I've lived in Skudai since 1995. That's almost 30 years. I've seen the growth and death of malls around JB first hand.

I only visited Skudai Parade once for the bowling back in early 2000s. It was the closest mall to UTM campus, but the design is too 1980s, did not have a lot of activity spaces. The location should've been an advantage because it was at the Skudai intersection, but they did not manage to capitalize on that. The pandemic simply killed such malls, same way it killed U Mall, Holiday Plaza, Danga City Mall and a few others.

Sutera Mall brilliantly survived despite the pandemic. They keep on pushing for events and activities one after another. Almost every week have new things going on. Sometime children competitions, shows, comic events, etc. So people come every week, which is good for business.

Plaza Tasek should've died long ago because of its location and its poor design. But the new renovated wing injected new life, with bigger space, rooms for activites, lots of tempat mabuk2 and a happening night life in the immediate surrounding.

Now with bigger malls offering new things in JB like Paradigm Mall, Toppen/Ikea, Midvalley as well as the revamped Kotaraya, Komtar and City Square, malls that couldn't adapt simply perish.
