My simple Mecool KM2 just died.
- I liked the KM2 because I can easily view YouTube, and download legal local TV app from Google Play Store. I never watched Netflix or Amazon.
- I didn't like the KM2 because somehow I couldn't connect my External USB HDD to it to watch my video files. (Tried 2 different HDDs, not matter what format I formatted my USB hdd to, the KM2 can't read them. Super weird.)

Need a TV Box that can:
1) Watch YouTube
2) Connect/read External USB HDD
3) Fast enough (no need super fast. Just fast enough), and not too laggy.

Which should I be looking at?

bolded - that is ultra weird indeed. Possibly u did not install a player app like mx or Vlc properly as the box may not hv a native player.

android boxes are already 15 years old, very mature, many hv died, not much demand.

becos most new TVs now come with androidtv or googletv, easy to use; plenty streaming apps; u can play most HDD at USB port too.

but if u really want a box, i recommend u ZIDOO. i have one, very happy with it, plays everything, google apps incl youtube work well.

What do u mean just died? Could it be the power adapter?

If it’s the box then perhaps KM2 Plus should be good for most uses

My KM9 still running well

that's right , i dont see any reason to upgrade the tv if the tv box can give additional features to the tv itself

I dont think so, A tv box can cost as much as SG$200 and a 32 inch tv cost slightly more with a console screen for you to watch and at the same time can be beam to your old tv and work like a box too. If future when your old tv is ready to be change to a smart tv, this small tv can be use as as a spare or can also be use as a monitor.

The only different is a smart tv dont come with the built in iptv and vod app.

i bought a non certified android tv box for rm189 which already included iptv ( local and international channels ) and vod without monthly fees , the provider updated their servers almost daily , so far so good , i've been using it for my home studio so that i wont disturb any of my family members watching tv at living hall

plus here in malaysia you can even buy the id for only rm79 if im not mistaken

well bought it thru tik tok shop malaysia , it's called smart ip , but now the price already increased to rm200++ , somehow i think still worth it

However powerful it maybe. Why do people want to get tv box?
The basic reason is to watch IPTV and VOD.
So without a good iptv and vod app to serve them the box however powerful is just a box.
Now a day, their are so many device that you could watch Netflix, Disney, Amazon and many mainstream provider.
What make a different if one can watch it free from the tv box.

My parents is currently using LongTV which its lags/buffer all the time.

Since they bought new Samsung Smart TV, is there any apps or other brands tv box that can stream above channels?

DIY iptv have what you want. LongTV is it android and can sideload apk into the box

Samsung smart TV i dont think is android or google tv so can only installed from their playstore
one app is Ott player which u need m3u playlist

If you do have an old PC can repurpose to be a TV box using x86 os.
