Japan’s largest automaker, Toyota Motor, is laying off workers in China as the company struggles to keep up in the world’s biggest EV market.

Toyota struggles to keep up with the intense competition in China’s auto market, which is undergoing a significant shift towards EVs. The joint venture’s factory, which employs approximately 19,000 workers, produces various models, including Toyota’s first EV, the bZ4X, as well as the Camry and Levin models.

Toyota has been counting on its electric vehicle (EV) models to revive sales in China, which fell 9% in the first six months. The company joined a price war started by Tesla in January and slashed the starting price for its bZ4X EV by 15% in February.

End of EV for Toyota Malaysia or will they bring in the bZ4X for a lower pricing?

This you can blame the highest Management thinking against EV cars.

Now too late

Due to them, people get lay off.

They should have brought the BZ4X, new Prius here before the ATTO3 to catch the market. Now a bit susah already since the price range does not favor them.
I suggest Toyota Malaysia keep only selling Vios, Yaris Cross and Hilux while downsizing until outdated and end of business here.

If u worked in Japanese companies, you will realise that their top management people have dinosaur mentality.

Don’t want to embrace latest trends etc.

Zaman kegemilangan Japanese products already overr

Many years ago when there were articles about BYD being the sole public transport EV providers seemes like nothing. Then when they announed their first electric car, that caught investors attention. TESLA may be #1 on innovation and all that. But BYD is still sales king even if their interface is not as high tech as TESLAs. BYD is the Toyota of China.
