced than Jaya Grocer.
Jaya Grocer China potatoes, Holland onions, Aussie carrot, tomatos & non organic fresh vegetables are cheaper than wet market.
Currently these few months JG beef is more expensive Mercato.

Lotuss vegetables are cheap, limited choice but also same pricing as JG & quality is not good.
These days Aeon is better than Lotuss - prices, range & quality.
I feel Lotuss cater to B40?

I shop at Bangsar Village Grocer.. Can say so it's T20 lah.. Even my boss also shops here.. LOL

Seen so many bodyguards and drivers helping the bosses to pack and carry the shopping bags to the Vellfire / Alphard's

I like to shop in Village Grocer because it's so clean and no smell.. No B40 ppl around too

I am surprised no one mentioned Tong Hing Supermarket, someone already mentioned Sunshine

How you guys determine its fresh and better/high quality? What if the supplier is the same???
I can get fresh and high quality meat & vege at Lotus's, need to be picky, check and take. Or, you guys just take and leave the kind of people.

Lotus/NSK is notorious on hygiene issues, that said NSK has the cheapest produce pre gram. only issue with NSK is their vegetables cannot last, last time buy their veges if didnt separate package and store in kitchen towel guaranteed rot within 3 days. Lotus/VG/JG can last 1.5 weeks at least.

however these days most of their vege pricing for Lotus, Bens, VG etc all almost similar for local vege. heck even against local wet market also almost same price

I actually like nsk. Huge section of fresh-looking meat. Dont know about price.

mid tier = localized milo
cheap tier = milo knockoff. no, not vico or ovaltine. is those with green packaging choco malt drink trying to pretend be milo

I tot local milo taste better? Many malaysians bring own milo go overseas because milo there tak sedap.

I hate those groceries store lack of this and that. Problematic for me when i want to shop at 1 go during weekends to restock my cooking ingredients.

So, I don't mind paying more..

I think generally JG and VG have organic items that cater to the T20s but also non organic stuff for M40, but where they really excel I think is hygiene and handling of their perishable products. Just my experience.

I ban hypermarket based on 2 criteria. 1)failed food handling and 2)refrigerant system

Most ppl know which failed under such criterion

I shop in JG (Eco Galleria @ Johor) mainly because they have better non-halal selection, milk-on-tap and possibly better selection of seafood/meat/vege.

However, this doesn't rule out the possibility of me buying seafood/meat/vege from the likes of Econsave/NSK etc.

i go jaya grocer for specialized products, e.g. japanese soba and tsuyu. I find it strange that even aeon doesn't carry those, only jaya has

If the supplier is the same but village/Jaya grocer can keep it presentable and fresh till late evening, saya much about how lotus handles their perishable.

I usually go to Jaya Grocer for the variety of imported fruits and I like their baby vegetables. Supple and easy to clean.

Saying that, seems like the apple variety is much less this year compared to the last few.

I always do that.....buy those imported chips / snacks!

Lotus like drop standard after Tesco sold out and left. CP also like very motivated to enhance the product range and shopping experience.
VG nearest to me of the branded mid/upper tier grocers
I still try to support my local Redtick grocer that doesn’t seem to be doing too well.

Jaya Grocer I actually felt like their standard drop since the rapid expansion. Quality not as top tier as last time. But I still go there since it's convinient and can collect points in Grab

In total if you buy its still very expensive to shop there..I did try once, chicken, few veges and other household items like bread, jem all that add up all came up to RM 170 and this was before covid.. now god bless you lol

JG and VG tbh the veggie and fruits are not that much more expensive. With JG use the 10% off AIA benefit and can save a lot compared to go to NSK or Tesco/Lotus.

Tbh last time used to get Tesco delivery every week but after swap to Lotus with their weird system where cannot add/edit, don't even bother anymore. Never even step foot into a Lotus yet after swap from Tesco. Previously the good thing about Tesco, at the very beginning, is of actual Tesco products from UK. Which all eventually disappear.

If you want expensive probably go to Ben's. Some prices of stuff is dumb af.
