Quite like the idea of NRIC and both of their sovereignty wealth fund managements invested rather carefully

And i feel like our equivalent of NRIC is Petronas, which is a terrible idea lol

By sharing such story and looking at his behaviour nowadays, shows that Sg is really in big trouble and it will be tough for them in this incoming years....and even more after the Thai canal has been completed

Let them enjoy their short golden age era for now

Even back in 90s their leader has set up a mechanism which has 2 person to unlock the reserve, one is PM and another one is president. But in Malaysia the PM and MOF has absolute power to dictate Khazanah fate.

Until now the Singapore did not disclose how much reserve they have, scare kena speculator attack.

Thai canal has been in discussion for centuries. It won't happen for sure. If you look at the 2 canals (Suez and panama), it shortens the route by thousands of KM and time by at least days.
The cost to built that thing vs the benefit that you gain is just too minimal. that also havent include the separatist movement on southern thai.

Got many reasons for Sg to collapse.

But Thai canal is a joke. Will Thailand willingly cut its country into 2 for an uneconomical project or to satisfy China??

To add-on, China also done enough assessment to decide to invest ECRL in Malaysia, as a backup in case ada sanction. So if Thai going to build that canal, why bother to even do ECRL

dont to speculate its the fact SG have more than US$1 Trillion in Cash and asset. biggrin.gif
how can the world 3rd or 4th largest financial centre doesnt have more than US$1 Trillion, a joke rite? Those money shielded SG Economy from Crisis and the pandemic. Can even lend indonesia money in the Asian Economic Crisis and aid the region financially if they ask.
This documentary really goes to show how powerful and well managed she is. Confident booster for the local and FDI.

Its a good vid. Solves a big mystery for me.

Always wondered why land sales not counted in sinkie government revenue. Future sinkie PM explain this is captured as reserve. he say reserve is used to fund land reclamation (not captured as budget expense). Hence, land sales isn't captured as revenue.

What not stated is difference between cost of cheap sand for reclamation vs high revenue from land sales (RM58 Billion for FY 2023). Just for illustration, Sinkie land sale revenue is almost as big as Bolehland's development budget.

Just another reason why sinkie reserves every year grow.

i think they wanna hide the sales of land into government book, maintain the budget and keep the reserve expanding. The reserve also can be use on HDB to build affording housing.

I am really fascinating on how Singapore government design on the whole system, to prevent future politician tap into the reserve and utilize all.

Some portions of the reserves are known..

Foreign Exchange Reserves: USD $340+ billion
Government of Singapore Investment Corporation or GIC: USD $770+ billion
Temasek Holdings: USD $ 495+ billion
CPF: USD $400+ to $500+ billion (*more of pension fund unlike GIC or Temasek)

+ others e.g. Sg Govt consolidated fund.

Easily USD $2 trillion or more.

i seriously worry malaysia is in really big trouble...

we spend so much time worrying about others, and cooking up stories and conspiracies to make them look bad...

we are blind to the huge tsunami facing us.

all the corruption, religious tension, racial polarisation...
the rapid depreciation of ringgit, the rising inflation....
the unstable political situation, the rapid change of government....
the potholes on roads, the state of MRT/LRT/KLIA aerotrain....
our falling education standards, our low university rankings globally....
struggling with MYR1.5 trillion debt....

yet we pretend all is fine here...while millions have migrated, and hundreds of thousands queue at causeway to slave away at jobs in SG....

They are not exactly scared... more like, come try if you dare and we shall see who is the bigger fish.

They are consistently winning when it comes to the projects they win on, some fails and failed terribly. However the wins that they had, they invested/saved prudently. Honestly, with the amount of Singaporean investment abroad, that is the biggest weapon that they have.

An attack on Singaporean owned assets in Malaysia, eg is an attack on Malaysia. Multiply that for all the countries that it actively trade and also invest in.... basically, no one will slap themselves on the face, because Singapore is on the face of every country in the world.

George Soros- if he try to wack Singapore currency .... Singapore have the ability to hit back where George Soros money is at, and they can make him feel the heat.

Petronas paid a total of RM 537 billion dividend to the government since 2005. If Malaysia has the foresight of Norway or Singapore, Malaysia would have had a large sovereign wealth fund that is way bigger than today's Khazanah Nasional.

Thai canal easier said than done. Which is why until now is just talk only.

Cost and logistics aside, there is genuine concern that the geographical divide will further encourage the insurgents over in Patani.

Anyway, China is busy now with the Pinglu Canal. That needs to complete and be successful first before China even thinks about starting on Kra. No one else is intetested in funding and commiting the resources to this.

Unlikely. Southern Thailand is one of the worlds terrorist hotspots.

Shipping needs insurance. The costs to shipping alone will exveed the costs of the current routes.
