I'm currently using google desktop.. true it is a great piece of program but there is a few weakness that ive notice's: *no standalone desktop environment(have to use browser)
*tend to slow my computer startup rolleyes.gif
*search result really GOOgle like( which mean is sort by relevance; sometimes what ive been searching is buried by tons of other result
*and it also sometimes crashed

therefore here i would like to ask any of other desktop search software user(X1,copernic,windows desktop search)
*how is the performance of the program
*do it use a lot of comp resource?

for now i'll stick with google desktop but maybe switch to windows desktop search as i like the way it integrate into many program hmm.gif

ps:for those who dont know any of software above and want to know about it here da link

Google Desktop

Copernic Desktop search

I tried both Google Desktop and Coppernic before. But I prefer Coppernic because it is not browser based. In terms of resources, I didn't notice any performance issue while using this two desktop search. IIRC, the Google Desktop doesn't update the index as often as Coppernice. ie: If I moved my file, GDesktop will still display the old location while Coppernic will usually display the latest location.

Since I'm switched to Vista, I'm currently using the built-in desktop search function which perform pretty good.

I have Vista thus I use the built-in one. Although only for start menu items and items in home directory though.

While I'm still with XP, I tried both Google Desktop and Windows Desktop Search. Both are bad enough to make me uninstall them.

The one in Vista does not really take much CPU/disk activity unlike the ones in XP.

I used to use Copernic Agent. BUT, It failed to work on my Old Win 98 Rig. It will just hang indefinitely...

Google Desktop worked on my Old Rig, BUT it was VERY SLOW...

I no longer use any of these programs, though I might try again. smile.gif

Cheers!

Apologies for digging up an old thread but the info/update on this thread is a year old and new releases come out all the time, I would like to get new information for a good desktop search engine.

I had tried Google Desktop Search, Copernic and X1.
X1 seems to be the all rounder here, but its abit memory intensive and keep hanging on me at times.

Anyone have been using these utilities and care to comment abit?
