Hi Sifu,

What's the benefit of relocating TNB meter at the gate pillar?

My understanding is to ease the officer to read the electricity usage for billing purpose and also easier for officer to check or troubleshoot if any issues reported since it's located outside of the house.

But now they are introducing the smart meter, whereby they can read the electricity usage remotely.

Currently house under renovation, would like to get some infomation to make decision whether it's a need or good to have the tnb meter placed at the gate pillar.

Thanks!

i once like this idea.
as per stated. easier for the meter reader.
no need to use monocular to peek (old time)
no need come into house compound (older time)
but nowadays its smart meter.

another cons is the loss. (perhaps not so significant)
after meter any loss is considered billable.
the distance from meter (gate) into the house (main DB) will cause some loss. cable length and size matters

Very much depend on site - especially the location of the nearest TNB pole to lay the cable to the pillar.

Here is the quotation
Cabling from pole to gate pillar (mine is just in front of my house) - TNB Contractor $1,250
Cabling from pillar to DB (underground) - Electrician $2,500 (mine i need to re-tile carporch, otherwise more cost on digging and tiling)

I was told, if the nearest pole is opposite road, then will be more costly as they will have dig the road underground to lay the cable to your house.

Anyway, I will not proceed with this as it does not give any much benefit.
