just back from phuket, did withdrawals and use card. foreign transaction fee waived , very good thumbup.gif
but still cash is king there, most of the stalls only accept cash
*
but there will be atm withdrawal fees right? or is that waived as well?

Same thing happened to me with Rize. Tried to open a Rize account, then used GX as first deposit. Weeks later, told me they decided to close my account (even after making a second deposit using a traditional bank (Maybank) as instructed by their CS agents. They didn't give me a reason why, but no doubt it is because of the GX deposit.
*
so does this mean that 1st deposit has to come from "traditional bank" then only the subsequent deposits can come from the likes of GX bank etc?

FYI, GX Bank card linked to Alipay doesn't work in China. You may need to use alternative card like Bigpay/Wise.

Just to be sure, most Auckland food stalls accept Mastercard ya?

I am worried about how much NZD cash to bring there...
*
worst come to worst, you can withdraw cash with the card too.

ANZ Bank: NZD3 ATM fee per withdrawal
BNZ: NZD0
Westpac: NZD0
ASB: NZD6.50 per withdrawal

Wow GX Bank debit card can withdraw cash in Auckland ATMs? blink.gif

FX rate follows Mastercard?
*
as long as the ATM machine accepts Mastercard then can withdraw. can check the rate here, fee put 0 since GX Bank currently don't impose fee for overseas withdrawal https://www.mastercard.com/global/en/person...-converter.html
