I am still on VDSL 50 Mbps with no contract. Is the best deal I can get SWU 3.0 300 Mbps at RM 99 a month with 6 months free and 2 free Mesh routers?

They called to offer a change to fibre with free installation as there are ports available where I am. I also got the SMS and email for free speed upgrade.

So if I take up the offer, and still keep 50 Mbps, I am guessing I will be upgraded to 300 Mbps with 6 months free as part of the SWU 3.0. At least that is what I have read here. Some guys even got 500 Mbps.

Is this correct?

Am currently on RM 99 50 Mbps VDSL and got the SMS and email that I am entitled to a free speed upgrade. I went to the Unifi Store in KLCC and requested an order for fibre installation. They told me that I didn't need to recontract fpr a speed upgrade. But they didn't know what speed I will be upgraded to. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Alternatively, I can opt for the SWU 3.0 package and pay RM 119 per month for 500 Mbps with 6 months free and 2 MESH routers.

I had read here previously that folk in my position got to stay with their current RM99 plan and got a free speed upgrade to 300 Mbps. This is what I would prefer. Can anyone who got this deal corroborate that?

Which SWU 3.0 did you switch to?

I worked out the cost and if I switch to the 500 Mbps at RM 119 per month with 6 months free, the total cost over the contract period of 24 months is RM 2142.

If I stay with the 300 Mbps at RM 99 per month and no free months, the cost over 24 months is RM 2376. So there is a cost saving of RM 234 for the period of 24 months if I switch, which translates to another 11.7 months where both packages cost the same after the contract ends.

So it would appear that 500 Mbps at RM 119 per month is a better or equivalent deal with a higher speed for the next 2-3 years unless something else comes along during the contract period.

Is there SWU 3.0 300 Mbps? How much is it?

I was told at Unifi Centre only SWU 3.0 500 Mbps upgrade to 800 Mbps for 1 year with 2 free routers.

I am currently on RM99 50 Mbps. Just got fibre connected on Friday. I would prefer SWU 3.0 at 300 Mbps if it is the same price of RM99.

Yes, there is a free upgrade but unless I re-contract, there isn't free 6 months. I cannot re-contract for RM 99 for 300 Mbps but can at RM 119 for 500 Mbps like most of the folk here. With the free 6 months, the RM 119 for 500 Mbps works out to be a better offer because over 24 months there is a cost saving of RM 234. The RM 234 works out to be another 11.7 month buffer where both packages are equivalent cost wise after the initial 24 month period. In any case, can probably re-contract after 24 months for a better offer.

What is the other brand of router they provide? TP Link? Is that better? I was told Fibre Home was Wi Fi 6 but TP Link was Wi Fi 5 so the Fibre Home was better performance wise.

Went to the KLCC Unifi Centre. SWU 3.0 is still available as someone else posted earlier.

They showed me the packages. There isn't a 500 Mbps package with an upgrade to 800 Mbps for 1 year for RM 119 as some folk posted earlier.

RM 119 was for 300 Mbps with a perpetual upgrade to 500 Mbps.

What is Unifi Special Discount RM 130 (in Package 4) and RM 160 (in Package 5)?

Basically he quoted me the equivalents of Package Nos. 4 & 5 but no mention of STD20 and the Unifi Special Discounts. There was a 6 month fee waiver, 600 mins of free calls and the MESH Wi Fi 6 routers.

So to clarify, there isn't a 500 Mbps package for RM 119 per month that gets upgraded to 800 Mbps for a year and then returns to 500 Mbps thereafter correct?

That is about the same price I paid for the AC86u some years back.

Are the improved specs efficacious if I am only going for the 500 Mbps package?

My devices are mostly from pre Wi Fi 6 days.

Yes, need thumbprint unless your mother has a letter that certifies that her thumbprint is not readable as is the case for some old folk

I just had the Unifi people come and switch my package over to 500 Mbps. However, my Asus 86u seems to be capping the speeds at 100 Mbps.

When they used the Fibrehome router connections to local servers were fine but to overseas servers were only around 5 Mbps download and about 50 Mbps for uploads which was really strange. The installer said he had done his job as all TM was concerned about was speed to local servers.

Has anyone experienced this and what was the fix?

It's really strange. To the Digital Nasional Server, the results are download 76.39 Mbps, upload 86.36 Mbps

TM server gives 134.26 Mbps download, 94.92 Mbps upload

My Mac says the Tx rate is 260 Mbps on the 5GHz spectrum. The Asus router page says WAN is capable of 1 Gbps.

Any ideas if my router settings are wrong?

So I stick a notebook to one of the LAN ports and see if I can get 500 Mbps and if so then it is my router settings that is the issue - I just wonder what it could be.

I will need to borrow a notebook from someone as my computers are too large and far away to lug.

Actually, I realise I do not need to do that. The AC 86u has a speedtest function and my download speed to local servers exceed the 500 Mbps like you say. Upload is 114.42.

So I guess the issue is with my settings.

How to troubleshoot and see what is wrong?
