We have so many Chinese phone brands in the market now:

(Oppo-Vivo-Realme-Oneplus) All under the BBK umbrella
Honor
Xiaomi
Huawei, albeit without Google services

Strictly in terms of overall reliability, how do these brands fare?

Reason why they are selling well and more brands popping out like mushroom since Xiaomi era means they are pretty acceptable and usable to affordable group.

Durability, quality of screens, cameras, speakers, some processors on par with samsung flagships or using flagship snapdragon chips. Just the implementation in software i think samsung is still better. For example foldable phones, samsung multi screen and multi tasking is much better and use of hinge/flex function is better. Cameras, sometimes processing in china phones not on par with samsung and apple, also software despite the sensor is good. of course google integration is too good to pass.. unless you're living in china.

TBH i only have experience from youtube reviews and some friends phones. I wouldnt call it problem la just not as refined and polished as samsung. Then software support, some phones no support/update after 1-2 years. Nowadays getting better i think.

Been using OnePlus since 1 and upgraded to 3, 5 and eventually 7. Pretty reliable and good actually.

Certainly better than Samsung any time. Cheap Samsung often has GPS lock problems and expensive ones has ghost touch problems.

I eventually replaced my Galaxy Note 10+ with Nothing 1 last month. So much better and zero ghost touches or GPS lock problems.

Will I go back to Samsung? Never!

After 7, Carl Pei moved to Nothing.

TS,

If you knew the best iPhone are all made in China, why are you questioning made in china phones? If you can pay price they want, you will get what you want.

what software issues bro? I know they have a lot of bloatware. Especially for newer phones like S23, which took 60gb to install them.

I've been using Xiaomi phones since 2018. Nothing wrong with them at all, they function exactly like how I would expect a phone to function.

been using Xiaomi phone since their 1st model and till now. So far everything is ok la. never had any major hardware issue.

Software wise, after 1,2 year they abandon the phone model without any latest update dy. Community support is very strong especially Xiaomi.EU ROM. You can always use their ROM which remove bloatware and some of the MIUI ads crap.

Wow. Loyal MIUI fan. Impressive!

But custom ROM of course ler.. not everyone can do it.

I like Lineage on Xiaomi phones.. the only thing I hate is can't pass Safety Net

Please don't recommend other ROMs or Magisk. sweat.gif

Xiaomi is #1 in hardware.
Samsung is #1 in software.

So if had to pick, I would go for Samsung too.

I think ads can be turned off if you're in global ROM

IF you have the money.....go for Flagship Samsung o Iphone....what else there for general consumer? European brand? American Brand? Only Chinese brand that caters not just for Asia, but even Europe! Nokia , Alcatel never been seen in mass consumer market...Even Taiwanese HTC nowhere to be seen....

Worse still Samsung midrange and top spec models. Every single model has either battery problems or ghost touches.

Most reliable for me is still the OnePlus 1 to 8. After that, questionable. Might splurge on the Nothing 1 for fun.

I'm using honor x9b for now. So far so good. Will update if got any problem or issue

RRP is RM1,499. But with celcom 12month contracts with RM80/m postpaid, only pay RM599.

If take 24month contracts, phone price is RM299. celcom really buang harga

Realme GT Neo 5 series totally owned & pawned Samsung A series & M Series in terms of quality & specs.

Oppo Find X6 Pro is as good as S22U or S23U.

Xiaomi MI 11 ultra has one of the best cameras & 4K video recording I have seen among Android & iPhone.

I have used a couple of Chinese mobile phones and had trouble with the battery timing for both sets. I then switched back to Samsung that seems to be the best options when it comes to Android mobile phones.

Xiaomi Mi 11 – Faulty Wi-Fi/Bluetooth & Blurry Camera Issues

My Xiaomi Mi 11 started having serious issues after nearly 2 years of use. The Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chip failed, and the main camera became blurry after about a year, despite the lens being completely scratch-free. (This blurry camera issue seems to be a known problem with the Mi 11 series.)

Thankfully, the phone was still under warranty. However, I nearly got scammed by Xiaomi Malaysia when they attempted to replace my Mi 11 with a Mi 11T — a clear downgrade in terms of features and performance.

I pushed back and made it clear that there were only three fair options:

1. Replace my unit with the same model (which wasn't feasible as the Mi 11 was already discontinued),
2. Offer an upgrade to a newer model — ideally the Mi 12 (Mi 13 had already been released by then),
3. Provide a full refund.

After going back and forth with Xiaomi Malaysia and receiving no meaningful update, I filed a complaint with KPDNHEP.

A few hours after submitting the report, I got a call from Xiaomi Malaysia — they agreed to issue a full refund. The money was credited to my bank account within 7 working days.

Lesson learned: never again.

Xiaomi quality is kinda hit or miss

There are quite a few "lemon" models that just die like the very famous Poco X3 PMIC issue that just results in them dropping dead

It's a bit of a gamble really

is all abt the cost, sometimes

3 phones cost RM1.2k each is worth 1 phone that cost RM3.6K. and who knows what spec you are having for that 3.6K phone.

but a latest RM1.2K phone, buy every 2 years would gave you nice spec...most importantly, not scare of losing/spoil/fat battery. I got to buy 1 every 2 years
Reliability? meh...few of mine last 3-5 years. and i buy becoz i feel like upgrading nia

The only fucking Chinese phone I hated is Asus Padfone. Fucking screen just refused to register any touches after a year or two. Been through Mi3, Redmi Note 3, realme 6, realme gt neo 3 and all working for years without much problem. Maybe update wise is slightly lacking with sub RM1000 model.

I found big brands durability is better even both using corning gorilla glass. Which is weird. China phone has alot of gimmick things like face beautification that overly done. The spec we get on the list seems better but the one not on the list always have cut cost. For example the speaker was never on par with samsung, they exclude hardware mhl that project screen using usb, their usb port is cheap sound driver bad and do not support many network bands.

I think reliability is not an issue. I have a Xiaomi Note10. Screen koyak about 2 years ago, order a screen replacement from China via Shopee. Very good quality, really as good as Ori. I fixed it myself. Till today still working and I pass it to my kid to use. 4 yrs at least.

I think Honor and BBK (Oppo/Vivo/OP....) brands are good. Xiaomi can be iffy because of lemon models and are generally ok if you know how to debloat and tune settings and keep an eye on things, a slightly higher failure rate overall.

Xiaomi had a bad time when displays had ghost touch/input lag problems, I think during the time of Pocophone F1. Updates didn't completely fix things. Software wise Xiaomi is also behind Honor/BBK, their updates break things more often but it cheaper so can be worth the hassle.
