i remember last time when i tested tplink ax10/ax20 the problem i noticed is that when loading 4k video in youtube it somehow cant autoselect 4k resolution always auto up to 2k/1440p only
im using wifi5 2x2 adapter on PC and even having the full link speed of 867mbps and speedtest no issue still have the problem...broadband speed was 100mbps...was running ap mode on top of openwrt router
because of that i vow to never use 2x2 router/access point again...must be at least 3x3 (AC1900/AC1750) which totally doesnt have the issue...even though 4k still not that mainstream not that big of an issue (just need to manually select 4k in youtube)
i wonder those with wifi6 adapter on PC do u experience the same thing?

QUOTE(ionStorm @ Nov 12 2023, 08:47 PM) I’m using a ASUS 2x2. My TV loads 4K on YT and Netflix by default. The problem isn’t 2x2 but how your layout and settings are optimised. do not compare with tv and mobile cause the apps may work slightly differently than the website

QUOTE(asellus @ Nov 12 2023, 10:21 PM) It is common for Youtube website (and not only app) to serve lower resolution videos even when you use Ethernet cable and has high speed Internet. Just this night I watched this video in Firefox and Youtube played the 720p version with my 2.5G LAN-connected PC with TM Unifi fiber, even when I have Youtube Premium and the video has 1080p Enhanced bitrate version. You need something like this if you don't like this Youtube behavior. no once i change to 3x3 or 4x4 access point the problem is gone...technically speaking there is increase of radio sensitivity by the change but even with 2x2 i achieved full link speed but somehow something is preventing from auto selection of 4k

QUOTE(asellus @ Nov 12 2023, 11:12 PM) No, I will still say that it is Youtube problem. Surely a 2.5Gbps LAN connection over 800Mbps Unifi beats any 3 or 4 spatial streams Wifi access point at all times. But if you have proof that Wifi AP with 3 spatial streams can beat a 2.5Gb LAN connection in LAN capacity and also latency then I am all ears. intermittent problem is different than never being able to achieve...a 2x2 setup might never achieve the throughput rate (without buffering) required for 4k by youtube web

QUOTE(toiletwater @ Nov 13 2023, 08:28 AM) App problem. If you use revanced, then you can set default resolution. i know that same with twitch if use custom app only can set mandatory resolution

QUOTE(asellus @ Nov 13 2023, 09:31 AM) YouTube website always has problems, it will almost always serve lower resolution videos regardless of whether you use LAN connection or dual spatial stream Wifi. Have to use custom apps for mobile users or browser extensions for PC users. i totally do not have any issue with youtube other than known problems like some freshly uploaded videos have low res and some videos have problem loading cause not conform with encoding specification...better u doubt urself and ur equipment than doubt youtube

QUOTE(asellus @ Nov 13 2023, 10:58 AM) When YouTube serve me a 720p video when a 1080p version is available, whose fault is that? A. My 2.5G LAN connection plus Unifi 800Mbps? B. The YouTube website itself? try direct pppoe from computer to btu

QUOTE(asellus @ Nov 13 2023, 12:35 PM) Why on earth I want to downgrade from 2.5G Ethernet connection to Gigabit Ethernet? ofcoz just temporary to rule out congestion issue...if ur router qos is crap then u going to blame it on youtube site?

QUOTE(asellus @ Nov 13 2023, 12:54 PM) Mikrotik CCR2004-16G-2S+ is definitely not a crap router. It definitely is better at routing than my computer ever be. u think too highly of mikrotik but to high caliber technical people using mikrotik is actually quite demeaning although understandable if in enterprise environment im using combo of two different types of qos in openwrt...it has worked well for me since started using unifi on 100mbps until now...and i always have high requirements including able to support gaming
