I need some advice on owning a cat at condominium. I never had any pet before and I have zero experience. My kids want to adopt cats but my concern is that we live at higher floor condominium and I m afraid the cat will climb the balcony or window and fall off. Are there any cat owners in this forum who live at the condo? How do you ensure the safety of the cat?

They are kept open during the day while I m at home. I close when I go out. My kids don't go near the windows, so it doesn't pose danger to them. I heard that the cats like to climb on things and that's why I was worried and wanted to ask advise from someone who keeps cats cat condos or apartments. Do I need to keep my windows closed at all times or need to install grill before owning a cat?

If there's a ledge beyond your window which your cat can land on and explore, it's best to not open the window or have a mesh covering it. Cats are curious creatures and they will explore every nook and cranny at home. I had my cat climbing out of the window once to the outside where the AC compressor is at. I thank god that there's ample space for me t o climb out else i would have to call the bomba. from that day onwards, we are very careful on how big we open the window. If you need to, maybe place bottles along the window sill if possible. That leaves them no space to climb or stand. They will not attempt to climb out then.

Keep your windows shut, or have mesh installed to prevent them from escaping. I personally open my windows just a little for ventilation, but my cat can’t reach the windows so it’s fine.
You could also try to keep stuff away from the windows to minimise the chances that the cat will climb up to the window.
