Just out of curiosity, I noticed several different brands of evaporated milk (unsweetened version) doesnt mention calcium or magnesium in their nutrients list. Why is that?

because it's susu Sajat
on a serious note, food these days are so heavily processed with high heat and chemicals to the point that all the natural nutrients in the products are either altered or gone, and then artificially added back after the processing. |

Most evaporated 'milk' in the market today cannot be legally defined as milk, hence you'll see evaporated creamer, evaporated sweetened creamer, etc. As far as I am aware, only ideal is milk, and for sweetened milk last time is f&n, but I can't find it anymore.. these are usually the most expensive product on the shelf. For those kopitiam, you are actually consuming palm oil.. gg health. Murcielago_ liked this post

There used to be different types too like evaporated creamer and evaporated milk.
I forgot which one has more fillers like palm oil and all. Usually the cheaper ones? |

Why is that? If you want healthier option in Evaporated milk get the EM without minyak kepala sawit... For reference: https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/evapor...ition#nutrition I did check few brand and managed to get 1 brand in 99 but always sold out... You can notice the fully EM are different with those EM with added palm oil.. You can try IDEAL which can found in 99. Now days without reading the label.. you really no idea what you actually eat...... https://www.google.com/search?q=ideal+evapo...qxz_kvM&vssid=l |

QUOTE(RigerZ @ Aug 12 2023, 12:36 AM) If you see the word "creamer", regardless how it is ultimate labelled, it's already mixed with "palm-based milk" (did i term it correctly). I cannot imagine myself drinking palm oil. I personally avoid them for my household. I used to scan the label, but now I already have a few label that I know is real milk."Evaporated/condensed" milk, if i understand correctly, are milk that have their water content taken out. not sure if it's totally dried out or very thick liquidity. long time ago, this helped to can(ned) it smaller, ship the milk farther, lengthen the time before it spoils, and less weight incurred during transport. Then you "filled" it with water again to somewhat regain it's original liquidity. I believe "reconstituted" is when additional vitamin/minerals are added as well for a well-rounded nutricious milk (think for kids in the old days lah, not current rocket decade.) That's why those condensed milk or whatever always carry warning: not for 6mth old and below, in case got any parents think it's substitute for proper formula milk.
