Which Home Automation (Alexa, Google Home, Xiaomi, etc) you use or plan to use?

I have fragmented smart devices, like smart curtain xiaomi china, xiaomi cctv global version, google home nest hub...

So difficult to integrate all under 1 roof.

also Alexa now using LLM, a lot smarter than google home. Xiaomi Xiao-Ai also using LLM soon.

What do you use?
knives.

A lot of devices can now connect to Siri, Alexa or Google Assistant. But Google Home has the advantage of a script editor now. Haven't tried it personally but seems nice.

Just use homeassistant to integrate all with any voice assistant.
The best ones are always the devices that don't require cloud and fully local
Look what happened to certain brand that just died making their devices useless

More headache with the official tuya integration on HA, randomly go offline and stuff
switched to custom firmware and no more issues since

Easier way you just grab the zigbee stuff, and not wifi version

Yes I have home assistant running zigbee and wifi based devices.
Mostly sonoff, some tuya, some ikea zigbee switches, running ZHA and Zigbee2mqtt.

Tuya can also work but it is cloud based so I chose to use Sonoff and ewelink compatible devices instead.

I don't understand what you mean by market availability cause shopee have tonnes of Sonoff products.

Once you have home assistant you can do more advance stuff like facial recognition and all.

Currently using Alexa and Google home.
Alexa as the main assistant while google is the backup in the event where Amazon servers are down.

Of course, ultimate goal is to localised everything.
I got an older mini form factor PC in my storeroom (also acts as a cheap server) for home assistant, but I am just really lazy to migrate all the setup I've done on Tuya/smartlife/Xiaomi devices over.

Apple HomeKit + Google home.

HomeKit have the best latency from Siri (command to action for scene take less than 1 second) while Google home for backup.

I use Aqara door lock, Aqara hub and Aqara switches and it support both Google home and HomeKit. One HomePod mini for HomeKit hub in living room and Google home in bedroom.

Voice command for Google home tends to have 5-7 seconds delay while HomeKit is instant. HomeKit is localized, Google home is cloud based.

Siri suck at queries but when it comes to home command, miles ahead of Google.

Can use Frigate NVR addon in home assistant for people detection and send an alert through your phone through the Home Assistant app. Everything is programmable , you just need the skills to write the automation script for it.

Neutral to power the switch.

But nowadays without neutral they can still power the switch via some magic trick that I am not going to explain because I am electrical engineer and you are not.

Obviously neutral is best but your house lighting switch no neutral one.

Just buy without neutral and without need for capacitor. Don't buy the one that need capacitor. You will regret.

Search for "without neutral" + " without capacitor."

Alexa echo show got built-in zigbee hub support, not sure if it works with tuya one.

Also, say I install 3-gang zigbee, 3-gang zigbee, 2-gang zigbee.

I can all connect to the zigbee hub right and give each unique label? Noob here.

I scared Amazon hub is for Amazon only

You can install 100 switch and name it differently. All using same hub.

We’re talking about Aqara not xiaomi itself. Aqara is a sub business that’s more focused on non china. I think xiaomi also have global version and we should get that one instead of china version.

Yeah generally more expensive but less than 100 can get https://s.lazada.com.my/s.6EeEe.

2 years ago I research on tuya for home assistant before but seems a lot of work while Aqara more plug and play so I jumped on Aqara to avoid spending too much time setting stuff up. Mostly on switches only. Also I think tuya not so much HomeKit support back then until fairly recently.

I’m open to all brand but I’m not your target audience to convince since I’m just sharing my experience here lol.

At the time I was doing research I found Aqara has better support for Apple (for my voice command on phone) with everything localised for quick response time + door lock integration + flexibility for Google home (for Google assistant) and that’s how I decide to spend my money to reduce time spent tweaking stuff.

If tuya can localise everything plug and play, with integration with Siri and Google Assistant without any extra work then I’d happily go with it. Unfortunately Tuya is cloud based and need to waste time to tweak for HA.

I care more about the performance and ease of use instead of brand loyalty. Whichever fits my purpose I go for it.

Aqara so far is best for plug and play and future proof. It currently supports matter and automations run locally meaning even with wifi disconnected or whole router off, the automations still will run. So far tuya haven't support matter yet, nobody want to build the matter bridge for tuya.

FYI I'm android user, I have aqara and tuya and xiaomi devices, my voice assistant is Google assistant and my matter controller is the Google nest mini

what you guys use for automation?

curtain? switches? lights?

Lampu, Switches and Aircond. TV, Dishwasher and Washer-Dryer also is connected but just monitoring. And my LG water filter is connected just because it can lol.

For lampu I pair with movement sensor sebab wife complaint don't like to keep saying to Google to open lights. Then ada additional automation to on and off certain lights at certain time. I also have a smart button installed in bed to manually control light for bedroom (shortpress) and entire home (longpress) if needed.

My aircond usually on pakai voice command but for off I letak auto off living room AC at 1 AM and auto off bedroom AC at 4 am. Fans semua auto off at 5, sebab kalau tak bini aku tak bangun tido after I go gym.

I also use one smart switch to automate my wife punya candle warmer, so every 3 hours it will turn on for 1 hour to keep the house scented.

2 cara
- if your fan xde IR remote, then you kena replace switch to the fan to be smart switch.
- if your fan ada IR remote, you can buy IR Remote Box that can be paired with Smart Home and the app will handle automation from there.

IR remote difficult, since got 2 fans in living/dining area. Both fans will be on and off at the same time, got 1 xiao ai IR smart speaker, I can use it to control aircond but it will turn on/off both aircond at the same time.

So looking at smart switch instead.

Oh yeah I forgot my robot vacuum. brows.gif

Lampu I pakai Yeelight, and Smart Switch for Bed I pakai Mi Smart Switch. The one for candle warmer I pakai Tuya.

For automation I pakai Xiaomi Home, esp yang involved movement sensor or time based.
For IR Box related device I guna Smart Home.
For Samsung Aircond, Washer and TV naturally Samsung Smart Devices app.

All linked to Google Home for voice command. And yes I have a Greek Gods theme going with the device names lol.

It depends on how many device and how complex you want it to be.. If want it simple, get a hub eg tunya, zigbee..

But if you want more compatibility, more integrations and no need to go back to the same brand.. Home assistant.

However home assistant will require self setting up and configurations.

Anyone knows why my Xiaomi Roidmi Eve Plus Vaccum bot works well in Xiaomi App, but it wont show in Google Home even after I linked both. Other devices in Xiaomi App all show in Google Home and working perfectly.

Hi all, just wana ask. Anyone bought google nest? Are you able to make and receive calls on google duo on the nest?

I want to buy a device that can be a home assistant and at the same time be used by my kids and helper to contact us in case of emergency.

We cant give the phone to the helper as they are not supposed to use phones during work and also the kids do not know how to make calls on the phone.
