EEE 900 model No WiMax, GPS or touchscreen, only with the multi-touch trackpad, looks not so good...maybe there will be another model with touch screen, GPS & WiMax but expensive price.

i would recommend the "KM Player", use less CPU power and resource. can play high bitrate rmvb file, > 850kbps.

i got the webam port connector, but it's very small, too hard to solder with my skill, maybe people who good in repair handphone knows and got the special soldering tool to solder on it.

QUOTE(toughnut @ Apr 2 2008, 09:08 AM)

what type of 'glue'? smile.gif sound like something very useful for any type of soldering mod. i would like to know. if possible, if you have free time, upload a picture let us know how is it look like. smile.gif

I found the perfect solution for soldering w/o 1337 skills. At work now so no pictures...

There's this paste thingy... comes in a stringe... like glue... so just use it to stick things together... Add heat = instant solder.

It's silver based.

consider it's a laptop with less CPU power (about pentium 3 900mhz cpu) and with smaller SSD capacity and smaller screen. whatever software you can run on the laptop, as long as within the eeepc cpu power, the eeepc can run also it.

QUOTE(xander @ Apr 2 2008, 06:01 PM)
hi all,

i was jus wondering wat this asus model could do hu?

it can surf the web i guess... lol

is it possbile to use microsoft office in it?

interesting item. where you bought it? it's looks like a japanese product. btw, after solder, can it sustain after long period of time? i worry it will melt or loose after long period of high temperature.

QUOTE(sniper on the roof @ Apr 2 2008, 09:33 PM)
Here's the pic.. bloody hell, spent ~RM40 on this tongue.gif

Also bought sh1tloads of connectors today... hopefully these fits.

someone already soldered a CF to IDE on the eeepc, using the CF card as flash HDD for eeepc.

High speed CF card can achieve about 45MB per second constantly, about 0.5ms access time, which is faster than lot's of hdd access time which are about > 10ms access time.

QUOTE(xeNOS @ Apr 4 2008, 01:19 PM)
but wont it slow the speed down...? cos CF cards arent that fast rite ?

it depends. smile.gif there are a few categories. you can get the info from the internet. slower speed about 26MB/s read, medium speed about 100MB/s Read/Write, Super Fast NAND flash about 200MB/s read 100MB/s Write. but the price will be about USD3000 or more for a mere 32GB of data. smile.gif that is current market price, not sure maybe tomorrow will be price drop. biggrin.gif

QUOTE(xeNOS @ Apr 4 2008, 07:16 PM)
ic.. but this is still slower than a real SSD rite ?

from the price of EEEPC about RM1300 to RM1500, you can estimated which categories of the eeepc SSD. high speed SSD will cost a bomb.

QUOTE(xeNOS @ Apr 4 2008, 11:14 PM)
oh... ic.. so which category is the eee ssd using ?

from what i got from the internet, 2nd is still using celeron, but slower speed 800mhz only. only the later version. maybe 3rd generation will use the Atom processor, well, more power saving, but performance almost same as 900Mhz celeron.

just learnt a new trick from internet, it might be already known by members here, for those who installed their eeepc with Windows XP, you can actually turn your screen in to 4 different angle. by press on Ctrl+Alt+Arrow key, you can turn 90% 180% 270% aand turn back to original angle.

read from internet, proc still the same celeron 900Mhz. only 3rd generation EEEPC will use Atom, maybe this June or September? biggrin.gif who knows? Asus keeps on producing new EEEPC generation, released new generation of EEEPC in just a few months time.

normal laptop can't beat the weight and size of EEEPC. that's the EEEPC selling point.
