the tuner for the 4100 should be the same as 6500. by the way, does the tuner has a card slot? like for the astro thing?

Added on August 30, 2008, 3:37 pmgonna go and pick up the m6500A.....any concern using the WD 1TB green power HDD in it? other choice are seagate and samsung

Added on August 31, 2008, 5:13 amquick question, for the firmware upgrade, i just create the folder on the HDD and copy the firmware to the folder and run setup?

also, anyone has setup this thing in similar config like following? not sure how this would work

TVIX and another network device (eg PS3) to a switch, then to the home network, the other end is a WLAN router before the pc.

how is the setup like? are there any other hardware needed?

the newer abigs has HDMI output. my 1 year old abigs has a DVI-HDMI cable.

my plan is to link everything via LAN. there's HDD in the media players and the PC is upstairs with more HDD. so the plan is just to be able to transfer files over the LAN , dont really need it to stream.

i noticed there's a 1Gbps connection available on the M6500A....then again, my wlan router is not gigabit.

well, i still need to get all the devices connected via LAN before anything happens.....

stream or not, that's next question...for the time being....transferring the files into the internal HDD seems most stable...at least to me.....

rx330...how is your setup like?

tvix, you need to buy the HDD separately.

i dont think you can download anything directly with the TVIX...

sorry, i ter-rampas rx330's question

its warm without the thing switched on....yes, i've read abt the overheating on the earlier version because without the HDD, the fan's air flow is not forced into the right direction....anyway, i have an internal HDD in my unit.

read on another forum that the M6500A with the power plugged in is only on standby mode and it draws about 2W of power...hence the warmth.

finally managed to get my tvix to stream the files from my pc.

DVD files and even blu ray files are streaming smoothly....and i dont have a gigabit network.....limitation being my wlan router.

now i am wondering what to do with my internal HDD...hehehe

anyway, tried looking up how to use the FTP (file transfer protocol).....google for a free FTP client....download the little bugger. and you can use it to manage the files on your TVIX's HDD (using your pc interface) via the LAN. I am currently using this thing called coreftp. check wikipedia for a ftp listing, you want to get one that can support large file size transfer. my 4.XGB file folder takes about 15mins over the LAN....which is too slow....it averaged abt 4Mbps.

what you'd need to enter on the ftp client is the host (the IP address of your TVIX) and the userid and password. all these you can get from the setup menu of your tvix.

now i am scratching my head, why my abigs is not seeing my pc....quarreled with the pc?

Added on September 9, 2008, 2:21 pmoh about the warm tvix.......i am not sure if its a good thing....the fella over at the other forum said he keep the tvix unplugged when not in use.

the TVIX streams via wired LAN. wouldnt recommend wireless with the TVIX. 1st you'd need to find out which wireless device would work with the TVIX...i think DVICO website only list 1 or 2 brands. and it only support WEP encryption.

yeah but you can only use WEP encryption on your wifi setup...which would make your network quite vulnerable.

so far i have only tried 1 BD50 and 1 BD25 over the lan.......i am not sure what is exact reason, but it could be due to the file size?? the BD50 has a 45GB file.....the other has one single 22GB file

the BD50 is Godfather 2...audio is Dolby 5.1
BD25 has a 2.0 audio....some nature program...hehehe

bitrate..i didnt check.

this dlink is probably the cheapest NAS available out there.....

benefit of NAS...you can even access your file on the NAS via internet...this mean access anywhere...

Added on October 20, 2008, 1:42 amRM428......dammit...can someone send me a unit please?? i am seeing prices at around 150euro

think file transfer btwn NAS and pc shouldnt need the FTP.

ftp is just a small freeware you can get from the net. there are plenty out there. it was alien to me till i connected my tvix to the pc via LAN.

on the TVIX there's a userid and pswd which you'd need to put in your FTP program. then its just 2 windows where you can transfer files. one will show your HDD, the other will show your TVIX.

Added on October 20, 2008, 1:19 pmthat dlink is gigabit capable...i think.....tvix m6500 at least has the gigabit option.......then again, there are many other things which will limit the transfer rate. i am on a 100M line only.....because of the router and the pc ethernet card limitation. anyway...4.X Mbytes/s is about the max i can go on my setup.

i've tried transferring files while streaming another as well...the transfer rate dropped but it didnt affect the streaming....so that is good..hehe

Added on October 20, 2008, 1:21 pmby the way....wireless is usually limited to 54Mbps....unless you have one of those gaming router which is 108M and there are those gigabit wlan router as well.
