Cause oracle likely has a lot of low level hacks for some of its code (features, fixes, etc), which means that virtualizing it isn't so straight forward.

Franky, OracleDB is an old dinosaur. I do currently have work in it, but would be glad to never have to touch it again.

During the intel era, this was true. Cause you can get a MBP, have bootcamp for pure windows env, or easily virtualise. The base env of macOS is unix based, so most of the unix tools work out of the box.

When they moved to their own arm based cpus, a lot of compatiblity break. Rosetta is pretty awesome, but devs sure suffer as you go lower level tech stacks.

PostfreSQL has bitmap indexes.

Nowadays got many services providing postgreSQL as service also, so you don't even have to maintain the version or hardware.



Luckily we have dedicated DBAs for more tedious stuff. Its still a PITA db to work on, feels like using some pre-svn version control vs git

Got sucks meh? I use tableplus and I love it for many DBs. Even can connect to oracle.

Personally i think this sort of strictness is actually good
