2025 Model Y launched in Malaysia

Just a day after the 2025 Tesla Model Y ‘Project Juniper’ facelift was sighted without camouflage, the refreshed iteration of the American EV maker’s SUV model has now been shown on the official Tesla website, with the brand’s Malaysian website showing the model as available for order, priced from RM195,450.

The 2025 Tesla Model Y Juniper at a glance:

Rear-Wheel Drive – RM195,450
Long Range All-Wheel Drive – RM242,450

Exterior colours:
Stealth Grey – no added cost
Pearl White Multi-Coat – RM5,000
Glacier Blue – RM7,500
Quicksilver – RM11,000
Ultra Red – RM11,000

Design & Exterior:
Sleeker Styling
The "New Model Y" features a more streamlined and coupe-like silhouette with a well-designed exterior emphasizing clean and seamless lines.

Rear LED Lights
The taillights are redesigned with an "afterburner" effect, featuring a glowing LED strip under a dark-tinted cluster.

Tesla Lettering
The traditional "T" emblem is replaced with "Tesla" lettering, and the updated Model Y doesn't carry a badge on its nose in most markets.

Tailgate
The tailgate features a cleaner design, reminiscent of the Tesla Cybercab, and extends to the more prominent rear bumper, reducing panel gaps.

Length Increase
The length of the crossover has increased by 41 mm (1.6 inches).

New Alloy Designs
New alloy wheel designs have been added.

Light Bar
A light bar has been added, giving the car a Cybertruck vibe.

Interior:
Comfort and Features
The seats are comfier and are now ventilated, and the dash design has been updated.

Indicator Stalk Return
The indicator stalk has returned in place of buttons on the steering wheel.

Interior Design
The interior design is almost identical to the new Model 3.

2023 Model Y china version has new improvement.

✅ New ambient light
✅ New dashboard material
✅ New sports rim in black colour same 19" Size

The most important is the WLTP has increase from 480km to 554km ✅
That's 15% increase in range, which is hugely improvement.

BTW
Malaysia Model Y why so late one?

New model Y would be Juniper. Rumours said it is facelift at end of 2024.
I wanted that ventilated seats badly, the most difference you can feel in overall.

That 554km is quoted in CLTC which is unrealistic. Not mistaken previous CLTC was 545km. Okay la, just some really minor bump. Not sure what sorcery they did, when the weight has increased slightly by 2kg lol.

Fulfilling backlog? I can't understand though.
Other countries waiting period only 2-8weeks. Why we need 20weeks though?

And why they can fulfill Model 3 Highlander priority when Model 3 production are way more later?

One of the most important improvement is actually the faster 0-100 for RWD, now at 5.9s.

Again, not sure what sorcery when Model Y is faster than the refreshed Model 3 (at 6.1s) lol

I gladly welcome the white dashboard with ambient light, cos the wood felt so out of place.

And the black wheel caps too, finally.

Hope these updates carry over from LHD to RHD and the Malaysian Model Y in timely manner.

As I understood it, he said China is fulfilling the orders for the entire region, and there's a backlog to fulfill existing orders. So Malaysian orders are added to the back of the queue.

M3 on the other hand, Malaysian orders are in along with the rest of the region. So the first orders can get them earlier.

Firstly, I didn't mention about roundabout. 2ndly, to me it's just a learning curve to get used to it. Just like from Nokia 3310 to iPhone, let's move on.

I think it won't go wrong even at the roundabout by putting the turn left signal when entering as u will exit at some point sooner or later

Doable, as I said, all it takes is a learning curve, I believe we will get used to it, just like how we are tying on virtual keyboard now without looking at it vs Nokia 3310 physical keypad or BlackBerry physical keyboard.

SA told him delivery around March.

Personally I'll wait for Juniper refresh, which should come this year too.

Feb 10 (Reuters) - Tesla Inc (TSLA.O), opens new tab has temporarily cut prices of some of its Model Y cars in the U.S. until Feb. 29, less than a month after the carmaker cut Model Y prices in Germany. Tesla reduced prices for its Model Y rear-wheel drive and Model Y Long Range by $1,000 to $42,990 and $47,990 respectively, representing a discount of 2.3% and 2% from previous prices. Prices of the Model Y Performance variant and other models remained unchanged, according to the website.

New Model Y rear-wheel drive and Long Range model prices will be reduced for deliveries now through Feb. 29, Tesla said in a notice on its website, adding that that price would increase by $1,000 or more on March 1. Tesla slashed prices of its Model Y cars in Germany last month, after most of its car production at its Berlin factory was suspended due to a lack of components after attacks in the Red Sea caused shipping disruptions.

In January, Tesla also warned of "notably lower" sales growth this year as it focuses on the production of its next-generation electric vehicle, code-named "Redwood." The latest price cuts are expected to further weigh on Tesla' margins, already hurt by a price war that started more than a year ago. The latest price cuts come as Tesla is bracing for cooling demand and rising competition with a growing number of inexpensive EVs, such as those made by China's BYD (002594.SZ), opens new tab, which overtook Tesla as the world's top EV maker in the final quarter of 2023.

In another sign of cooling EV demand, rental firm Hertz Global Holdings (HTZ.O), opens new tab in January said it was selling about 20,000 electric vehicles, including Teslas, from its U.S. fleet and opting for gas-powered vehicles due to higher expenses related to collision and damage for EVs.

Tesla shares are down 22.1% so far this year.

Jiker 7X 800volt architecture.

+ faster charging 360-450kwh dc and 22kwh ac
+ massage seat
+ fridge centre console

- heavier than Y juniper. Std range already 2300kg.
- less efficient range than Teslas

Anyhow the 7x starting price in motherland is rm140-145k.
I was suprised they willing to sell onlyRm182k here.

For such a low markup LHD convert to RHD. Low volume sales some more.

I just worried once officially launch here many features gonna be strip down just like what happened to Zeekr X. AC charger kena dumb down from 22kw to 7kw for the base model.

Finger cross until the actual malaysia unit come here. Until
Now the spec sheet cant be confirmed. Lets see what specs and gadget they omitted from the motherland unit.

Im guessing things that will be missing:

- centre fridge
- massage chair
- entertainment pad for backseat
- backseat auto sunshade
- AC 22kw drop to 11kw

Lol

Knowing the tax exemption for EV is ending this year, definitely going to get one. But question is Model Y, S7 or Z7x?

Hmmm, decisions decisions decisions. Guess wait 7x launch first then only think.

Just get the LR if budget permits. The difference in sound quality is day and night. Don't forget that you are getting the extra range, horsepower and AWD too!

Will there be any price cut soon like what they did for m3? Or at least lower interest rate? I'm just holding on, in case it comes up soon...

SA rushing to close sales and hit target... 😀😀😀 So won't ask you to wait... But I choose to wait and see a while more.. If Elon decide to give some discounts I will be very heartbroken to miss it... 😭😭 But also want to enjoy the tax relief by end of 2025...

Usually if got price cut will depends on what the competition do.
If Zeekr 7x and Sealion engage in price war, Tesla will have no choice but to slash.

Cannot book online, it has to be done by the sales advisor at their sales office. If you have a sales contact, can text them to check availability first. Good luck!

Other than the badges, sill plate.

For standard range, just puddle light and vegan suede instead of clothes at dashboard and doors.
In addition for long-range, acceleration boost.

If not mistaken, US market starts to introduce vegan suede as add-on at 250 USD.

will the mod void warranty?

I dont feel the difference to upgrade to LR other than the speakers. The range of RWD is ok for me. Performance is not important.

Just if got nice sound will be good.

The price difference (RM47k) between the Model Y's LR and SR is indeed a bit steeper compared to the price difference (RM29k) between the Model 3's LR and SR. Ultimately, I bought the Model 3 LR over the SR because it was a no-brainer to have better range, power, audio, faster DC charging speed and of course the AWD capability for just RM29k.

Going with Etiqa Takaful since cheapest. We send cancellation of previous car and refund of premium took 3 days to credit back which is surprisingly efficient. Previous car with Etiqa for 16 yrs no claim whatever

I got same quote as well from etiqa. I asked tesla how much to insured for windscreen, they advised between 5k to 10k.

You direct call to cancel the existing insurance? need to provide jpj termination letter?

Same thinking except i like the model y design now

I am driving suv now but unsure if i should go back to sedan although i dont have family yet. M3 awd has better acceleration or model y rwd with better looking but lesser range. Hmm

I like the rear design of the new Model Y but prefer the front of the Model 3. As for the question of going for SUV or sedan it's the matter of personal preference or need. For me, even if I'm going to have a family in the near future, I would still get a sedan over SUV mainly because of sedan's better & more agile handling as well as having a sleeker look.

Decision decision:

Model 3 LR: Paying a 15k premium for better range, performance, handling, audio system, AWD capability and faster DC charging speed

Model Y SR: Saving 15k for your preferred look and better driving vision, cabin & storage spaces and some other new improvements made by Tesla like the front bumper camera, frunk's drain hole and improved heat rejection glass roof

Do you always use fast charge?

I heard SA say RWD battery can full charge to 100% while AWD is only 80%.

in the end the different also very little.

RWD using LFP and AWD using NMC battery.

LFP batteries can be charged to 100% without significantly impacting their lifespan, unlike NMC batteries.

Ooooo
Because I often see reviewer / owners for LR always also 80%.
Therefore the range really not huge difference for Juniper current models.

Still deciding hahahaha. Nice car, nice design and I am ok with bare minimal interior. But still attracted China EVs got to offer for the interior.

But based on experience it will take months eventually get bored over all the things inside. I guess long run doesn’t matter hahahaha

Initially I also thinking of sealion, g6 and zeeker 7x. After comparing the weight, tyres size, branding, spare parts and car maintenance then I choose tesla for lower maintenance costs.

for the facelift model, the weight is 1921 kg as compared to comparable models (2400kg). how is tesla did it so light ?
i am thinking of cancel zeekr 7x now. also in consideration is G6 facelift.
the downside with tesla model Y is non adjustable energy recovery ?

You meant the regenerative braking / one pedal drive?
You can choose between standard (one pedal) or reduced (more like a ICE car) for the new Model Y . SA can let you experience with test drive

i see this is good news, the old model does not allow that. also may I know vegan leather is as good as PU Leather?

if after 10 years or more the seats start to tear, is it possible to replace the ventilated seats with pure leather ?

Never driven EV or Tesla before.

When I tried on standard it’s really difficult to drive. With the new reduced mode is much better but still huge difference compared to ICE. Perhaps will take awhile to adjust to standard mode.

Just takes 20mins and I felt the fun of single paddle drive.

Last night I charged it till 93% and sentry mode is always on.
My wife car drove less than 5km this morning and is parked.
I checked the battery now status shown 83%, dropped 10%. Is this normal?
I turn off the auto climate as well.

Sentry mode + morning routine drive, i guess it's normal.
Can try google sentry mode consuming, a lot people complain about it laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

Close the sentry mode if you're parking at home, maybe can active when parking outdoors.

Turning on the sentry mode typically drains around 5-6% of the battery per day plus a short distance drive is always not efficient so I guess it's normal. Tesla has promised to reduce sentry mode's excessive power consumption in the next updates but there isn't a concrete date just yet.

Question on wall connector.. house is single phase running on 63amp at db with solar.

Installer recommended 10mm cable, upgrade 100amp fuse at tnb meter, with MCB RCCB etc all that in additional db box. So he claimed I can still set or charge at 32amp. Is this safe?

At night house runs on 3 airconds

yay, does it have any caveats? eg how the APR works
in this case it make sense to take the longest loan, eg 9 yr or 7yr
