Newest saga im not sure, but i use to drive a 2014 saga flx sv, if compare to persona, then persona much more better compare to saga.

I heard the latest persona further improve the cvt, not much jerking and much faster response.

Dunno why still got people say Saga is CVT tranny.... Saga already using 4AT since 2019. Even 2023 version using Aisin 4AT. I had the 2008 Saga BLM (4AT) and acceleration all is great after a few exhaust modifications. That time, I was using 15" rim with Michelin Pilot Sport 3 (which has great grip) and the car still can move fast. Served 12 years with zero issues other than engine oil leaking due to wear and tear. The car do has its downside (i.e. NVH and the infamous sagat, in addition seats using bad cloth material) but for the price its negligible.

Downfall starts when they released this FL and FLX with CVT until 2018 and practically all the complaints on the transmission flood like no tomorrow.

Persona's power is okay due to higher cc but mind you, Campro engines fc is on the higher side even for a 1.3L. Imagine having a 1.6L above campro. But least you get a better chassis, NVH, and ride comfort and safety features.

If really your budget is around 40k, new Saga should be enough to have a peace of mind. 2nd hand japanese cars could be a pain in the arse as you will need to reserve another 4-5k for suspension and engine weartear parts - even if you get a well maintained model....

Personally I think Persona should have the highest seating among these list + tall headroom even at rear seat.

The driver seat is adjustable so it can be lifted as well, being tall driver, the seat immediate to your back will have small leg room due to Persona came with really wide seat that support your thigh for all passengers.

Some car have visually spacious leg room because they shortened the seat, imagine 10cm short in front + back seat will give u extra 20cm in leg room.

I believe 3rd gen Saga (2019 to 2022) is using the same gearbox as the 1st gen Saga, but may be wrong about it. It is this year the gearbox is from other supplier, so nobody knows the reliability, but its Aisin so I think nothing much will go wrong.

2nd generation has the worst tranny, but has better suspension than the 1st. Not to say CVT got big issues as cars is always about the quality of maintenance, but its known those that abuses their Proton CVT tend to face problems more frequently... Maybe the gearbox itself ain't as durable as the traditional 4at? I dunno.

If I buy 2nd hand also, I'd prefer cars with 4at over cvt too.

If the front driver lifts the seat to a higher position, it should create more legroom for the passengers seated behind because the driver's seat takes up more vertical space rather than horizontal space.

As the driver's seat is raised, it allows for additional legroom for the rear passengers.

Do you means this?

Oh sorry to confuse you, the lifting have nothing to do with leg room at the rear,

Because the nature of you being tall you will adjust the seat backward which somehow reduces legroom for back seat.
I believe Persona should be no.1 or no.2 in your list to have smallest leg room for rear seat.

Front seat lifted or not, the rear passenger still can tuck their feet under the seat unless they wore tall shoes, then raising the seat gives a bit more room.

Many buyers of Proton cars have happy families and kids.

I understand that people have different preferences when it comes to cars.

Proton and Perodua both have their strengths and appeal to different individuals.

Let's focus on discussing the pros and cons of each car brand rather than making assumptions about someone's personal life based on their choice of car.

You should go and try a sitting position before deciding one of them, if you tall over 185 like uncle those 4 out of my options, because i need to constantly moving my head left right up and down all blind spot, a good vehicle should cover your eye view like widescreen minimal eye and head movement needed , is like if you too short don't die die ride a high height motorcycles

Now, what I know is that the Proton Persona's driver and passenger back seating is quite suitable for someone who is 180cm tall.

I will try sitting in it on August 12th to see how comfortable it is.

If you are fine living without reverse camera, only 2 pcs speakers, physical key, non-fold rear seat & non touchscreen radio, you may go for standard.
Anyway the headunit, speaker & reverse camera can be added later probably within RM2k

Personally I would either take Standard or Premium because mid spec price Vs full spec only 5k, I would rather get full if I can afford exec.

For 2nd hand I think Standard would do just well, because premium of that time may not have that much of wow factor compare to current offering.

All you need to do is budget about RM2k for a better headunit with Android Auto/Carplay, speaker upgrade and reverse camera installation.

As long sitting position visibility minimum eye movement needed , steering wheel can easily full turn left or right without awkward , technically is a safer vehicle than fully safety equipped vehicle, if you don't feel comfort no matter how good the vehicle safety provided is a junk for you.
