Hi, there.

Did anyone of you bought the Air Asia package to HK?

I dun understand what they meant by "Flights and Fuel surcharges are subject to regulatory approval".

Does it mean we have to pay those surcharges upon departing HK airport?

Also, my package includes free one way airport transfer. Whom shall I liaise with, like time and where to meet?

I'll be staying at Stanford Hotel in Kowloon. Any comments?

Any itineraries to share?

Hope someone can enlighten me.

Thanks!

Hi, Terry.

The price I paid for the air ticket (2 person) is RM880 for the month of Aug. Wanted to choose Sept at first but afraid the summer sales over already. Where do you plan to stay?

Wow which hotel you booked?

If you think you won't take a lot of MTR to travel around on the first 3 days, then just buy the normal one la...

I'll be staying in Stanford hotel, Mongkok. I took the Air Asia package.
I was in quite hurry to book that time without doing much research.
After I've booked, only I saw your list of budget hotels on the first page.
A bit regret but can't do anything about it now. sad.gif

Thanks for your help in providing lots of info abt HK in this thread. It's really really helpful esp to ppl going to HK for the first time. I only read till page 20 as of now.

As for the Tourist Octopus card, I can only know whether to buy it or not after I plan my itinerary and list down what are the fare for each destination. Moreover, I'll be taking the airport express in Tsing Yi, so it might not worth it if I take the Tourist Octopus cause that's the nearest station to airport.

I do not know what are the alternatives to go to the airport other than airport express.
Perhaps I have to check with the hotel on how much they charge for the airport transfer. The hotel only provide one-way free transfer.

If the difference is not much, then I dun wan to take the hassle to take the airport express esp carrying a few luggages.
Cause based on the MTR map, I have to interchange quite a number of stations,
May I know from Mongkok, the only route to connect to the airport express is as follow?

Mong Kok -> Tsing Yi (interchange at Lai King) (19 mins) - Fare: HKD 6.60

Tsing Yi -> take Airport Express to Airport - Fare: HKD 45

I'm planning to drop by Tsing Yi station on the way to Tung Chung, to check out how to take airport express and also shop at the Maritime Square. Can you pls. tell me whether I can take pictures of the Tsing Ma bridge at the Maritime Square?

Also, may I know whether the shopping centres in Central, Causeway Bay and Admiralty are within walking distance? Or I have to take MRT every stop?

And, any recommendations for delicious and "not too expensive" food in Mongkok?

Hi, Northasian.

I hope you can help me with the following queries:

1) May I know exactly how to go to The Peak tram station from the Central MTR? I heard that it's not advisable to walk from the MTR to the tram station coz it's easy to get lost.
The problem is I dunno where to get the bus to The Peak tram station from the MTR.

2) Also, can I know how do I get to the Mid-Level Escalators from the Central MTR? How do I get to Wellington Street from the escalator?

3) I heard that the bus stop for A21 airport bus to Stanford Hotel is at the 8th station, which is Sino Centre. May I know where is the bus stop to catch the A21 bus from Stanford Hotel in Mongkok to the airport? How regular is the bus? Coz I dun wanna miss my flight.

4) Can you pls. give me the location / direction to Hui Lau Shan & Honeymoon Dessert in the following location from nearest MTR:
a) Mongkok
b) Tsim Sha Tsui
c) Central

5) May I know whether Chao Inn in Peking One is worth going? Coz my fren recommended it to me. Is it expensive?

6) Is City Gate mall in Tung Chung worth going? Coz I dun have time to go after Disneyland, and I plan to make it in another day. The prob is Tung Chung is quite far from Mongkok, so I dun wanna waste my time going there if it's not really cheap after all.

I'll be going to HK for 4D and 3N only.....time is really limited for me...so I really have to plan my itinerary carefully. icon_question.gif

Hi, zoakies.

I've read your blog abt your HK trip. Can't wait to read about your 2nd and 3rd day. BTW, it's very irresponsible for the agent to not pick-u up, as stated free one-way transfer in the package. You should have complaint to Air Asia on this matter. So, did you take the A21 bus again when coming back that time? Because until now, I do not know excactly where to board the A21 bus from Stanford Hotel. rclxub.gif

Hi, zoakies.

I found out that we have to pay HKD120 for HK departure tax and HKD33 for security charge. Usually the tax is included in the airline ticket price, but I'm not sure whether Air Asia includes them. Can you pls. enlighten me? Because I plan to use up all my HK dollar in HK itself.

Also, when taking bus A21 from the airport, may I know which station to stop nearest to Stanford Hotel? Does the sign inside the bus show Stanford?

Added on June 27, 2008, 5:07 pmHi, Northasian.

May I know if I buy handphone from HK, can I use it straightaway with my Maxis simcard?

Where in HK can I buy reliable handphones? I heard from my fren there's a street selling only handphones.

Thanks for the reply, northasian and vpire.

Actually, I'm planning to buy the 3G iPhone in HK coz it's not going to release in M'sia.

But I do not know whether I have to sign up with the HK mobile service provider or not.

I couldn't find info on Apple stores in HK.

Any ideas where is the location?

I just talked to my aunt regarding the iphone. She said the iphone will be released in the US on July 1st. HK will be on July 11th. Was thinking to ask my aunt to buy for me since she's coming back to M'sia next 2 weeks. But then, you have to sign up 2 years contract with AT&T for 2 years in order to get the USD199 price....otherwise, if we dun activate the AT&T service we have to be fined USD250. So, the phone price USD199 + fine USD250 + tax 8.9% = not sure whether it's worth it anymore...summore there's no guarantee we can use it in M'sia. Assuming can crack the code also, dunno whether the Internet and GPS is working... unsure.gif

Hi, northasian.

I'm staying in Stanford Hotel. Can you pls. tell me which station is nearer if I were to take A21 bus to the airport?

1) Bus Stop location: 639 Nathan Road outside Grand Tower
- before Nelson street
- outside Grand Tower Shopping Centre
- near Mongkok station exit E1

2) Bus Stop location: 587- 589 Nathan Road before Changsha Street
- near Chong Hing Square
- near Changsha Street

I heard that we can use the Octopus card in A21 bus. We need to swipe two times, right? Once upon boarding, another time is when exiting. May I know the Octopus machine is it at the exit door of the bus?

For the location of alighting but-stop for Stanford Hotel, I think Zoakies will know better than I do. Frankly I tried to search from online map, but I found both bus-stops are not close to Stanford Hotel.

You just need to tap your Octopus card once on the machine when you board the bus. The machine is right beside the driver. When the charging process is successful, you can heard the a beep sound, and on the screen will show the amount deducted & the remaining value in your Octopus Card.
*
Wow..the machine is so smart..it can detect where we get down if we just swipe once? hmm.gif All the while, I thought the Octopus is similar to EZlink card in Singapore.

I read somewhere that Octopus can be used on Peak tram too.. Can we use it to enter Sky Terrace too?

As I know besides MTR, ferry and bus, Octopus card can be used in 7-eleven, watsons, bakery shop, vending machine....It's really cool!

I really envy ppl in HK...how I wish Malaysia is like dat... sweat.gif

I just changed my money to HKD. The money changer left only big notes, he gave me all HKD1,000 notes.
May I know whether HKD1,000 note is widely accepted in all places?

I dunno whether they allow us to pay HKD1,000 note if we were to make small purchases, because to me that amount is a lot! blink.gif
