Hi,

I wanted to transfer out of maxis to unifi.
Old plan:
30Mbps RM89
New plan from unifi
100Mbps RM89

Got all the transfer form everything, maxis counter me last minute and said we give you same speed with unifi, but price remain at RM89.

Took up their offer.

LAN speed 90+Mbps
WiFi speed on laptop and phone 30-40Mbps. Still using same modem and router from maxis. No change in router.

Anything I should do?

not sure if ur old 30mbps maxis is wifi6 router onot. but I guess it wasn't. max speed u need to test with device with latest wifi antenna.

for 100mbps normally with wifi 5ghz. any modern phone should get 100mbps (wifi 5ghz) speed based on ur current plan.

my plan is maxis 500mbps. lan port old pc can just get 100mbps due to not gigabit lan. but my old pc wifi can get 300mbps from the wifi 5ghz. so I just use wifi for my old pc.
wifi 5ghz on old phone (that don't have wifi6 chipset) can only get up to 300mbps max, but with new phone with wifi 6 can get 500mbps full speed.

every time I detect speed not consistent / too slow I'll call maxis hotline. engineer will come the next day to reset / replace my router.

They told me your old router can support 100mbps. Up to me if want to upgrade new router. I told them no.

Not sur rif it's 2.4ghz or 5ghz.

90 something Mbps sounds like possibly 10/100 Ethernet limitations, or just typical tm intentionally setting the limit a bit lower

30 to 40mbps sounds like wifi 4/wifi n limit

Please provide

Modem model
Router model

for the lan test, open settings and check if its linking at 100Mbps or 1Gbit
for the wifi test, honestly it just sounds like your devices are the limit,
for the laptop, search and open "device manager", open "Network Adapters" tab and provide screenshot
for the phone, can provide model OR search "[phone model] gsmareana", open gsmareana and look at Comms WLAN section

also, use 5Ghz
if your device cannot see 5Ghz, your device's wifi card is too old

Ok. Tomorrow I post.

The free router doesn't perform well especially after few years

Get your own router, they are always better than the free router

Any good recommendation?

100Mbps fibre broadband:
LAN speed 90+Mbps      ---ok
WiFi speed on laptop and phone 30-40Mbps  ---issue

1. do you test speed in another room or wall in between? how far?
draw a layout router and rooms

2. login router 192.168.1.1. check/tweak your WiFi settings.

3. else, maybe need relocate router to a more strategic location

4. last, you need buy a better router

Problem solved I am on 2.4GHz. Lol. That's why speed so slow. Thanks.Change to 5GHz and now getting 93mbps

Modem
Huawei echolife HG8240H5

Router
Tp link archer c5v ver 1.0

I was testing like 5m from the router and upstairs too.

Did you apply the Unifi 100Mbps request first, and Maxis counter offer you with same speed later?
*
Yes. Initially call up maxis customer service. Told them I want to move. If maxis offer me same speed and price I will stay. Customer service said can't offer you. The 100mbps package is only for new customer.

Proceed with transfer request. Walk into TM point and waited 2h just to get transfer request. I heard few people there doing the same thing as well. TM told me to transfer request done but got 10 days validity. Settle all maxis bill and go to maxis centre and being the transfer request paper/email. Then tell maxis you want to transfer out. Up to maxis to approve the transfer out.

So did what TM told me to do. Settle all bill, went to maxis centre. They call some 1800 number and lady over the phone asked me reason for moving. Told them doesn't make sense for me to pay same price to maxis for lower speed. She told me, we will match unifi speed and price. No need to transfer out. Everything remain the same. No need for installation, no new bill, payment all same as before. Only no new modem. I told her your customer service said cannot counter TM offer. She told me I can do it. So took up her offer.
No need sign new contract unless I want new modem. Same speed and price as unifi. Guess maxis losing too many customers biggrin.gif

So let's see next billing cycle what's the price. If maxis keep their word. biggrin.gif

Thanks, so basically you need to go TM point for transfer request first, and settle Maxis bills, then only Maxis panic and counter offer you in last minute after you handover the request paper in Maxis center.

For sure many Maxis old customers are leaving due to RM89 with lower 30Mbps speed. How to fight with same Unifi RM89 100Mbps package. laugh.gif
*
The reason I stayed on was not sure how long will it take for TM to set up unifi and my parents hated TM citing something about TM illegally using our house phone number last time and had to pay expensive phone bill even though we didn't use the phone to make any call.

If maxis keep their word on the pricing, I will remain with maxis. The new pdf which came in my email showed that they moved me to 100mbps package but price at RM129. The person who retained me said the price will be at RM89 next billing cycle (permanent discount unless I upgrade my package or move away from maxis). So let's see next billing cycle.

I am free to move as no new 24 months contract.

I dont understand why we need to go to their office to do the transfer when we can sign up online or over the phone. Are they purposely making it difficult to change provider?
*
You can do online. But slower. Faster = walk in. That's what TM customer service told me.
